I'm just starting to build Cigar Box guitars and everything is new to me. The only thing that is familiar is the electricity of the guitars and the things related to it. Thanks for the good and educational videos. These have helped me get started really well.👍😊
So cool! Great idea to decorate the boxes. I love the matchbook neck. I originally thought they were real matchbooks! By doing it that way, you can save the matchbook forever! Nice!
Brilliant video, I've built a few CBG's but never did graphics on them, however thats all gonna change now. Thanks for taking the time to do the video, great job. Greetings from Ireland. T
This is one of the best looking CBGs that I have ever seen. If you don't mind I'll try this myself. Was thinking about cutting the slots for the frets, then gluing the matchbox and using the knife to open up the slots then installing the frets. Too much cutting makes me anxious.
Rom C that would certainly work. Get as much filing done on the frets as you can before setting them in to avoid tearing up your matchbooks. They make a fretboard protector that has a gap for the fret when filing. I’ll post a bit on one. Thanks for watching and keep your eye on Scott H Biram. He has this guitar.
@@paulmerojunkpileguitars Thanks Ken, I am from Australia and am up to cbg number 26. Thanks for tips on the modge podge. Justin from Primal Guitars in Aus.
awesome video Thanks!! have you done graphics on a fretless CBG? if so is it the same method? what would you use if you wanted that vintage ,old yellow look on your graphics? Thanks so much
The Unwanted TV Fretless would be much easier. Just end to end the matchbook decals. Aging could be done a number of ways. Playing with the contrast and hue on the computer, mixing just a tad of yellow titebond in the modpodge or even doing something like laying the graphic in your rear window deck in the car to let it fade or expose it to a smokey fire.
Just wondering if decal paper will work for more of a collage layered look over a painted box?? Great vid.. My mom used to decopage everthing.. So i learned when i was little.. but the printer idea is great...
Love your methods and the guitar too. QUESTION: Where do you find that type of cutter? I have the old fashioned type of paper cutter, but it's hard to use on something that doesn't have right angles and yours holds the paper down for the cut too, if I'm not mistaken.
Gigawatt Graphics if you have the setup it would actually be the best way. Like the stickers that work on a hydro flask would work on the lid. The matchbooks on the neck are best thin decals. What is the cost be sheet to someone who would have to order the work out. Email me let’s talk if you’re a vendor
very very detailed job very fine tuned saddle for the string and bridge .. too many fine tuned things for a cbg .. :-) in my opinion .. but i had only built basic one kind .. and i do not have the skills and the tools in order to make such great cbgs like yours .. greetings ..great job
Love your builds and videos. I'm inspired to make my own guitar. Take it from an artist... you should check out Earl Lube Paste (acrylic based) instead of Mod Podge (PVA based... i.e. wood glue) for your art installation. Earl Lube is non acidic and more flexible... much better for doing art work.
bobby buenno it’s Mod Podge. If you’re asking why not just water? That answer is durability. The edges don’t come up. If you’re asking why decals and not the matchbook? That answer is the thickness of the matchbooks necessitate the use of taller/bigger fret wire = higher action and we have enough problems with that on these cbgs without adding to the problem.

Wow. A friend just asked me to make a CBG for her husband with Stevie Ray Vaughan on it. This is perfect. Thank you so much!
Perfect. Thanks for watching Kp
Thank you Paul. You’ve inspired me to do something creative. So good for this old mind.
Great video! Removes the mystery on a lot of how to’s! Thanks for putting this together.
I always learn so much from your RUclipss. Thanks.

74dart man and the thickness of the original matchbooks makes for a problem unless you're using jumbo fret wire.
KP CigarBoxGuitars yep...never thought of that. You came up with a great solution! Looks cool.😎
Fantastic job, Ken. After watching this I'm now rethinking my next cbg build. Inspiring!

Beautiful guitar! Really learned a lot from this video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and putting this together.

Thanks for the video 😊
Some great tips! Thanks a lot!
Dan O'Brien thanks a lot.
Great video
Great video very helpful
Great information thank you! When you print out that nice Church Point graphic for the box, is that just on a special card or good paper?
1000 views. Thanks everybody.
Можно эти картинки в редакторе наложить на копию мензуры, с учётом ладов. Масштабировать, подобрать на свой вкус.
Thank you for the video
Could I use the Matte Mod Podge on top as well, let it dry then use an oil based polyurethane to make it look glossy?
I love the look of those bridges you use. Where do you get them?

Great video, thank you
softail springer thanks
This may have been addressed, but why use Mod Podge on the box and the water slide decal for neck? Would it be OK to use Mod Podge on all?
500 views. Thanks everybody.
Hi Ken, At the end you sprayed a coat of gloss. How do you clean up the fretts after spraying them?
Good explanations on your videos. Thanks.
Justin here you go. Couple of passes with this and you're good to go: www.ebay.com/i/130977531047?chn=ps

Could this be done with vinyl decals direct to the box/neck to avoid the paper prints and mod podge?

Are your match book covers from your collection? Or, did you find them (any of them) from an online collection? Do you “trade” graphics with others?
Obviously I’m coveting your collection!!!
Are you saving the graphics on the jump drive as a pdf, word doc, etc?
My wife is the computor tech at our house. Pretty sure she is going to do the way you did it on the video.
Just wondering if lacquer would work instead of enamel?
What type of paper do you use for the graphic on the box top?
TheSTEEBOS white heavy cardstock
Thanks. This is an awesome idea. I've just built my first two CBGs. I look forward to incorporating this into future builds.

What dimensions are this box?
Laser or ink jet printer?
Ink
Anthony Tobba I read the question as what was I using. Either would work.
