  • In this video you can join me for a full production session of a new Ambient track from start to finish. I begin with an empty Ableton project and create new sounds and arrange the track. The idea is to show the full workflow, with all detours and mistakes that somehow lead to the result. If you are looking for a quick tip or shortcut to spice up your production this is the wrong video to watch. :)
    Tools used in this video:
    Ableton Live
    Roland JV-1080 / XV-5080
    Quarterone Guitar Reveries
    Arturia Pigments
    Valhalla Supermassive
    U-He Colour Copy, Presswerk
    Ableton Live

    This was very valuable to me, especially to see that you can get a thick and wide pad sound without any hard panning, stereo widening (yes there was the Auto Pan) and nothing going on on the Master bus besides a compressor. Many thanks for this, it helps me to cobble together all the possibilities there are in creating ambient music.

Thanks alot for taking the time to do this and more importantly, sharing ...Quick question here for you Martin, a bit more technical. I see in your instrument list that you own the U-he Diva. For the analog emulation sound in the VST world, would you recommend it over Arturia Pigments? Which one do you prefer, for the analog synthesis? I know this is the kind of question that can be very suggestive, but since you own alot of analog synths and gear yourself & you have a solid knowledge of the synth world, I thought I could ask your input on this! :) Thanks for your time again Martin and please, keep doing those ambient sessions, they are great!

The fact you used just VST's with low overhead was great. Perhaps include the KORG Wavestate next as a midi external hardware addition to the VST mix as its COSMIC as you probably know? Hi Martin!

    Thank you so much for doing a deep dive like this from start to finish. I would love to see more production sessions like this so please keep them coming! It's so hard to find examples of mixing this style of music.
    Did you end up doing anything more with this track? I'm curious if this is something that you would deem ready for release or what else would need to be done as that's the part I typically struggle with.
    Also curious -- Do you ever concern yourself much with mono compatibility? I see that pushed hard in most other genres but have never been sure how much it applies to ambient music since it so heavily leverages the stereo field.

  • @synkrotron
    @synkrotron 3 года назад

    interesting, Martin... I just seen the part where you show using a utility for fading a part in/out rather than volume automation
    I have been doing it the other way around so I need to have a think about that, for sure
    so, instead, I use volume automation throughout a piece for either fades or even to bring stuff in and out and then if I feel I need to boost or cut the level of a track overall, I use the EQ plugin that I place on every track anyway to take care of those adustments
    I am self taught, like many, so my techniques may sometimes seem a little strange
    cheers, and thanks again,
    andy

    • @MartinStuertzer
      @MartinStuertzer  3 года назад

      I don´t think that there is a right and a wrong way to do it as long as it works and does what you need! Having the track volume free of automation makes it possible to change any volumes quickly from the mixer page (I think they call it "Session view"). It is also easier to access track volumes from Push 2 rather than opening all tracks to find the Utility.
