Steamboat Willie took 2 months to make and cost $4,000. 88 years later a pixel artist parodied it using characters from a game about a depressed Hikikomori and her dream friends.
One made by a studio in times when it was questioned if the new technology could make a profit, the other by an avid fan in a time when it was assured they would not. Both creations are beautiful, one, in the age formed, through the hopes and expectations of a team to their employer, to an unknown audience, the other, ages passed, through admiration, time, and dedication, to an audience hoping, but not expecting, to be acknowledged every day. Both are beloved. Both are deserving. We celebrate the latter now, though only because the old reference has held strong for such a long time. Both are beloved. Both are deserving. I think it's more agoraphobia than hikikomori Agoraphobia is an actual mental disorder where hikikomori is considered a "social phenomenon" which isn't recognized as a clinical diagnosis Considering how depressed she is from what seems to be poor mental health, agoraphobia seems more likely.

In the end though I'm not an expert on the medical disorder nor the social phenomenon and they are extremely similar to each other so I feel the argument can go both ways pretty easily.

From what I’ve heard I can gather that it’s depression the game with strange shadow guy, color mixing that is only rivaled LSD in some places, that one desert, hell, feelings of dread an anxiety, and a conveniently well placed jumping point.
It's nice to see this guy using his art style and Japanese indie game as a way to write a love letter to what is arguably the grandfather of modern animation.
This is the last/latest/current occurence of gobou actually having 5 arms monoko appear in an animation, that version of her has appeared about only 4 times includong this one.
