  • The next exercise in our Chair Series is a simple seated drill to help free up your T-spine spine. This drill is also great to help teach you how to disassociate your thoracic spine from your hips, so even if you don’t have any issues with your lower body, this is a good exercise to do. In a nice tall sitting position, holding a short stick (4-5ft)across your chest, plant your feet firmly onto the ground and begin your rotations. Make sure the movement is coming from your spine and not your hips, don’t let your hips and bottom shift around. To progress this exercise you can exert more force into the stick, strengthening your thoracic rotation. You can also pull yourself into rotation rather than pushing, which will activate the posterior oblique sling. To work on cervical rotation, hold your head in place looking straight ahead as you rotate. If you’re affected by limited mobility or recovering from an injury, grab some sticks and give this drill a try!
