Freshwater Drum / Sheepshead / Gaspergoo Catch & Cook (they’re all the same fish)

We are from that area. My parents never went to the Dells in June, July, or August. Too many FIBS. They were both born in Illinois live here at least fifty years now. They are so not into tourists that we are camping out this week. Nothing but old farts to be seen everywhere. So far everyone I've seen has to be at least sixty.
It's nap time now which is good except my tent isn't dark so it's kinda hard to sleep LOL

Bummer about not finding the sturgeon. But at least you tried a sheepshead! I like it about as much as white bass, which is pretty good. Certainly not my least favorite, not even close, but bluegill, smallmouth, perch, and northern are better. Have you had a yellow bass yet?

The Dells look like such a wild place to go fishing/exploring at! If only it wasn't about 4hrs from me in MN.....

It is really cool, but the area does get a lot of fishing pressure. I live 2 hours away, so I don't fish it often.

@@tiefsa looked like wherever you and Steve the Beave went there was a boat or two in the background, so I can imagine in peak conditions it's packed.

I fish there at night. Hardly anyone there after 10 pm and the fishing is way better
