I've used hypnotherapy and trigger points to such great effect. Now here's a thing, we forget to enjoy the game! we spend so much time focusing on trying to get better we forget to enjoy the now and the reason we play, especially as club golfers! This is a brilliant session and it might just open some peoples eyes (and minds). I imagine Steve is a bit 'wired' it's what makes him brilliant on here. We engage and buy into his mind set... for instance "We're on" sets the scene. Imagine if he said "right, relax and lets just enjoy what happens" You dont have to say it just ..... well do it! Thanks Steve, you are so out of the box, brilliant
I don't know how many times I've heard or read the same question, from mid to high handicappers, being asked here or from playing partners, wondering why they can't take their range sessions to the course when the answer is quite simple. On the range, you're not facing any obstacles, while on the course nearly every shot is different from different conditions. You don't have rough to play from which can require different shots & different swings. How many times do you practice from bunkers rather than full shots or different lies, being up & down slopes or side slopes. Punch shots to get out of trouble? Obviously, these can't all be done on the range but are the shots you need to be able to play during a round to not waste strokes that are keeping you from shooting better scores. Working on mechanics is great for the range but that's about it, especially if you're using mats but at most public courses mats are all that's available. The best way, imo to improve is to use the course for your practice. It's not necessary to keep score every time you play & that alone will remove unnecessary mental stress from the equation so you're focusing on what you learned in a lesson rather than being concerned about the final outcome. I'm not talking about hitting more than 1 shot from the same spot but rather just as you normally play. You don't have to write down numbers to know if you're playing well & accomplishing your goal whatever it might be. I read that 1 of Tiger's coaches, might of been Hank Heney, who said that he was the worst that he's coached in taking his range work to the course so if the GOAT has the issue, don't feel bad about it being an issue for you. Also, there's the issue of the "great practice swing" being so much better than the real swing which also has a simple answer. The practice swing has no effect on your score & there's nothing in front of you to hit ,so again, there's no stress about the shot. Just seeing the ball sitting in front of you waiting to be hit changes everything when your focus is on hitting the ball rather than focusing on the swing. THAT is 1 of the biggest problems for beginners & high handicappers. We hit AT the ball rather than swing thru it because we believe that hitting is the object of the game while the exact opposite is true. This is part of the article even if it's not written. Conquering that mindset will make your game better than you could believe. Golf is a HARD SPORT & we don't need the mind overriding our physical abilities.
I suppose when your swing is good enough to play pro golf or single figure golf you can trust it but I feel old duffers like me can get a lot out of this I know my mental attitude to my performance is quite fragile to the extent I never play in competitions because I could play well once upon a time so maybe it will help re-enforce my attitude to negative thoughts while enjoying my game.
Hi Dave, Ryan and I are looking more into this and working out a plan where we can bring this to a wider audience via website videos and classes. Keep an eye on my Facebook page Steve Johnston PGA for details. Thanks for the amazing feedback 🙏🏻👏🏻👍
How many times have you heard "it's all in the mind" - fantastic Steve, this is what we *really* need 👏 more like this please 👍👍👍

Thanks Mike👏🏻👍
I am looking forward to the post shot routine segment.
I know I hyper focus on technique...but then again I'm not a scratch or pro golfer. But I do like the breathing relaxed feel.

Great advice, seen some of the top ameteurs practicing this. Looks a bit fresh in Peebles.

What great content! Thank you so much!
A very good video Steve, would be great to see a follow up to see how you benefit from it. 👍
Absolutely
Good video. You made a video a while ago where you clicked something on your bag before every shot. Much the same idea but not as in depth as this.
Great video as always Steve
As they say golf is 90% mental and the other 10% is in your head😳
I’m liking the idea. But that’s gotta be a frost delay 😂
There's something crazy about playin in those conditions,,, ya'll are animals!
HYPNOTHERAPY is that the setting on the camera? it looks painful!
