Hi. I tried utilising the ‘process’ method for the first time yesterday, in a club, match play comp. I was giving 18 shots away to my opponent, and won on the 18th. I tried to keep to the process, and it felt really good. Whilst it’s still work in progress, it feels like a really good strategy to employ. Thank you. Best wishes. Neil
I know you said in a previous video, that this would probably be your least popular Craig, but I think it is great. You talk about the issues that we all suffer from, and I believe that this series is a 'must watch', because we can all spend hours down the driving range practicing the mechanics of the game, but if our mentality isn't right, than we tense up on the course, and it's all for nothing. The mindset, is probably THE most important element of our game, and the foundation on which all else is based. Thank you Craig, I took your advice onto the course today, and it's already working for me, I FEEL I have a solid foundation on which to fall back on now, when things aren't going to plan. Normally I go into a downward spiral, which I can't shake off, but today, I brought myself back from the brink at the mid point, and had a strong, and more importantly enjoyable, back 9. That is thanks to you. Eternally grateful, Jack
Let me be the latest person to say what a great series this is! I used it today for the first time and shot easily 8 shots better than I would have. To your point: it works at any age -- I am 62 -- and any handicap level (I am a 22). The most important thing is that committing to process v. outcome helps you enjoy the game more by not getting frustrated about inevitable bad shots ... however you define them at your level. Bravo! I wish you success with your golf and youtube channel.
I was so bad mentally on the golf course.. I have started enjoying the golf more. Playing better, letting the bad shots go. committing to the shot has been a big one.. pretty much my only swing shot these days.. Visualize, focus on the target(pick it out as small as possible) feel the swing and commit!
Yoga Berra once said that 90% of all short putts don't go in😆🤔. I've watched all of your videos after playing 3 holes very badly. I kept pushing through the round as I hit some really great recovery shots for par and was convinced that I needed to get my mind game in order because it wasn't my swing. I'm practicing for the next two days before I go out on Friday. I'm confident that I'm going to play to my potential. Thank you.
Brilliant Craig. Zippered exactly what your on about. Went for a lesson and it’s the first thing the pro said. Went out and built a shed for a skytrak I ordered. Thanks very much
That is true. 😳 Gary Neville was told after being sacked by Valencia that failure is just a bruise not a tattoo. He quotes it on his Overlap podcast to guests on every episode.
Thank you so much for these videos. This is the key for me. An insight I have picked up from these videos is that you it only makes sense when you're ready to listen. I would like to mention that I have contemplated the reason I haven't improved my handicap even when other golfers have given me compliments on my game and encouragement is because I feel safe at that number. I can belittle and cajole myself and make excuses like outcome focused golfer does. I will keep you posted on how I improve over the coming months. Thanks again.
Great series just watched 1-4. Shot an 80 last week (w bogey in 18) and yesterday i shot almost 100. Lacking routine and was certainly playing outcome golf. I was tight and confused over the ball. Part of it could have been the three range sessions between the rounds (too much!!) . Also I feel like I play better with random people. My 80 was with mainly unknown people at a busy course in a Saturday morning. I knew one guy from around the course. Yesterday my 100 was with two great friends , one a good golfer and the other a better one and some other guy Chris who was very good as well.this is not the fist time I have played beneath my ability in the presence of better golfers - it’s like my competitive nature and desire to win gets the best of me. All I could think about yesterday was silly mechanics and I was all bungled up physically and mentally . Looking forward to applying my pre shot routine and process mentality to my next round. I really need to let go of expectations on the course and apply a process… c’est la vie
John you clearly understand what needs to be done. Just execute your process and routine, it shouldn't matter who you are playing with. Process, routine, target, Free committed golf swing 👍
Yesterday a complete blow-out round. This morning at practice I could hit everything with every club - spot on. So conclusion is ....I have the technique I need to get the mental game right. And then this range of videos appeared. Brilliant!! exactly what I needed and in an accessible way. Sure it wont go right from day one. Also this will require practice. But I have a handle. THANKS!!!!
Hi Gareth, thanks for the comment. Yes our technique is pretty much locked in with muscle memory, it breaks down at times of course but a positive mental attitude will bear fruit in the long term. Be patient as it takes time for the process to become automatic.
What a great series. The one comment I'd make is that confidence doesn't mean overly-aggressive bringing danger into play. You can swing with great confidence at the middle of the green or on a layup.
Thank you for this amazing series after watching this series my approach towards my game and my perspective changed massively. Thankyou sooo much now i am going to apply these principles in practice and games❤❤❤❤
Hello 1st time viewer, I came across your 3 videos on golf psychology as I was searching for answers to my game. I've been playing 40+ years and my lowest handicap was 1 but that was 20 years ago, got the yips and struggled for awhile then eventually my confidence in the rest of the game fell to pieces, so I practiced constantly and then I brought the swing golf to the course and now can't play without swing thoughts, my ego has taken a beating as I know I should do better, everything you mentioned in these videos I do, from swing thoughts to outcomes. Currently off 5.6 and my goal for next season is scratch, I'll check back on these videos to keep me on track, thanks.
Thanks for the detailed comment Padraig and so pleased you found the series helpful. The fact that you played off one shows the natural talent that was there to play good golf. You need to get out of your way with a quiet mind to set that natural talent free. If I put a beam on the ground and asked you to walk across it you would just do it easily. Now if I raised that beam 40ft in the air with no safety net, we have introduced fear of the outcome of getting across the beam safely and our movements become tighter and sporadic as we are now thinking of walking across the beam instead of just doing it. Get a routine, be confident, stick to the process focus on a target, just hit shots naturally and accept the outcome.
Hi! Thx for making these videos on the mental side of golf. I’m a decent golfer (about an 18), but I’m wildly inconsistent and I became convinced that it was all mental. I know that I know how to swing a golf club and hit the ball well, but I’ll have one day where I shoot an 82 and then shoot a 100 the next time. I’m convinced this is all because of my mental approach to the game. As soon as I saw your process vs outcome video, I knew that was me; always worried about trees, or water or this or that. My last round was all about focusing on the process and not thinking about the outcome one bit. No technical swing thoughts; nothing. I shot an 88 mostly because I couldn’t chip or putt for some reason. But my mental approach was so different, I felt at peace by truly committing to accepting the outcome of the shot. I believe that because I took that approach, I didn’t care about the result, only the process and because of that I hit a lot more good shots. I caught myself falling back to those feelings of worry, but quickly brought myself back. I suppose it takes practice to think like this all the time, like anything else. Thx again!
What a wonderful comment Danny and well done. Yes it's takes time to really bed in the mental process but it sounds like your well on your way. Be patient with it 👍
Hi Craig, another great video building on the first three. I applied the tips in the first three to my current routine and this video is a great build. In particular when you have setbacks in a round. That’s where I’ve typically let the emotions get the better of me. Last Saturday I committed I would not do that no matter what happened. The result was a Medal win with a 67. There were setbacks mid round that produced a couple of doubles from nowhere ( bad luck and bad putting:)). Stuck to the process remained confident in what I was doing and which resulted in just 2 dropped shots in last 7 holes. It works, thanks for the content👍🏻. Shaun
Hi Craig, just come across your channel, I've really enjoyed this series and your approach to the game. Now subscribed and look forward to catching up with current and future content. Best wishes.
Hi Michael, really appreciate the support and glad you enjoyed the psychology series. Trying my best not to just do what everybody else is doing in the Golf You Tube world 👍
I like your series. Isn't this a way to take away the negative emotional thougths you talked about in part 3? To focus on "positive thinking"? I personaly use thoughts like "I enjoy golfing" and "It's only a game" to take away anxiety. Keep upp the great videos. Beeing 50+ myself I realy enjoy a "mature" golf chanel. Love from Sweden
Yes 100% part 4 helps with keeping those negative thoughts at bay that were mentioned in part 3. So pleased you are enjoying the channel and thanks for your support 👍
Recently discovered your channel and subscribed. Love the series of 4 Mental Game videos along with many other parts of your content...keep it up! Great stuff.
Its right down Bob Rotellas “Golf is not a game of perfect” 👍 It’s great to watch and nice to see Rotellas theory and advice in real. I’m having a lot of issues on my short game in freeing up and just hit as I would in practise. On the practise area I can hit every possible shot without any hesitation. On the course it’s completely opposite. I get very tense, I freeze and I think of all possible outcomes if I duff this chip shot. The long game is ok but suffers from my constant fear of missing a green. Any particular advice on how to “free up” a particular area of the game besides sticking to your routine, picking a target and execute with a free cocky swing? 😵💫👍
Hi Thomas Getting tense is brought about by anxiety about the outcome of the shot. You have to try and not care about where the ball is going. Process Routine Target and just hit the ball off into the ether..
Thank you for this series. Not sure if I'm mentally capable of doing all the things you mentioned in this. Every time I go to the range and every time I go to play I'm very excited and happy and I go in somewhat confidence but that goes away after the first shot. I'm constantly in that protective state you talk about. I don't know how to get out of it. Need a better therapist obviously. I started this game very late in life at 48 years old. Seems like everyone who's good at this started when they were young. Maybe I should just give up. Don't know. Thank you though
Whenever you started playing has no bearing on being mentally better on the golf course. You goal on every shot is to simply execute your process/routine, free yourself up and commit 100% to the shot. Look at the ball and just hit it with a free mind. Takes time so be patient bedding in the process. Remember if you execute your process/routine, swung freely and committed to the shot, be happy regardless of the outcome because you did everything you could to make that a good shot. There are now 9 videos in the psychology series.
Very good Series of Video! Thanks so much. Short and you really nailing it. I’m on my way to our annual Clubchampionships and preparing with daily training on the course to sharpen my Game. Got down from 5,8 to 4,4 after plateaued 1 year. I can feel breaking the barrier of 75 regularly, but that also brings nerves into play and also lots of bad emotions and thoughts. All you said in your series I have allready implemented in my game but its seems I forgot about the importance of them. It’s absolutely necessary to focus and stick to the process. Definitely helps to cope with bad strokes and to stay calm and refocus. Even better I think it helps to squeeze out class shots, that doesn’t show up so frequently. A good Process is a good foundation to thighten and control your own game and gain confidence.
love your mental game series. put it to good effect to win my club's summer matchplay this year! just kept making good swings and didn't loose a ball in 36 holes for a 1up win canning an 8ft slider on the last. Keep up the channel, best on RUclips!
On the basis of your comment, I’ve come off many golf courses black and blues from head to toe! 😂😂 That said, good words, good video and thank you for sharing such good advice. Keep well from down under. Uuum not sure that sounds right but you know what I mean!
Thanks for the comment.. I have a close friend in Melbourne, hoping one day to get down there and shoot some content.. Been to NZ on quick business trips, amazing country
Just watched all 4 great advise thank you. Can you advise how to overcome someone getting in your head. If I am playing well and someone questions my handicap inferring it should be lower it affects me. I feel they think I am a cheat 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks Sue. Glad you enjoyed it. That's all part of staying in the process, don't let anything affect staying in the process and sticking to your routine, just stay in that moment
Loved all the 4 videos, but in this one when you finally stepped in to hit the ball you had four looks at the green. In the first video you said stick to your routine which was 2 looks and then hit the ball.
Just because I was talking and doing the video. Like I said your routine can be whatever you want as long as you can repeat it everytime You can also change your routine if you want as long as the new routine is clear in your mind and repeatable Thanks for the comment and support Karl
My putting isn't as good as my HC of 4.7. Flaming obvious why, great video I will take a look at your others as this is the 1st one I have come across.
It's all well and good to say "be confident" but you found for yourself how hard that is to do when playing with intimidating players. How do you retain confidence when you slice your tee shot OB on the first tee? Not so easy! I know you're supposed to set aside results but that gets harder and harder if you play poorly.
You have to stick to the process/routine and believe you can pull the shot off, then commit 100% to the shot. Not always easy but that's the train of thought you have to have.. If you don't believe you can do it in your mind you most probably wont
Not easy but once you activate the process and routine the circumstances of the shot shouldn't matter for any reason. Its still just you, a club in your hands and a ball to hit.
@@ScratchAt50 My point is, long putts always miss long. Putts that aren’t short or long are the ones that go in. In 100% of instances, long putts always go long.

Hi Thomas
Getting tense is brought about by anxiety about the outcome of the shot.
You have to try and not care about where the ball is going.
Process
Routine
Target
and just hit the ball off into the ether..

Keep well from down under. Uuum not sure that sounds right but you know what I mean!
Thanks for the comment..
I have a close friend in Melbourne, hoping one day to get down there and shoot some content..
Been to NZ on quick business trips, amazing country
There’s so much to see here mate and so many awesome courses. Good luck getting here… it’ll be worth it!
@@ScratchAt50 thanks Craig for getting back to me. I will 😊
Loved all the 4 videos, but in this one when you finally stepped in to hit the ball you had four looks at the green. In the first video you said stick to your routine which was 2 looks and then hit the ball.
Just because I was talking and doing the video.
Like I said your routine can be whatever you want as long as you can repeat it everytime
You can also change your routine if you want as long as the new routine is clear in your mind and repeatable
Thanks for the comment and support Karl
@@ScratchAt50 Fair enough. The videos are great. Very simple and concise. Probably the best mindset videos on RUclips. Well done.
Thanks Karl that comment means a lot..
My putting isn't as good as my HC of 4.7. Flaming obvious why, great video I will take a look at your others as this is the 1st one I have come across.
Thanks for the comment Mark.. Drive for show and putt for dough right 👍👍👍
Sir ap ko urdu q ni ayati
It's all well and good to say "be confident" but you found for yourself how hard that is to do when playing with intimidating players. How do you retain confidence when you slice your tee shot OB on the first tee? Not so easy! I know you're supposed to set aside results but that gets harder and harder if you play poorly.
You have to stick to the process/routine and believe you can pull the shot off, then commit 100% to the shot.
Not always easy but that's the train of thought you have to have..
If you don't believe you can do it in your mind you most probably wont
Great video! But, to be honest, I got a little motion sickness while listening to you while you were walking.
Thanks for the comment and support, hopefully the wider angle with the new camera equipment will be less queezy for you..
how do we block out negative playing partners, you know one,ie this course is shxt, playing bad, it can drag down
Not easy but once you activate the process and routine the circumstances of the shot shouldn't matter for any reason. Its still just you, a club in your hands and a ball to hit.
No putts ever went in that were long either.
But it's still possible 🤔
@@ScratchAt50 My point is, long putts always miss long. Putts that aren’t short or long are the ones that go in. In 100% of instances, long putts always go long.

One of the links for sure Alison...
