He isn't the only cop out there doing this .
That ant nothing new several year they were stopping drug people some were some were not they would plant drugs on the car they take the car and money they would split the money up they finely caught up with them they had to fire several cops in louisiana
They all do it because they believe they are entitled to it and they believe they are above the law

500? Lol i wish. Stealing under 2500 atleast in Texas is a misdemeanor and we are known to be pretty harsh on the law here. This guy however stole thousands and thousands, hes just a criminal with a badge. Theres alot out there.
And given 40yrs in prison.
He was probably allowed to resign and now works somewhere else!
Everyone but the police.
Those cars have gps trackers. Dispatch and his supervisors absolutely knew about this and he probably wasn’t the only one.
How did a news channel uncover all this but his own Dept didn’t?!?!?!
Exactly. I think the chief is not surprised in the least and he's hoping nobody checked his work attendance.
Cops protect cops. People absolutely know this is going on, they just don’t care. There are no consequences.

I worked in a union shop in my twenties, no cameras back then. They used to keep a sheet of names and how how much overtime people were going to claim and have someone punch their time clock who was around at that time. It was rampant…..
there is no way this happens without 2 or more people cooperating in this. dispatch knows he was not responding to calls during his shifts and the bookkeeper knew he was scheduled for those hours
Exactly, with all the computers and other electronic devices in that cruiser there’s no way someone didn’t put two and two together. Most likely he was sharing the wealth to keep others quiet.
When I was a kid cops on TV shows were afraid of the Internal Affairs office. Being investigated by them was supposedly the worst. Now I know that's not even close to being true.
"Administrative leave" so guy gets to sit at home &get paid. Isn't that pretty much what he's accused of being guilty of?

Throw another uniform on him & send him to Afghanistan as a grunt for the next 5 years or until his debt is paid off, "NO" medals allotted for service unless they create one for cheaters!!

He wasn’t the only one. There was definitely a reason they didn’t have a better system to track their hours implemented…
A state trooper accused of claiming overtime for hours he spent at home offered an impassioned defense Thursday of his career in law enforcement, calling his recent arrest "crazy" and accusing the Louisiana State Police of applying double standards in the discipline of troopers.
The trooper, Daryl J. Thomas, who became one of the most prolific ticket writers and highest-paid public employees in the state, exhorted the Louisiana State Police Commission to grant him paid leave during his indefinite suspension, saying he has no other means of subsisting and covering his mounting legal fees.

All cops break the law
So he is a thief and a cheat ?
Fire him. Take his pension and give him a bill for the money he stole.

It would be really interesting to see if the hours submitted by his fellow officers suddenly drops as a result of this investigation. There HAVE to be more cops doing this, and anyone whose claimed hours suddenly dip (for fear of getting caught) should be investigated. Mens rea.
You know the question that runs around in my mind? How much property has he stolen from private People without justification of any kind (though there's never justification for the theft of property badger no badge) and dropped off at his house instead of reporting? I bet if there was a search of his house there'd be all kinds of electronics maybe even some firearms that aren't registered under his name. How much property has he stolen from private individuals and then taken home while on the clock?
Only a corrupt cop is afraid of being recorded while on-duty.
Next time a cop pulls you over, put your phone on selfie mode and make a video of you and the cop. You should get a decent angle with it sitting on your thigh with a slight lean towards your crotch. They fucking hate that, and you start to wonder why.....

@@joelspringman7748 Each department's (that is in question,) union contract needs to be reviewed. This may assist to provide an explanation to any inquiries regarding overtime pay. If a time sheet/card does not coincide with the contract, and there is discrepancy, then I would definitely question it too, whether it is with the police or anyone else, that is unionized, or submits time records, for that matter.
Conversely, another situation that should be questioned are companies/employers that possibly alter employee time records to cut down on payroll expenses, unbeknownst to the employee.
The superintendent sound like he doing the same but ain't been caught.
that's one reason he needs to be fired...
I'll assume you just don't know much about police positions: Superintendents don't patrol; it's a desk job. Depending on the governing authority, they typically don't make overtime like this officer anyway.
This is real news! Thank you for your service to the people. This is some seriously top notch investigative journalism..

It might not be an easy task to follow the right path
1. Paying overtime to write ticket is crazy.
2. Asking cops to work 16 hr days, to write tickets is crazy.
So proud of you guys for doing the undercover work! We need more journalist like you.
Having ten officers show up for a non-violent arrest is unacceptable enough but this is just egregious! 😠 Good job exposing these corrupt cops, 'VUE! 😃
I've noticed that, too. It is rare to see less than 4 cops show up for anything. It is a bad use of resources. There really needs to be a shake-up of all police units. Between the unnecessary unarmed shootings, the unwarranted violence, the goofing off, & the fear to confront armed criminals, it's ridiculous. Oversight, different training, better screening, less militarization, & more prosecutions of bad cops are all needed.

Why does the police department even allow the employees to file their own hours instead of a traditional time card? They can also track the cruisers with gps.

Meaning only thing someone will have to do is simply bring up the tracking device and they would know exactly where that person was. Also In my state government OT has to be approved.

I drive a truck and they have goddamn cameras watching us in the vehicle because people were napping on the job and being paid by the hour. They also track us by GPS which most police cars should have now anyway. That pig was billing 20 hrs OT a week that he didn't work. Everyone has something to say about it yet no one in america does a thing about it we just let them keep bending us over when are we going to stand against this ? When are we going to start bringing it to there front door ?
There may still be some sort of tax loophole that "protects" police, etc. from IRS issues that would otherwise cause average citizen to pay extra taxe$ for the benefit of a take home car. One of my friends who worked for a private company had a take home car,and company had to give him a "raise" that he did not see on his net paycheck, just to offset the tax on the benefit of a free ride to and from work daily. IRS position was that it is a personal, not "business" trip to get to and from work.
Effective daily supervision should have prevented the problems that these special programs invite. Essentially, these counties/parishes "hired" state troopers as contractors. The parishes want a higher level of enforcement and also want the monie$ from fines. Could somebody up the chain of command not look at the mileage sheets compared to time sheets? Did the tickets line up with the time and mileage sheets? If he drove less than 40 extra miles above a regular shift while patrolling from home ( or is it "tele-patrolling" ) would it not raise questions? Especially if it was 40 miles each way to the assigned extra parish?
