I am a foreigner living in Turkey. Honestly I don't understand how you manage to live here and spend only 607 USD/month. I live a simple live, do not have even a car, do not pay rent, but my expenses are rarely under 1000 USD. All my expenses on the items you mention at 13:52 are much higher except for the drinking water, since the tap water in the municipality I live is drinkable. I absolutely love turkey and I’m really considering wanting to retire there. The people are just absolutely beautiful inside and out and I just feel like it has the best of all worlds.

After 25 years living in US ( every corner of the country ) me and my wife decided to spend half of the year in Izmir ( that’s where I grew up ) my wife is originally from Michigan. I met her in Miami and we became lover and partner than traveled and worked cross US. We both an artisan and have a connection with Renaissance Festival world in US. If any of you are in Izmir or planing to move here ? U are more than welcome to ask me question about Izmir :) Izmir is considered one of the most beautiful city in Turkiye.
why only half of the year? Is it because to be considered non-resident for turkish tax purposes? If you live more than half of the year in turkey you have to pay tax on worldwide income; however, if you spend less than half a year in turkey then you only pay tax for the portion of income you earned from Turkish sources
@ I don’t make any income from Turkish sources besides they make money from me because of my spending habit lol. Half of the year because of family members getting old and I like to spend some time with them.
I lived in Turkey for 14 years but regret that I never spent any time in Izmir, just went through it on my way to other places. I guess kind of typical for “Istanbul’lus” 😅

A very nice Turkey update. I wish they stick to what they say so that people can plan their lives and not get destabilised. One more thing I can add is travel is also good within Turkey in comparison to the European countries. Within Turkey every geographical region has a different culture, additional culinary, other customs and traditions and weather, landscape etc.
Very good video. Born and raised in NYC, to have a good quality of life here you need to make 200k+ a year. With 10 times less money you can live an excellent life abroad. Can’t wait for Asia.
You're comparing THE most expensive city in the USA to a place where you can't even speak the language. To be fair, the USA has much, much less expensive places to live.
I was born in Türkiye. At age seven, I moved to Switzerland with my parents. At 24, I moved to the US and spent over ten years in San Diego, California. For the past eight years, I've been living in Latin America as a nomad until recently, when I got residency in Paraguay. Asuncion is going to be my base from now on. The last time I was in Türkiye was in 2022. I spent a few days in Izmir. In Izmir they call "simit" "gevrek" :)))

Well, one day we were walking through a random neighborhood and there was a truck and they were giving out lokma. We were invited to have some and we tried to pay but they were like no it's a gift. We said thank you but never really understood what was going on. I wish we had understood at the time.
Thankyou for a very accurate description of living in Turkiye! All true! We have also bought a place ( in Denizli ) but can only stay 3 months at a time. We're working on that, you should do a video on that! Anyway, one day we'll get up to Izmir and see what all the fuss is about, want to see that new highway anyway ;) You are so right about learning the language, it's a real jump and requires patience and effort. I've bee studying a year and can barely understand A-2 level haha! Subbed!
Wow, an excellent and concise review of living abroad in Turkiye. I have been there many times and lived in Antalya during the pandemic. 100% agree with you and can confirm that your assessment is very accurate, except we'll have to disagree regarding LOKMA, lol. Whether its the indian Jalebi, Lokma or a Krispy Kreme glazed dougnhut, I put them in the same category of 1 more step closer to Typye 2 diabetes. Thanks for taking the time to share and going to your chanel now to subscribe. Cheers

İzmir is the best city in the world and I always wondered why tha hell I moved to USA when I was 21 and now I’m trying to move back to İzmir with my whole family but house prices are now more like $250000 for that apartment that you bought 3 years ago so you made great choice
As a Turk who lived in Europe and USA I agree with this statement: Turkey is crazily expensive at the moment. If I compare with the prices in Europe almost everything is more expensive than there.
I went to Turkey for a couple of weeks, I fell in love with the place, the people and the food. I wish we had that kind of laid back life here in the U.S. I will definitely be moving to Turkey in a few years when I retire. There is no better option. You made The Right choice..!!!
I think U guys made a great choice and it is on our dream card to do exactly the same!, Visited Turkey few months back and loved the history, people, weather, culture and affordability for us from west! I know many people from west go there to do their medical procedures as is much cheaper with a very high quality that put Canada & USA into shame & envy!
The crypto market has been unfavorable for me over some months now. and I keep losing my money selling-off during dips, I'm very scared of holding right now, how do you guys still make so much....?

Thats my home town! Sadly I am in US because of education and the job market. Enjoy living there it is a beautiful city. Also make sure that our apartment or home is well built. Try to find new ones. Izmir is a major earthquake zone! Stay safe
Welcome to your new home! İzmir is a fabulous city and it was even better in the 70's and 80's. But, still gorgeous city 🏙️ to live and cheaper than Istanbul.
Headline should read: Living in Turkey: How We Spend Just £607 a Month Excluding Rent in Izmir. Your title is a bit misleading as my hopes rose but now deflated.
You have to visit Edremit, i think the best city for living and also the best part of the Turkey for the climate is Marmara region, it is neither too hot nor too cold.
Amazing for foreigners, horrible for locals. Your monthly expense is actually pretty close to the "average" salary in Turkiye (It's around 900$ but it's bs and not correct). Minimum wage is around 450$ and 40-45% of the working population working with minimum wage. Even if you graduate from the most prestigious College in Turkiye, even if you can speak 3-4 languages, there is a high chance that you will be unemployed for a long time or working with minimum wage or a closer salary to minimum wage. (17,002₺ - 21,000₺ = 450-500$ ~) The only sin we've commited was born as a Turk XD. (No hate here. Just wanted to talk about some facts and our struggle. I wish you a happy and prosperous life in Turkiye)
I have been living in Turkiye for about eight years and love it. I think you are spot on with your expenses. I live east of Alanya in a private villa house. Our water bill is around $50 a month, but we have a two acre property with trees and garden that needs watering. Our electric bill is around $50. Everything is grown in Turkiye, so fruits and veggies are cheap. Our grocery bill is about the same as you. I think we spend around $800 a month to live in Turkey, but again, our property is paid for like yours. I would like to mention that the Turkish govt is changing rules to live here. The income level requirement is higher. With the influx of Syrians, Russians, and Ukrainians the Turkish people are tired of foreigners living in Turkiye. They like the tourists, but not so much the influx of permanent residents. Hopefully this will change when the Syrians start returning home. Hopefully the Russians and Ukrainians can find peace as well. Turkish inflation is the highest I have ever seen it. The dollar does not keep up with inflation anymore now that the Turkish Central Bank started controlling the dollar exchange rate. Not sure how the dollar will leverage against the Turkish Lira in the future. Overall, Turkiye is a great place to live. I hope it stays that way.
In Germany meat cheese chocolate beer, olive oil, whole grain bread, pasta cheaper than Türkiye... Fruits and vegetables are full of poisin in Türkiye. Zero control.
This is just an observation not a criticism. The issue is one of relative wealth. You are relatively wealthy in turkey and relatively poor in the US. You move your capital to somewhere where it buys more however this pushes up prices for the locals making them even poorer relatively speaking . This is happening around the world on every level . The global economy is inflationary by nature and, sadly, this benefits the wealthy and punishes the poor. After all, where do the Turks go to find better value?

I am a Turkish living in the US for 20 years. I miss the life in Türkiye a lot. Hopefully, we can retire in Turkiye one day

Cheers
Turkey is an amazing place when you move out of the tourist areas ❤ I have office in Alanya and love to go there for longer periodes 👍
Great review, great video, a lot of good information!
I'm half way through the video and I'm starving lol
I am Turkish American and my hometown is İzmir. You guys made the best CHOICE . İzmir is the best city in the world and I always wondered why tha hell I moved to USA when I was 21 and now I’m trying to move back to İzmir with my whole family but house prices are now more like $250000 for that apartment that you bought 3 years ago so you made great choice
Looks great! My partner is from Izmir so I cant wait to visit one day or have a long break 😊
Pretty insightful,Onward on the journey.
Great review. Very helpful. Thanks
Very good info on Turkey! Thank you.
I live in the UK. I want to do some heart test (CT scan) as a precaution. What ist he name of the cheaper clinic that you had your tests done?
Any modern city hospital owned by government.

Wow that Turkish breakfast - indeed all the food there -- looks so delicious! Thanks for showing us.
Great review, thanks
This is an excellent video - concise and very informative.
Well done, wish I could.....Turkey is such a great country
As a Turk who lived in Europe and USA I agree with this statement: Turkey is crazily expensive at the moment. If I compare with the prices in Europe almost everything is more expensive than there.
Pls give examples of WHAT EXACTLY costs MORE than Europe.
I was in Berlin last week... Unbelievable how cheap priceses in German markets compare to Turkish...
I was in Istanbul for my son’s wedding this year; the country is clean, and crowded
The biggest problem is the population of the cities, especially Istanbul.
I wish you such a happy time in Izmir, and Turkey in general. I believe Ankara is also a good destination for Expat
Welcome to Türkiye. You made the right decision. Türkiye is an up and coming country
Cool, thank you for sharing! Izmir is my hometown.
I use to live in Izmir (Alsancak), $1200 a month in 2005.
I had a great time there, enjoy!
I went to Turkey for a couple of weeks, I fell in love with the place, the people and the food.
I wish we had that kind of laid back life here in the U.S.
I will definitely be moving to Turkey in a few years when I retire. There is no better option.
You made The Right choice..!!!
İzmir’s airport is very easy to get to by metro and is connected directly to all of Europe, Western Asia and North Africa.
Turkey is beautiful!!! ❤️🇹🇷
I'm from Karşıyaka, İzmir. Greetings from California.
@@mertozelmusic KSK💚♥️😎
I think U guys made a great choice and it is on our dream card to do exactly the same!, Visited Turkey few months back and loved the history, people, weather, culture and affordability for us from west!
I know many people from west go there to do their medical procedures as is much cheaper with a very high quality that put Canada & USA into shame & envy!
I will definitely visit turkey one day, nice country for sure!!
Ahh İzmir, Alsancak, Karşıyaka..💚♥️🧿🇹🇷
Very nice presentation, thanks.
The crypto market has been unfavorable for me over some months now. and I keep losing my money selling-off during dips, I'm very scared of holding right now, how do you guys still make so much....?
The same here. my portfolio has been going down the drain while I try trading,I just don't know what I do wrong..
Well...I will advise you should stop trading on your own if you keep losing and start trading with am expert because trading with an expert is the best strategy for newbie...
Very engaging right from the beginning These are tough times and frankly I appreciate how you discuss global finances in such a delicate way. Business and investment
Mr Pierre was my hope during the 'bear summer' last year. I did so many mistakes but also learned so much from it, and of course from Pierre.
the first step to successful investing is figuring out your goals and risk tolerance either on your own or with the help of a financial professional
Izmir Karsiyaka lived there for a few years after i did my military service I visit mum often ,Cheers from Australia !!
Thats my home town! Sadly I am in US because of education and the job market. Enjoy living there it is a beautiful city. Also make sure that our apartment or home is well built. Try to find new ones. Izmir is a major earthquake zone! Stay safe
Excellent overview! I love Turkiye!!
Awesome information
Thank you for this video.
Although I am frequent visitor to turkey , but your explanation of Izmir is excellent , which city you find cheaper Istanbul or Izmir ?
Istanbul is most expensive city in Turkey.
But in Anadulo is cheaper also in the north and north east as well as the south of Turkiey
Absolutely İzmir is cheaper. İstanbul is the most expensive city in Turkiye.
(17,002₺ - 21,000₺ = 450-500$ ~)
The only sin we've commited was born as a Turk XD.
(No hate here. Just wanted to talk about some facts and our struggle. I wish you a happy and prosperous life in Turkiye)
I hope things will be better for Turkiye.
@@nsaffini1975 thank you ^^
I have been living in Turkiye for about eight years and love it.
What visa are you on and is it easy to get? How did you get it?
How do you deal with the language challenge?
*Thank you for inspirational story, so nice to see you both happy in Turkiye*
Turkiye Is heaven on earth
l am 60 years old, lm from izmir but l live in fethiye.İzmir is best city in all Turkey l hope you enjoy for long time
As an intelligent person, your choice of Türkiye was very correct, my friend. The reasons you stated in the video are exactly correct.
I appreciated you saying the temperature in Celsius
My parents lived in a small city in Turkey and I can tell you that Turkey is more expensive than most countries in Europe.
I travel frequently to Europe. But sorry to disagree. That is a myth.
Good Job Man I’m happy for you
