The men were definitely more conservative than the women in their heats, not giving too much too soon. Kishane impressed me most -- he could live up to the expectations with his opening heat; he looked relaxed, maybe resembling the sprinting styles of Powell and Bolt. He could continue the streak of Jamaica winning the Olympic men's 100m title. Kenny is a dark horse; he ran an easy 9.97 -- the same time as Fred, but more smooth. Tebogo could have definitely beaten Fred in his heat, but he clearly wanted to be as conservative as possible. Louie Hinchliffe ran a 9.98, but he looked like he had to work too hard to run that fast. I may be more surprised that Noah didn't win his heat, though; he must be caught off guard after having to work harder than he usually does to pass everyone else (except Louie). The other main contenders qualified comfortably enough -- we do need to see more from some of them in the semi-final, particularly Jacobs if he wants to retain his Olympic title, and Andre if he wants to continue his streak of medalling in every Olympic event he competes in. A promising first round overall.
4:14 De Grasse didn't have to run against Gay at the oylmpics he didn't qualify in 2016. Blake was coming back from his injury and hasn't been the same. So it was only Bolt and Gatlin and both of them were not in their prime anymore.

Kishane equalling Bolt's Olympic record is crazy 😂. It's not impossible, but let's at least see how he fares in the semi-final first. I can see the winner of the final finishing in a 9.7 time, but considering the fastest time that anyone has run since Bolt retired is 9.76 -- three Americans at that (Coleman, Bromell, Kerley) -- it would take quite something for a sub-9.7 run to happen. That said, Kishane has already run 9.77 this year. Anything can happen.

Everyone keeps talking about Kishanes 9.77 yet NO ONE says a word about Omanyala’s 9.79. So we have Jamaican Bias when it comes to the 100m because of Bolt. Second, last year Shericka went into worlds with a WL 10.65 versus Sha’Carri’s 10.72 PB but a 10.82 qualifying. All while Ta Lou was in the mix with a 10.71. The outcome of that race was Ta Lou getting her doors blown off, Shericka got second and Sha’Carri took the gold.
Noah does not give off the aura of a future 100m medallist
That makes me think: apart from Elaine Thompson-Herah at the Tokyo Olympics, when she came third in her 200m heat, I don't know the last time that the eventual winner of a sprint event didn't win their heat, excluding the reason being that they were conserving energy. That may not say much, but I'm sure Noah wanted to win the heat, and he wasn't just saving energy...

I think Bolt in 08 did not win his 200m heat, but lol, look at his race. He ran like 50m and then jogged and didn't mind at all. This race by Lyles... he was not jogging.

Marcel Jacobs left hip is messed up, when you watch the race you can see his left thigh doesn't come nearly as high as his right and ut fore-shortens his stride and cuts off his power and rythm. Not a good sign. Sad because he had the ability to run so beautifully

Kishane, Kenny, Tebogo, Fred, Oblique, Ackeem and Omanyala looked better than Noah in the heats, in my opinion. Noah will have a chance to beat Louie Hinchliffe again in his semi-final, as well as Oblique -- he'll need to beat at least one of them to guarantee a place in the final. Maybe the heats gave him a scare he may need.

After the first rounds. Kishane hands down easiest run, shut it down so early. The other that really good were Kenny and Leslie. I did not see the Oblique heat. Fred looked good. Noah did not look his best. Its only the first round, and dang! Too early and difficult to make calls. It could be possible the USA could miss the podium. It also possible for Noah to miss the podium, but another American could. Could It be possible for Jamaica and Botswana only two countries on the podium!! I think so. I could see Kishane, Letsilie, and Oblique on the podium. Its just a deep field in the 100m this year. And we shouldn't be surprised if there are some sharing of medals on the podium. We could even see Fred or Kenny win the gold. Just excited the see the finals here. Could this be the first time in Olympic history that there could be a double gold medalists, its certainly possible!!!!!!!

As for Lsyle, he MAY reach the finals. IF Hinchliffe gets the same boost as he did this morning he can beat Lysle once again. But in the end, Lysle will get in on as one of the fastest losers.
