This is a pivotal episode for Tony's moral character arch. First off, Tony does get revenge against this cop. He practically gets him fired. Which is totally fucked up. This cop was doing his job to the letter of the law, and actually took it easy on Tony, considering Tony is the head of a criminal organization and identified himself. Tony is not used to people taking unwavering moral stances against him. Even the feds let him get away wit a ton of shit in order to keep him primed up for the big bust. +Bezwaar IkTeken Meh. He deserved the ticket though. I got a ticket almost two years ago. It was because I started going just before the BS light turned green. I didn't sweat it and just did the defensive driving to get it dismissed. The way I saw it, I was paying for all the worst shit I did and didn't get caught. I still speed and run BS left turn signals late at night. My only lesson was to try harder to make sure I don't get caught. As for the cop he was a prick. Later on Tony tried to be nice to him and he was total prick then too. He had that pride that he just could let go.
I always hate arrogant people trying to throw their power around, and I was impressed with this cop sticking to his morals and NOT giving favorites to Soprano. In real life, he would have had a large lawsuit against the state once he could prove he was being discriminated against.

@FortressSolitude I actually like to have the DVDs instead however the Sopranos DVDs are fucking worthless,i have a huge movie collection and there is some issues with i think Warner brothers dvds or its another one i cant remember at the moment and a lot of times they are defective straight from the factory. I bought all the seasons and season 3 had a bad disc and season 6 also,my best friends mom had passed away and she was a big fan of the show and my buddy was like "ill let you have the whole collection and you take out what you want to replace the ones that are bad and ill sell the rest, fucking same DVD of season 6 on her collection was bad just like mine, ha ha ha ha, brand new from the factory.
Dvd? I used to tape them on vhs. I made some for my Dad and he said he watched them. I lived two states away and every year gave him another set. The last set I gave him his girlfriend told me a couple days later he never watched any of them. So the whole time the show was on he just said he watched them. He still does stuff like that. My Sister gave him a new air fryer a couple of years ago and he never opened it. She gave him a coffee cup with a picture of her son and he never opened it. I gave him a new coffee maker and guess what. He never used it. He has to be one of the most complicated men I have ever known.
On the way to the Forest Hills Tennis Tournament back in the Eighties my friend was stopped on the Major Deagan Parkway for speeding. He also had a Connecticut Policemen's Benevolent Association card with his driver's license, plus a 100 $ bill folded in it. When he got his license back, the money was gone, and the N.Y. cop said: "I'll let you go for now, but you could join the N.Y. PBA, too!"
Andy Barcenes What, having a job, a home, loving family, savings? While the guy he pulled over, the guy who fucked him over, died a brutal death in front of his family, if you could even call their relationship with each other family like? I'd take the gardening and landscaping depot any day.
His death is up to interpretation. And apparently even according to his fellow officers he wasn't such a great guy either. Rabble rouser remember? All that stuff you said, every bit is assumptom

Johnny Angel There was, remember, when Tony went to buy that fountain and gave that man the $400 in cash to bring it to his house? He basically said fuck you by walking away. There’s your showdown right there
What is interesting, is that these individuals possess such a sense of entitlement that they feel they can do no wrong and should never be held accountable for their actions, while being so condescending and unsympathetic towards others. Mess with their family and all hell brakes loose, while they push narcotics and vice crimes that ruins the lives of many families. The show was good at exposing this dichotomy
No one is pointing a gun at Tony's head either and telling him to go over the speed limit. You break the law and should be held accountable for it as he was
Held accountable he was speeding a bit big deal look how open the road is. If it was serious speeding hed be in jail. In this case this character isnt the one dealing with drugs and what do you thing the boss of the mr nice police man is doing lol you think this world is all sunshine and rainbows. Imo the criminals can do w.e the fuck they want as long as thry dont endanger people around them.
tony and carmela are morally vile characters. completely representative of the modern culture of entitlement. spouting nonsense about affirmative action, arresting dope dealers, tax dollars (like tony pays tax on all his income!) hard at work... they believe they can buy their way out of trouble. the cop, however, is one of the few incorruptible characters in the series. complete counterpoint to tony's lack of responsibility.
One of my favorite scenes of season 4 ....." I had dinner with your boss' lol....and damn ..cant believe Carm (edie falco) is around 38 here ...she looks 55 !
I remember this scene clearly and I told to myself: Maybe Tony was going to therapy, but he is still a sociopath who lives in his own world and doesn't accept what an officer would say...
In the Academy many, many years ago our Instructors told us (off the record) to use discretion when writing tickets and to "choose our battles wisely". Now, after almost 40 years in Law Enforcement and related work all I have to say is; "No Shit". Pick your battles wisely or you can go from a Sergeant in the Police Force to a crossing guard almost overnight. High Powered Lawyers are worse than Gangsters. They can ruin you and end your career if the choose just over a stupid speeding ticket. I just tell my guys that they don't get paid extra for writing one extra ticket, and leave the rest unsaid...
asif3969 Yeah thats how understood it more or less. That means the police have to constantly worry every time they catch someone speeding that appears like someone who could have connections among their superiors.
From reading the comment section, I can assume that "respecting police officers" only occurs when the race of the cop and the perpetrator are reversed from this video.
Interesting fact: Charles S Dutton learned to be an actor while he was in prison. But Dutton read Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevksy and reflected on his crimes for 7 years….then he was redeemed.
If I was the cop this is what I would of said "I'm letting you off with a warning , your gotta obey the rules of the road regardless of who you are like everyone else , the rules are there for everyone , just like in "Your Thing" , have a good day sir and slow it down "
I love the are arguing into the quickly find a common enemy and team up like Bonnie and Clyde. Thick as thieves they were a true power couple. They might stab each other in the back but always had each other backs...true loyalty
You pull over expensive cars, tell the driver NOT to remove the license from the wallet, take said wallet, empty it of cash and then throw it back in their lap. Say "if I catch you speeding again, I'm taking it out of your ass instead of your wallet." and walk away. That's how a real cop would handle punks who blatantly speed and drive recklessly. Ticket? That just makes them want to rebel even more. This cop could have cleaned out Tony's wallet, went to dinner and kept his job. Instead, he took the moral high ground and ended up selling fountains.
In reality, the police officer would have considered the fact that Tony had a Police Benevolent card. I once was friends with a police officer who gave me a Fraternal Order of Police card. He said to show it if, for whatever reason, I got stopped--even though I'm a cautious driver. One day for work, I rushed to get to the office and got pulled over for speeding. I produced my license and registration and also gave the officer my FOP card. The officer said, "Dang," or something to that effect, disappointed that I had the FOP card. He then gave me all my cards back and said, "Ok, next time please drive more slowly."
This reminds me of that one time my uncle was eating an apple while driving and threw the partially eaten apple on the middle of the road; soon a cop pulled him over and my uncle said jokingly that the apple was supposed to be a house for ants or something and that it wasn't a big deal. The cop didn't say anything and kept noting down his license and registration; after a while he looked at my uncle and asked him for a building permit. It was funny as shit.

Charles S. Dutton is a good actor, should have had more roles.
Sil told Tony out of the 7 deadly sins Tony's was pride. He has a problem with authority figures
A lot of ppl do
Oh, he had plenty of wrath, lust, gluttony, and envy too.
Very observant, the sacred and the propane.
@@SSangsen Words to the wise
He would have handled this better if Silvio had been in the car instead of Carmela
Police man was right. He was only doing his job. And Tony was driving like a maniac lol.
Charles S. Dutton is an amazing actor but very underrated.
@Uhhh lmao what’s your problem? The way he said it was fine
@@rohunsaigal2576, technically, no its not correct
I liked watching Rock even though I was a kid.
He’s not underrated.
Not underrated…underappreciated
"You'd think they'd be out arresting dope dealers"
Everyone Tony knows: ...
I always hate arrogant people trying to throw their power around, and I was impressed with this cop sticking to his morals and NOT giving favorites to Soprano. In real life, he would have had a large lawsuit against the state once he could prove he was being discriminated against.
@@grundian lol fuck the mob boss. Lol
@@grundian It's foolish to take risks. he could have given him a pass and refused the bribe. However it still made the show interesting.
@@grundian , I agree. Me? I would have given Tony a warning, no ticket, especially if I knew who he was. In real life, everything is not black and white. There are gray areas as well. Common sense should dictate your actions.
@@cmjohnson61I said the same. If Tony would've just been genuinely respectful and polite instead of a cocky jerk the cop would have given him a warning. He earned this ticket. And I don't even like cops.
1:26 James Gandolfini projects some of the best trollfaces on camera!
Never in the history of television has a show been so perfectly cast. Falco, Gandofini and all the crew are absolutely spot on!

Great catch, I agree, and from now on when I drive 46 West past that spot, I’ll tell anyone in the car!
"You think they'd be out arresting dope dealers" lmfao do you know who's sitting next to you Carmela?
Does Carmella actually think she is above the law? He was right for pulling Tony over.
"Does Carmella actually think she is above the law?"
Carmella didn't get pulled over, but yes, she clearly does think that, as does Tony. He is somewhat above the law, he's a professional criminal.
He doesn't think he's above the law... HE KNOWS HE'S ABOVE THE LAW!!! HE'S A BOSS OF A CRIME FAMILY AND BASICALLY LIVES IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT WORLD FROM NORMAL PEOPLE IN EVERY WAY!!! NOTHING (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF OTHER POWERFULL MAFIOSOS MAYBE) CAN TOUCH HIM!!! I'M NOT SAYING HE CAN'T GET HURT/KILLED HE'S HUMAN TOO BUT BESIDES THAT NO REGULAR PROBLEM ON EARTH CAN HARM HIM!!!
Convoy81 dude shut the fuck up its a show..
JohnnySky Well he still got a speeding ticket rather he had to pay it or not for breaking the law. So, it that moment his criminal power or political power/connections didn’t stop him from being treated like everyone or the inconvenience.

They're massive hypocrites, she's talks about dopes dealers when she knows deep down her husband, her cousin and their associates also dabble in drug dealing. She acts hurt when she's called out for it by others, only because she's knows it true
The greatest part of this subject was later when this policeman did not give Tony the pleasure of giving money..the writer of the episode is simply a genius.
This cop later loses his job because of Tony.
STFU !!!
He never has the makings of a varsity police officer

He never lost his integrity though. Even when Tony tried to tip him at the garden center.
He didn't lose his job. He lost eligibility for overtime by being transferred to a different department. Still got screwed though.

The look Tony gives to the cop is priceless.

This is like that scene in Breaking Bad where Walt is in Heisenberg mode and thinks he can deal with the cop like all his other problems
Except Walt couldn’t handle power he’d only been Heisenberg for not even a full year at that point
love how you can relive the greatest moments of the sopranos without cleaning the dust off the dvds 📀
Dust? You're doing it wrong.
PBA, too!"
that's a honest cop
What's your point, Sharp as a Cue Ball? What?,Police are corrupt? Stop the Presses!
now this is what police officer should be, respect.
And look what happened when he messed with the wrong guy
Andy Barcenes What, having a job, a home, loving family, savings? While the guy he pulled over, the guy who fucked him over, died a brutal death in front of his family, if you could even call their relationship with each other family like? I'd take the gardening and landscaping depot any day.
His death is up to interpretation. And apparently even according to his fellow officers he wasn't such a great guy either. Rabble rouser remember? All that stuff you said, every bit is assumptom
Andy Barcenes No it's not. Tony died. Yes I do remember, but still, the former cop at least kept his life right?
No, he may not have died, They never tell us what happened www.dga.org/Craft/DGAQ/All-Articles/1502-Spring-2015/Shot-to-Remember-The-Sopranos.aspx
God Gandolfini was so sublime, and Edie Falco is his equal.... both of them the top of their fucking class.
Sorry Tony, Charles S. Dutton is playing the cop! Charles is perfect at playing incorruptible, highly principled men....
He was awesome in Alien 3.
Although as the FBI agent in Longmire, he was a bit blinded by his desire to nail Walt. He was great in that role too. If you were cheering for Walt, you hated him.

His career wasn't destroyed he just got moved to a "straight 40" position, also Tony just wanted the ticket kicked Zellman did the rest

1:41 That was the warning Tony was giving. Sometimes it's better to heed it.
Tony was in the wrong, but of course, everyone else will pay.
The show was good at exposing this dichotomy
no one is putting a gun to your head to buy illegal drugs
No one is pointing a gun at Tony's head either and telling him to go over the speed limit. You break the law and should be held accountable for it as he was
Yep but IRL he wouldnt get the ticket 95%of the time.
Are you talking about a TV show or your black ebt wife with multiple baby daddies?
I like how this was like the only black character on the show that wasn't a scumbag and he still gets nothing for his trouble
Charles S. was a beast with just this little screen time. Man of integrity and Tony was such a small man for what he did …and he knew it too.
He was pretty for doing it that’s forsure
"Stay in the car, Tony." Carmela knows shit could get real.
tony and carmela are morally vile characters. completely representative of the modern culture of entitlement. spouting nonsense about affirmative action, arresting dope dealers, tax dollars (like tony pays tax on all his income!) hard at work... they believe they can buy their way out of trouble. the cop, however, is one of the few incorruptible characters in the series. complete counterpoint to tony's lack of responsibility.

The irony of Carmela saying that you would think they’d be out arresting the real criminals lmfao
You mean that if you write a ticket to some rich guy with connections, they could get the police officer demoted or fired?
asif3969 Yeah thats how understood it more or less. That means the police have to constantly worry every time they catch someone speeding that appears like someone who could have connections among their superiors.
the cop lost his job, asif3969
There's this thing called an internal investigation.
Pick your battles. My aunt told me to do just that the last time i spoke to her

The soles of the shoes were made, and the pedal wasn't. there was nothing they could do.

Thats Charles Dutton. Loved that show "Roc" from the early 90s
I wished you would have showed the rest of this. I can't stand to watch a full episode but I love clips.
why's that?
@@friendswithbenedicts9753 I don't like it for the same reason the three stooges do great 5 minute clips but not a whole hour long movie.
That glare at 2:33....
Danger
If that's really how cops over there talk and behave , hats off . Sheer proffessionalism .
What a nice cop. You should've invited him for dinner. Given him soda and sandwich. Any kind he liked.
@@Nostalgia_Addict With my luck, if I had done that, the cop would have had me charged for bribery after the fact.
“Motherfucking fuck!” I can’t tell you how many times I say this a day.
