Concept albums are my shit and i'm so glad you're doing this series. Supermodel by Foster the People, How to be a Human Being by Glass Animals and Danger Days by MCR are some that come to mind, Danger Days being a very plot based one and even had a short series of comic books written by Gerard Way himself that takes place following the events of the album.
Murder of the universe is essentially the other half of Nonagon. Start MoTU from the beginning. after Some context start Nonagon infinity from Mr. Beat, all the way to People vultures. this makes use of the loop back to the beginning. People vultures transitions perfectly into Reticent Raconteur and just let Motu play from there. These dudes are absolute geniuses for doing this, and most people still haven’t made these connections besides a few hardcore fans. I could see them adding even more albums into this later on
Indeed I always start Nonagon at Mr. Beat and end on PV, thanks for explaining why i was doing that. I thought it was just more pleasing to my ears.. Ill have to segue that into Reticent Raconteur.
The Balrog ends with a Trapdoor motif, and The Lord of Lightning flows almost perfectly into Cellophane. Altered Beast IV transitions into Evil Death Roll pretty well too, but I don't think it was intentional.
It's not underrated, in fact this channel has grown exponentially in 9 months and gains a couple of thousand subs after each video. This channel is getting the attention it deserves and will reach 1 million within the next 12 months, mark my words. Credit where credit is due, this channel is incredibly well done and people are noticing it.
Nonagon Infinity was the album that finally got me into King Gizz after years of hearing about them. I love what you said about the songs all kind of blending together. To me the tracks don't seem like separate songs, just a slight bend in the course, like the angle of in a nonagon. I've always wanted to make a vid on Nonagon Infinity (not on this channel, obvs) soooo maybe now I don't need to. Great work, as always! 😊
Dream Theater's Octavarium uses the continuous loop idea and does it pretty well, each song blends into each other and also starts a note higher than the last song
They're always in my top 3 for sure, regardless of whether or not their music is groundbreaking, there's just so much of it that's so good and diverse, it's difficult to like rock and not find something appealing in King Gizzard
Murder of the Universe is what I'd call a concept album for its use of spoken-word passages and the three distinct yet interconnected stories it tells. It's definitely something that gets better as you revisit it, and if you have the time to devote to each story.
this video introduced me to these guys and i just gotta say thank you cause everything i've heard so far has been incredible. keep up the good work man
Wow I’m definitely giving this a listen! It seems like you put a lot of time into these videos like they do with music. It really shows and I can’t wait for the next video
The amazing thing about king gizzard is that you just can't stop listening to them. You delve in tryong to figure out the sounds and then it just lures you in. It's just like watching a movie or reading a thriller novel trying to figure out what's gonna happen next. They're phenomenal !!
Love your channel, I especially liked the video "Intro to the Gizz guy's" because it made me get into their music. It would be awesome if you did more videos like that one, introducing us to new music, and which album/song should we listen first. Greeting from Argentina!
I had never heard of these guys before watching this video, and I've found myself listening to nothing but King Gizzard since then. Thank you for these videos and what a great channel!
thank you so much for giving king gizzard more recognition. i’ve been listening to them for about two years now and this is the first time i’ve seen popular videos about them besides theneedledrop’s reviews. thank you for this.
I watched your first gizz video when you didn’t have any other videos and it impressed me a lot. I didn’t think someone’s first video could be that good. Your videos are very professional and I love the content. Thank you.
That's one of favourites too! My partner and I were playing knock off jenga (called tumbling tower) I had my phone on shuffle and crumbling castle came on as I pulled at a block u should've stayed away from. Jenga or tumbling tower will be forever called crumbling castle to me
Polygondwanaland and Nonagon Infinity are true masterpieces imo. Love their music and their approach to producing and releasing music. KGATLW is like no other band out there. Great Video dude, you've got a great narration voice! And btw Poly is also lyrically connected to MOTU :D
I heard their song "evil death roll" on gt sport and loved it,afte checking out the album on ps4 i realized what they were going for(the ps4 notifies you when a new song plays, and yoy realise they perfectly transition one to the other) and it instantly became one of my favourite albums. Once i found out it loops back making it an infinite song, that was just tbe icing on the cake.
i saw gizz live back in june @ the brooklyn steel and it was honestly one of the greatest experiences of my life. I'm so glad people are starting to talk about gizz, because they really are doing something prolific.
Nonagon Infinity is one of the few albums that I can say are a solid 10. It's everything an album wishes it could be, it holds your attention from when you press play all the way to when the album restarts, and the momentum just never stops. It's an intricately crafted masterpiece, and possibly one of the finest albums ever made, period.
One of my favorite albums ever, Colours by Between the Buried and Me, does the exact same thing with it's tracks. You don't really know when one ends and one begins, because they transition so cleanly between each other. That concept made me love the album. Of course I loved it before, but just the idea of a band making an entire album just one long ass song was something seriously inspiring to me. And Colours isn't the only album of theirs that does this. I've heard of King Gizzard, and have been looking to get into their stuff, so hopefully Nonagon is a good introduction, because that's what I'm starting with.
Yess fantastic video, this is one of my favorite album's almost purely for its concept alone? I would love it if you would cover The Mars Volta or Car Seat Headrest on this channel, both are incredibly good bands!
If you're looking for concept stuff, Coheed and Cambria made a world and wrote comics on their songs. They're still making music but their concept stuff has been going on for a while. You could probably make a few videos on them and i'd be interested to see what you think about them.
I first heard bits of this album playing on the radio, and my first thought was that it sounded like if the Daleks from Doctor Who learned how to make human music. Phenomenal.
I was going back to watch your first King Gizzard video, and I was like “hmm it’s been a while since I looked at his channel, I wonder if he’s put anything new out since I last checked” Boom. New King Gizzard video not even a day old. Glad I decided to check
I've never heard anyone make this comparison, but this album reminds me a lot of Van Der Graaf Generator, the dark vibes, the sci-fi, the organ, I wonder if they were an influence
How about any of the Mountain Goats concept albums like Sunset Tree or Beat The Champ? Maybe the Thermals The Body, The Blood, The Machine? Maybe one of the Cursive albums, like Happy Hollow or Domestica? Concept albums fucking rock!
"drew inspiration from Frank Herbert's Dune series" I knew it, for ages many of KGLW's fans have been either telling me thats its not about anything and not to think about it, or that its some deep (read: extremely shallow) analogy for getting high or some shit. But I was sure that there was some strong sci fi influence (MoTU is extremely blatant about this, idk how people miss it).
Love the video! But I find it odd that you didn't mention that it's specifically nine songs that loop infinitely. Which is why it's a *Nonagon* Infinity.
Are there any other modern day concept albums that need more attention? Let me know in the comments below!

The Weather by Pond
King Gizzard is probably one of the funnest bands out there right now
"funnest" is not a word
Agreed. Everyone is sleeping on them
They're like the modern Barrett-era Pink Floyd. Although Rat's Nest was a bit more like Roger Waters.
Truly I had so much fun while listening to this album
@@maxmyers9811 that's the point

Kai Alois Sick, I need to try this. What about the trap door theme that plays in the album?(I forget the exact song)
Indeed I always start Nonagon at Mr. Beat and end on PV, thanks for explaining why i was doing that. I thought it was just more pleasing to my ears.. Ill have to segue that into Reticent Raconteur.

There's a video called Murder of the Nonagon Fuzz that illustrates this pretty well
But with more talking. Too much talking if we're being honest. Like holy shit lady shut the fuck up

@@brendansoutdoors377 it’s true
You should dispute that claim
While not the only album that loops into itself (Pink Floyd’s The Wall comes to mind), Nonagon Infinity blends so smoothly throughout the record.
You can loop Dark Side of the Moon as well since the album intros and outros with the same heartbeat
You can loop the first song of Brockhampton's Saturation 1 with the last song of Saturation 3 as well
Holy shit. I just checked that. You just blew my fucking mind.
