The gates are going to look lovely when they are done, can't wait to see the finished look. I know if Carole had her way she would have the gates gold plated!!! Lots of hugs, Kathy USA 🇺🇸
They are going to look great when you get them painted. I think you should put the good spikes back in the center and leave the sides off unless you get them recast.
When you first showed the broken finials, I thought just removing them would work, but I was totally wrong. The gates look unfinished without that final piece. These are going to be spectacular when you've finished them. It was nice to see the reinforcements hard at work!
It truly is all about the front entrance That makes a clear statement 👌😁🕊💐💞 of grandeur and grace It show's how you care for your home properly" 👍💕 really
The gates will be beautiful when finished. Tedious work. However after watching past projects this will be another day at the office for you guys. Love you guys. 😊😊Deb. North Carolina
When your Grandson is older you really will be so proud your his best teacher greater than great my father used to take my son to Tiger bay all the big ships used to come in my son never wanted to leave his Granddad my father was a man well travelled at sea and a good Teacher just like you and your wife
I think the gates should be white and gold like the rail on the house. I can't wait so see what Carole chooses. It's hard work scrapping all that paint off, Good Job!
My favorite trick for removing layers of paint from hardware is to put them in a Crockpot, cover with water. Then cook on low until you see the paint coming off. Could work for the finials.
Great progress on the gates, they are going to be spectacular! Your YT channel is one of my favorites in many ways, but perhaps mostly because of listening to Carole's accent. 😊 And Bethany has the same charming accent. For Americans, we truly enjoy listening to Brits! When I pull out my Dremel multi tool, I've even started to say it like Carole ("Dremohwww...")
Hello from New Zealand! I wanted to drop a quick greeting and express my admiration, I follow your channel of the incredible work you do ALL at the chateau… its AMAZING! Well done team. Thank you for the regular updates of video, they're greatly appreciated and I enjoy watching.
Try boiling the finials in a pot of water for 15 or 20 minutes. Use an old pot you don't intend to use for food again. It breaks the bond between the paint and the metal so you can scrub it off.
Hey guys, the gates are going to beautiful when you are all finished. Adrian clearing those trees what a job that was. I can't wait to see them finished. Love from N.Y.
Wow....great job with the gates and what a blessing it is that you have that cherry picker.....how did you ever get along without it?? Maybe you could rent or borrow a stump grinder to get rid of those stumps by the gate? Your cat is so adorable!! Can't wait to see what colour Carole picks and how she wants to "embellish" them??
That was enjoyable to watch. Nice music. No ocd stress. Just moving right along. Love the Tia Cameo. Hope the daughter is going to college for Journalism. She's a natural. Thanks
Beth, you did a great job👍 Once the best way to refresh the gate was to apply 32 layers of paint as you can see, and now you had to work hard to get rid of all those colors.🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Lol, I am late to watch the videos because I am so busy staining, sanding and stripping woodwork at my own house. It seems so fun when it is you guys doing the work! Not so much when it is me! Gates will be lovely. Always a treat to spend time with Bethany!
The one stump by the gate that had volunteer shoots growing, I believe was a sycamore. I would have left one strong straight shoot to grow into a new tree. I would have trimmed off the dead parts of the stump with a chainsaw. Next I would decorated with some cement blocks around the beginning of the new tree and added some new soil. The gate is beautiful with its ornate trim. The workmanship of that period is outstanding. Adrian, anything that you touch and restore turns to gold. Oh, how I wish you and your family could continue living at the chateau. With time, the entire estate could be as it was when it was built!!! God has gifted you with the ability to restore anything back to its former glory. Katherine from Yakima,Washington,U.S.A.
Hey all!! Wow the gates are going to be spectacular! I am however going through chandelier withdrawals! Please tell me I didn’t miss it! You all are brilliant!! Hugs and best wishes from Utah!!!
Thank goodness for reinforcements. I know the gates will look awesome when they are done. Tia is a very pretty cat. I love the recent shorts you have been putting.
PG Tips I’m sure the gates will look like new once you have all finished rubbing sanding lots of work !!!! Nice to see family arrive to help . Adrian ever the brave going up on cherry picker well done . 👍👍🇬🇧
Nice job on the roof, the picker is awesome in facilitating the repairs. The gates will look wonderful when finished. I’m glad you now have help! It goe much easier now.
Great work done the gate going to be beautiful what ever colour you choose Iam sure make a great first impression when you have visitors or potential buyers you are making good choices for marketing the property and up the value as well !😀😍
All of the layers of paint and corroding iron is a huge job. Can you use paint stripping solution on some of the tough to get at bits? Nice to meet your cousin Luca!
A suggestion for the gate finials. If you have a crock pot, put the finials in the pot, fill with water, set on low for overnight. Maybe a few times to get to all the layers of paint.
for the finials, I like the gates better with out them. Also I have seen other refurbishes put hardware full of paint in a little bit of a fire and let it burn off, door handles and lock mechanisms and so on. Carol in Nova Scotia.
Great video as usual Beth! Great to see you guys tackling the gate ! Lots of work still but I’m sure you’ll rock it ! 👍🏻👍🏻. I was going to ask if you’ll take the gate to Roger for sand blasting but after thought it’s probably to heavy 🤪. Anywho see you Sunday ❤️ have a great week!
Congrats Adrian for riding that basket up there being afraid of heights. I could do it, but my wife would be curled in a ball screaming and crying if she were up there.
You could put those metal parts in boiling water and vinegar for a while. Clean off with a small wire brush and paint comes off easily. Or, boil in a slow cooker (you don't use for food) for several hours and the paint just peals off.
Sandblasting the gates is the only way to go for a lasting finish and look.
I agree. There is such a build up of rust I don't think regular sanding is going to be enough.
And then powder coating an enamel finish to complete it.
Some jobs are just worth the money.
Yeah, and if you do a lot of sanding and dont get it coated right away you'll just help the rust advance quickly.
Just about to say it lol
The gates are going to look lovely when they are done, can't wait to see the finished look. I know if Carole had her way she would have the gates gold plated!!! Lots of hugs, Kathy USA 🇺🇸
Don’t give her idea’s 😂
The door color on the chateau would compliment the wall and be an eye catching gate.
Came to say this.
Wow. This was a great episode. From a distance we couldn’t tell how bad the gates looked. A wonderful family project!! ❤
Yes it is 😊
They are going to look great when you get them painted. I think you should put the good spikes back in the center and leave the sides off unless you get them recast.
I agree completely!
When you first showed the broken finials, I thought just removing them would work, but I was totally wrong. The gates look unfinished without that final piece. These are going to be spectacular when you've finished them. It was nice to see the reinforcements hard at work!

The gates are pretty. Just the craftsmanship of them. Will look beautiful when painted.

Well crack on, then! Looking good! Thank heavens for family!

It is a beautiful gate-or was, and will be again! So great to see the group effort going!
The gates are just beautiful. Can't wait to see them repaired and repainted.
Oh yes they r very Awesome. Just need big cleaning and refreshment. And WOW👍🤩❤️🔥 STUNNING!!
My favorite trick for removing layers of paint from hardware is to put them in a Crockpot, cover with water. Then cook on low until you see the paint coming off. Could work for the finials.
They are beautiful wrought iron gates. Hard work trying to get the paint off by hand but will look gorgeous when repainted. Xx
It really is! 💪🧼 ✨

Wow, thank you for your kind message and we are so glad you enjoy the videos 😊
Good job Beth!
Tia is an adorable little sentry.
She is 😊
Great Work on the main gate, BETHANY . The CHAYEAU becomes truly nice. Congratulations.
Thank you very much!
The gates are beautiful. I would go for a dark green ( similar to the Harrods green) Pick out detail in gold. Would look very grand.
The painted gate will be such a beautiful complement to the chateau restoration. ❤
I hope so!

What a Beautiful Gate. Those top Finials could be painted Gold or Bronze to match your front door.
I think black gate, with silver or gold decorative embellishments.
It is a beautiful gate.
That is very hard work, and once it's done, it will look awesome.
I Hope so!
Oh I agree take some to Rodger he will make them look beautiful again and you can get rested for all the painting
The gates are beautiful! A lot of detail
They are!
The gates will be beautiful. Nice start. Blessings.

Love all the attention to detail! Great to have extra hands as its such a time consuming job but will be worth it!❤👍🇦🇺

Bonjour la grille 😂est magnifique
Always great to have helping hands, hope it get the list of jobs done 😅
I hope so too!
They would look great in Black with a little gold detailing, not too much.

Thank you Katherine 😊
Looking Good!
Thanks Linda 😊
If you can find an old crockpot you can simmer hardware to remove old paint layers away. Outside as there is probably led in that paint
Nice job on the gates. It will make a big difference. So nice to have family helping out 😍😘
I can only imagine how hard and dangerous it was to repair the roof on the chateaux when they did not have cherry pickers.
Hey all!! Wow the gates are going to be spectacular! I am however going through chandelier withdrawals! Please tell me I didn’t miss it! You all are brilliant!! Hugs and best wishes from Utah!!!
Still looking for the hallway chandelier
Good job guys ❤
Thank you 😊

Going to look amazing 👏
Love seeing all the progress being made on the chateau. ❤ Gorgeous gates. Lots of hard work!
It really is!
Tia is so cute...I wonder where you let her on your regulary trips to England 🤩. Lovely family 🤗
We have the best cat sitter!
@@LifeAfterLaFerté 🐱🥰
Nice to hv Bethany chatting to us. Btw I love Exeter. Gorgeous place to go to uni. My kids were there too recently.
It really is!
Awesome job - sometimes a strong power washer will help get that paint off !
Or a portable sand blaster that will take it right down to bare metal.
Looks like the columns could use a bit of a wash too.
What an amazing, but labor intensive job! These gates are going to be phenomenal when completed!
I’m really enjoying watching the progress.
Many thanks!
All of the layers of paint and corroding iron is a huge job. Can you use paint stripping solution on some of the tough to get at bits? Nice to meet your cousin Luca!
Beautiful kitty
Good thing you ve found some extra hands and more "elbow oil", the jobs will go quicker in a very cheerful atmosphere as usual. Bon courage les amis.
So true!
I can't believe I didn't notice your name Beth at the start of the last video.
Great work on the gates. Always easier when you are not working alone.
Though I should finally give myself some credit with having my name there! 😊 -Beth
Way to go Beth! Adrian makes a great team member fixing the gate bits. It will be spectacular once painted. The design is beautiful.❤
Fingers crossed!
A suggestion for the gate finials. If you have a crock pot, put the finials in the pot, fill with water, set on low for overnight. Maybe a few times to get to all the layers of paint.
More recruits!😮 I know the gate it’s gonna look fabulous when completed. Thank you.
Great job everyone

There’s no way those gates are coming off without a crane. Unfortunately it’s good old elbow grease 😂
Great job, guys 🙌🥰
Thank you 🤗
You could have someone come and sandblast the gate!♥️♥️♥️♥️😘
I would also pressure hose the stone pillars. Give them some ❤.
Congrats Adrian for riding that basket up there being afraid of heights. I could do it, but my wife would be curled in a ball screaming and crying if she were up there.
It’s not easy!
Beth you do a wonderful job with the videos ❤
Thank you so much!
You need a power washer for the gate to save your hands. Those gates will look so much better stripping it back. Can't wait for paint.
light the bbq, and put the finials on it, give them half an hour and the paint should all but vanish.
stellar work
I’m also waiting for the full recovery. All of the weeds around the gates that would be cream on the top.
Yay for #teamfamily!
Incredible job as usual.😎😎

Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
I really hope Carole blings up the gate.
Oh my. May need to sand blast the gate. 😊
Sand blasting, dark green color and finials in the center only.
Gold on the finials as well
They will look good when you are finished but what journey to get there.❤❤❤❤❤
Carole has enslaved the whole family and sits on her throne eating bonbon's watching Eastenders!!!!!!! Now that's a class act!!!
How did you know 😂
I'm hoping this is a Joke to Carole. 😮 I'm sure it is, I don't think Carole likes BonBons😊
@@boessheila50 But she does like Eastenders!!!!!!
She needs to teach me her secrets 😊
Oh come on, no-one on the planet works harder than Carole!
Way to persevere.
We had to have ours sandblasted and powder painted in the end gives a great finish - to be honest I liked the gates without the finials at rhe top !
Nice to make it a family event
Can you get more gate finials made like the ones that are still complete?
Possibly!
