A state trooper accused of claiming overtime for hours he spent at home offered an impassioned defense Thursday of his career in law enforcement, calling his recent arrest "crazy" and accusing the Louisiana State Police of applying double standards in the discipline of troopers.
The trooper, Daryl J. Thomas, who became one of the most prolific ticket writers and highest-paid public employees in the state, exhorted the Louisiana State Police Commission to grant him paid leave during his indefinite suspension, saying he has no other means of subsisting and covering his mounting legal fees.

If a time sheet/card does not coincide with the contract, and there is discrepancy, then I would definitely question it too, whether it is with the police or anyone else, that is unionized, or submits time records, for that matter.
Conversely, another situation that should be questioned are companies/employers that possibly alter employee time records to cut down on payroll expenses, unbeknownst to the employee.

I drive a truck and they have goddamn cameras watching us in the vehicle because people were napping on the job and being paid by the hour. They also track us by GPS which most police cars should have now anyway. That pig was billing 20 hrs OT a week that he didn't work. That's about $660 extra a week...34K a year extra based on $22 an hr and $33 at OT. They must be paying him double that to make 200k a year

It shouldn’t matter if they have take home vehicles or not. These new Patrol vehicles have GPS tracking in them. So no excuses from him and his higher staff.

There may still be some sort of tax loophole that "protects" police, etc. from IRS issues that would otherwise cause average citizen to pay extra taxe$ for the benefit of a take home car. One of my friends who worked for a private company had a take home car,and company had to give him a "raise" that he did not see on his net paycheck, just to offset the tax on the benefit of a free ride to and from work daily. IRS position was that it is a personal, not "business" trip to get to and from work.

Effective daily supervision should have prevented the problems that these special programs invite. Essentially, these counties/parishes "hired" state troopers as contractors. The parishes want a higher level of enforcement and also want the monie$ from fines. Could somebody up the chain of command not look at the mileage sheets compared to time sheets? Did the tickets line up with the time and mileage sheets? If he drove less than 40 extra miles above a regular shift while patrolling from home ( or is it "tele-patrolling" ) would it not raise questions? Especially if it was 40 miles each way to the assigned extra parish?

“Administrative leave” means he’s off work but drawing full pay.

I can ensure you that dude wasn't the only person doing this. I can also assure you that the depaartment knew what was going on, because hell they were all doing too lol. The problem is they were CAUGHT!!! Someone had to show them how to do it and how its done in the first place. I bet they were told "Don't get caught because I'll act like I never knew" lol

Now, where do I fudge numbers on some papers to STEAL MONEY from my EMPLOYER? lol... The next minute I would be fired. You know what auaiao9 that's the BIGGEST different between a private sector and the GOBERMINT. lol...
