He was supposed to play him in the biopic in 2008/2009 he did a Sam Cooke tribute at the vmas or bet awards and was supposed to be casted. This was around the time he had doublemint and Got Milk sponsoring him.

R&B didn't start when R. Kelly was new. You have Luther Vandross, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, etc. back in the 70s and 80s. R. Kelly was one of the first r&b acts that merged his music with r&b and Hip & Hop during the early 90s along with Mary J. Blige, Bobby Brown, TLC, SWV, and Jodeci
