If you own a Yamaha 40hp you may experiencing acceleration issues and this is a factory defect . To solve the issue you must replace the jets. We are moving up from a #95 main jet to a #108 main jet then we are moving up from a #38 jet to a #45 jet. The part number for the jets that you need is 676-14948-05-00 and 65W-14943-79-00 and you need 3 of each jet. Boats.net is a good place to buy these jets.

My motor was running terrible, I did this jet upgrade and now it’s smooth as can be. What an amazing fix! I also did the 3 carb sync. It’s unbelievable how well it works, thanks!
This is my girlfriends page on RUclips I used it to comment On your good video lol. Let me say I cleaned a 50 hp Yamaha four carburetors off of your video. I put it all back together and it started up with a very little bit of ether and ran like a kitten thank you man you’re awesome!!!
Did you also put the new bigger jet's or just cleaned the carburators? I have your same engine & runs like crap
Hi buddy thanks a million you saved me from buying a new engine for my boat I just bought second hand. The engine only has 1000 hrs time on it and is in really good shape but this problem was driving me crazy. But thanks to u it is done and fixed with the new jets. Thank you!!!
What an improvement! I've never been able to get my motor to idle without giving it a bit of throttle, but after doing the jets it idles amazingly! Thanks man!!
Just would like to thank you, based on your explanations I was able to completely clean the carbs on my F30A (same motor), making it working perfectly ... thanks a lot for your time making these videos
Thank you for saving our summer!! I followed your video and cleand my carburator. No more problems! Have a nice summer! Greetings from Väddö an island not far from Stockholm Sweden😀🌻
Plunger in the bowl was stuck on 2 of my carbs. Thank you. Great video
I have the exact same 40hp 2004 engine I kept in storage for 3 years. I was a fool for leaving the fuel in stupid me. This video helped me a lot to remove and clean the carbs and it runs great again. the part in 8:20 on the bottom carb was stuck and it ran like crap but it's all fine again. I do not and never have had any acceleration problem so I kept the jets original.
Hello. what is the difference between yamaha f30 and f40 carburetors? just the jet diameter? Or different diffusers? what is the diameter of the diffuser on the f40?
Hi I have the same engine, it went under. What lines do I need to make sure are free of water? I opened the float screw on the carbs, I pumped fuel through the fuel pump. Still cannot start it. Water is pumped out of the cylinder by turning it over with spark plugs removed. Can't think of anything else. there aren't any fuel injector lines right?
Hi there just wondering when i replace the rubber O rings should I grease them when I reinstall?
hey, I have the same engine but as a 30 hp F30AET. What do I have to do to make it a F40B? different carburettor?
eric thanks for the info what are the part# for the jets?
Great video, would this be the same steps for the 50hp four stroke? Thanks
How do I replace the accelerator pump belows. I have 2 that have torn
How come no cable ties on the hoses at the back joining onto the brass pieces.
Hey. I run the same engine and have had no issues in 7 years 800hours. Last month its started to play up. So I'm rejetting the carbs. It was a very fuel efficient Engine. How much does the fuel economy suffer with the bigger jets or is it minimal thanks.
I have a 2004 50 horse 4 stroke can I get a bigger jet for it also ? Mine also has 4 carbs
Sorry, all those jet numbers weren't explained clearly.
What jet numbers are original and what's the upgrade number please.
Hi!
Have you noticed any diference in motor power when swapped the jets?
Not sure if you read comments or not, but what would cause my bottom carb to leak gas while motor is running? Stuck float or needle?
Just curious. You don't give the year for your 40. I have an 02 F40TRLA. The Part numbers don't match what you give for your project. Wondering if I need to use the part numbers from the 25 horse version of that same year? Any thoughts?
Nice video!I have a yamaha 40 veol 2stroke 3 cylinder.During cleaning the carburators i saw that in the central carburator the pilot jet has different number (smaller) than the other two. Is that normaly? I appreciate every answer!
Thank you for this amazing guide- video?Do you know if a convertion from F30A (69H ) to F40B(67C) is possible? They have the same engine block (747cc) and as i can see in Yamaha Part catalog the only differences are in carbs.
F40 has jets #38 - #35 - #95 though F30 has jets #40- jet needle - # 88
Have you ever made this kind of convertion? Will changing the jets make the motor for 30Hp to 40HP?
Thank you for your time
I have a 2002 Mercury 30 ELPT 4 stroke carb which is essentially a 40 Yamaha with a restrictor plate. The carbs look almost identical as the Keihin carbs in mine. Do you think the Yamaha jet swap will work in the Merc?
I have a 2005 yamaha,f40. I looked up tbe part numbers and the stock small jet is the same as your 2006 a #38, but the main stock jet is a #88 where yours is a #95. Should I go from the #88 to the #108 like you did or should I use the #95.
My carbs call for 1.5-2.5 turns out… 2000 F100TXRY. I’ve adjusted the air/fuel mixture screws 2 turns out, but I would like to run it as rich as I can get away with. If Leave them 2.5 turns out, what side effects if any, will I see, if I run it 2.5 turns out?
hi Eric. Thanks a lot. Is the 60hp 4stroke yamaha carburetor like this?
This video is great. Thank you. Quick question. IN the video at the 8:45 minute mark you are pushing down on the element inside the carb. Mine appears to be stuck even when I take out the tiny screw. Any ideas on how to loosen that up? Thanks
Just saw this video I have a 50hp taken it to the dealer an they gave it back to me running just as u said in your video they made me buy carb kits same shit so tired of this I'm gonna try this an hope it works thanks in advance.
Eric thanks for the video... i have watch one of your clips regarding bogging down between 3000 to 4000 rpm... i have a 90 hrs power yamaha engine and its doing exactly like you mention... i check the lower spark plug its partially wet from gas... any suggestions regarding this part of my problem or is this link to the carburetor being dirty!!!but i know i will be cleaning the carburetor from what you have mention.... should I've do any jets upgrade in the process... cuz i have a pontoon boat i sure like to have a little power when i need it....
Hey mate I know it's been a while just seen your comment on this video.how did you go in fixing bottom cylinder wetness on spark plug mine is doing the same
Hello Eric. Thanks for the great video. I have taken apart by studying your cleaning video. Luckily, I had 2001 40HP which helped a lot. BTW, I have a quick question if you can answer. I took apart carburetor and found many O-Rings looks like slightly melted. I am not sure that is normal or do I need to change them? O-Rings looks like your video at 6:06. I inspected them and there are no cracks though. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
Do you have a mobile marine service? I’m in St Petersburg Fl.
What carbs are they? Mine are keinin will the jets fit
Grazie infinite grazie al tuo video ho capitò perché il mio non funzionava
Is this leaning it out???
i did everything here to the tee . and im experiencing a gas leakage everything seemed fine when i put it back together. the floats were bouncy everything worked so i put it all back togther but now shes leakin gas. seems like the jets are giving the carbs too much gas? anything you can say would help/
Same happened with me
hi, ive got a mercury 40hp 4 stroke, and i need to buy a 3 rubber bellows for plungers rods. any idea ? its leaking gasoline from :(
Eric thank you for your time in the video great job. I have a Yamaha 2007 F40TLR which had similar issues sometime ago. What year is the 40hp in your video?
I noticed your fuel pump was different than mine. I only have one outlet and yours has two. I'm asking because I'm running into a issue again and I might need to replace mine. My engine was running fine then all of sudden I heard a clunk then the motor slow the rpms down and shut off. It wouldn't start again. So this morning I bled the carbs with a fresh Auxiliary tank of gas. Now it starts for a few seconds and shuts down. I tried pumping the blub while running to see if it would help and it doesn't. I disconnected the outlet on the fuel pump and it does pulse fuel out while cranking the engine.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to pull the carbs again and verify the jet sizes. I may take your suggestion for upgrading the jets.
Great video thanks for taking the time to share it
Hi Eric,Thanks for very good video, do you have a link for the jets so i Can order my self?Best regardsBrian
Great Video it is really giving a great reference to do the work. Our outboard has the plunger cap cover torn and it leaks. By any chance do you know if that piece works as some type of seal or if that being torn would not cause it to leak?
Hi what is the part number for those jets?
This is a good video. It's nearly impossible to get good outboard service from a dealer/shop so you're left with doing it yourself. This helped me with a similar F50/4 carbs. Unfortunately these carbs need to be cleaned every several years. The adjustment meter is critical to good performance.
what are the jet sizes and will this give me a little more hp
Does this carb. have a bowl and where is it located?
does the slow jet have a hole all the way threw.
Hi Eric,
Thanks for uploading the great video.
I have Yamaha 60hp 4 stroke FT60DET outboard engine.
My motor runs fine any any rpm (usually I run at between 35K and 45K rpm.) but after 5 or 10minutes running fine at 35K rpm, it suddenly stalls and cylinders does not fire smoothly. I thought it was due to the fuel line not keeping a pressure. But then without having to re-pump the fuel, if I run it next day, it runs fine again for initial 5 to 10minutes then stalls again. It doesn’t run smoothly for few hours. Once rested few hours, it runs smoothly again for few mins only.
Replaced the spark plugs. And checked the plugs after stalling as I thought plugs might be wet but looked dry to me.
What problem would show this type of symptoms? It always stars beautifully but gets stalled after 5 or 10minutes engine run at 35K rpm.
I am thinking of replacing all fuel line and pumps to isolate the pressure problem.
Already cleaned a fuel filter (that has a water separator) located within the engine.
Really appreciate your opinion please if I should start to look at carburettor to clean up and etc. is there any trouble shooting before I go this path?
Hello from Bulgaria. Sorry for my English. I have the same engine. The problem II that the bout is too heavy. And the engine Ho only to 4700 rpm. Can i tune up the carburators and to put moje "horses". Thank you
don`t touch the carburetors.what you have to do is install a propeller with a lower pitch.the engine should be able to run at its maximum rpm range with the right pitch prop.i always use a prop that will let the engine run at it`s maximum rpm.
Hey eric edic. I'm Alex. Can you help me with my problem. After changing main jet in all 3 carbs , my Yamaha don't work correctly. I think very many fuel because my spark plugs - are black. What i need to do.
Hello did you fix the problem?
Do you recommend changing all the jets on all carbs ?
Christian Sigouin yes
Hello from Greece I change the pilot jet (38) 42 and now work I don't touch Main jet (95) you believe I must to change to 108 ? Thanks for all.

Hi am cleaning my carbs and I want to swap out the jets. On my middle carb the jet is stuck and I can't remove it. Do you have any tips for removing it.
+BELATU CADROS i would spray wd40 and let it sit and see if it will come out and if not then you need to remove the float and get a small torch and apply heat to the jet and it will come out
why you didnt clean the punzuar?
hey i was cleaning out my carbs and i have the new jets on order , but under where the 108 jets a brass tube falls out and you cleaned in there but mine dont see to come out ? any suggestions to get it out is it necessary to take out?
fjmurray25 you can go in the barrel of the carb and you will see it sticking out a bit and i usually tap it down with a screw driver and it comes out. This never gets clogged usually
Hay Eric have a 60hr 4 stroke carburetor have 4 carbs it's 1995 model does every thing come off the same
I had no power before. It was very bad. The motor would struggle to perform. After i replaced the jets the motor runs at full speeds now with no acceleration hesitation
Hi Eric, I am John. Just bought a used 40hp 1999 Yamaha two stroke just like the one you had on another video. This is my very first outboard and although I am a pretty good DIY'er, I am not at all familiar with outboards and I would like to know how I can do the throttle link adjustment and it's timing. This motor starts instantly every time but stalls when I give it some throttle and don't know where to start to correct the problem. Thanks in advance.
sounds like your carbs might be clogged (the jets). i have a diy video on cleaning the carbs. i do not have a video on adjusting the timing but i think i can make a video nextweek for that
Appreciate your quick response. I will be looking for your video on adjusting the timing on this motor. thanks Eric.
Great video, thanks for taking the time.
my motor will run but it won't stay running what do I need to do
my yamaha 40 four stroke is a 2000 model year but these jets are listed for a 2006 and newer. will they still work for my outboard?
+bill decker i honestly do not know you may want to google search it but i think they should work I'm pretty sure
Ohhhh thanks for this video Eric!I'm from Argentina and nobody here knows what happens with my Yamaha 40 , 4 stroke , 2005.
Next week a friend of my will be in Miami an he could bring me both jets for each carburetor(6).Could you please tell me the number of that two pieces for me to order it?? Got you that pieces for sale??.Thanks a lot for you time.Ivan
Hello from Greece. In Selva manta 30-40hp , which is the same as yamaha f40, I have the same problem, when I accelerate abruptly in the 1000 to 3000 rpms it goes out. do you think this is the solution ? thx a lot!!

Hi I cleaned my carbs and upgraded the jets. It starts and idles fine and at low power runs better but when I give her full beans she won't get above 4000 rpm and I am getting fuel come out somewhere. Any ideas
you have fuel comming out of the carb?
+eric edic I think I can't be sure where it is coming from but I believe it is coming from the carb
+Fantastic Fishing show your float is stuck. you need to remove the carbs and open the bowl and make sure the float is properly working
+eric edic thanks I will take a look
Mine is a two stroke and it will bog down if there is any Ethanol in the motor. Not sure how four stroke is with Ethanol.
Thanks. Your video helped me a lot!
Hi eric do you have a part number for the new jets you installed
Yuriy Linnik look in the video description
Where do I buy the rebuild kits for the 3 carbs ?
He doesent seem to answer anyone. I didn't catch all the jet sizes either
eric
if i keep main jet and change only the pilot jet from 38 to 45
is it OK ?
it might work i never tired it. i replaced both of mine the main jet and pilot jet
+eric edic
what do you think ?
+seacatsl3 I would replace both

Thanks my friend
All the best for you
Will this work on a 2001 Yamaha 40 4 stroke? If so, i am going to do this.
Joe Bartus I believe so. Go on boats.net and see if the jets are the same as my motor. I'm pretty sure they are the same
Joe Bartus you had problems with yours to? Did you fix it?
Unloosen them?
So if the o rings on the air box leak I will get air into the engine ?
How much for whole carburetor? Been looking for carburetor for my 40
How much for you’re carburetor?
550.00
Did anyone else notice he didn`t tighten up that jet screw in the first carb, before he put the bowl on??
It's a "cotter pin" Eric...
Is the same procedure for the Yamaha F80?
pretty much but dont change the jets
Great vid mate

Perfect solution, thanks a lot of!!!!
Great video. Cheers.

Hi Eric,
I have a 2002 F30AET. Your vid helps me alot No Problem at all. Now my question....can i use the same jets for the 30hp? Thx for your help
thank you for shear with world .. like it
Yamaha claims those carbs are not rebuildable. They want1600 bucks new.Your carb looks clean compared to mine.I bought a skiff from a military officer he was overseas for a few year.Ethanol sludge was worse I ever saw.I am a real mechanic cars boats trucks. After I sold my place I had very few tools.I bought a ultrasonic tank from ebay and replaced all my tools from craigslist.I sold my shops turn key.I was happy top leave the cold northeast.I use a syringe and bored out the spray nozzles soft brass. The EPA choked those carbs so bad a grain of sand can create havoc.I also added ethanol seperater and two small filters under the hood. Those carbs are a pain but they work great with a tweak. And for anyone who chooses not to run ethanol keep in mind those engines were designed based on ethanol.Waste of money non ethanol fuel. But a 20 dollar fuel water seperator is well worth adding. If the craft is going to sit open up the screws on carb side and drain the bowl. Most important buy a damn manual.I am pretty much an expert and I still rely on factory service manual.OEM repair manual.
jim masin I’ve never heard of a filter that removes ethanol, the only way I know to remove ethical is to introduce water but once the ethanol is stripped from the gasoline you lose octane. I’ve been a field mechanic for a while and I always use ethanol free because you actually lose about 3% performance with that stuff. But the biggest downside is the sludge if you forget to drain your float bowls. An ethanol filter sounds kinda like one of those fuel line magnets that magically aligns the cosmic dark energy while adding unicorn tears
It's a cotter pin, eh!
😼👍
Experimenting 🤣
I couldn't tell if he misspoke but the second time I heard it, he sounded like he was giving a hypothetical of experimenting at different rpm. Lol. But I was experimenting the same thought as you. 😄
Don’t trust this guy, he’ll promise but never delivered
Do you have to replace the jets in every card or just the first one?
Just found the answer in the comments!👍
