    I stopped being into movies many years ago. Hollywood has become a stronghold of worldly sin, and more recently, a vehicle for the dismantling of all that is good in our culture. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

      Same here. Secular movies are not compatible with the committed Christian life, opposed to the mediocre one. Most of the relationships they portray are sinful. They show sex scenes, even the suggestion is bad for the imagination. Romantic comedies are nonsense, they make dating look like a game. There is no such thing in the Christian Life as dating: it is courting to be married. Best to disregard movies all together if you are a serious Christian and want to get to Heaven.

    Thanks for the video, Elizabeth. This is something I’ve been wondering about for a while. I thought that since movies are art, it would be okay to show nudity because the human body is beautiful. But it makes sense that it isn’t worth it-especially because, due to our fallen nature, we view the body with a twisted lens and get aroused.

    Great video. This is part of the reason I stopped watching Bridgerton. The scenes are so explicit I don’t think they can be distinguished from pornography. It’s very unfortunate because it is a riveting show. I just can’t justify giving attention to a show scandalizing young minds the way it does in those scenes. God bless!

    My parish was going to have a screening of the movie! “Black Robe”, which is rated R, full of sex and nudity, and violates the Diocesan Safe Environment policy. I thought maybe the pastor didn’t know because it was a parishioner who was leading the screening, so I sent him an email with parental information of everything that the movie contained.
    He responded back to me that he was not getting involved in this and would not speak to me further about the matter. I was flabbergasted. I sent my original email to the pastor as well as his response to me to the Bishop and raised my concerns. I never received a response, but the screening was quietly canceled.

    Loved this video but it got me thinking. I’m a revert and newer to modesty and love reading. My favorite genres are fantasy and mystery with a romance subplot but recently I find I’m encountering a lot more “smut” hidden in these genres and end up either skipping the sex scenes and possibly missing info for the main plot or just put the book down altogether. Genres that used to allude to characters having sex now have graphic descriptions and it’s so frustrating. Do you think this video applies the same to reading sex scenes?

    • @fr.andygutierrez5356
      @fr.andygutierrez5356 3 дня назад +1

      I would say yes, absolutely. Reading a graphic sex scene can be just as arousing as seeing it on screen, so I’ve found that skimming over those passages is the best way to go. It’s the reader’s form of a “ceiling scene”. It’s really refreshing to find authors that are committed to not including those scenes in their stories, too!

    Now what about nude photography (I mean like pregnant photoshoots or artistic photography)? Can the dignity of these people be maintained? Or does that compromise their dignity? Is there some nuance here?

    • @erric288
      @erric288 3 дня назад +4

      There's definitely room for nuance here. It depends both on the intentions of the creator of the content, as well as the viewer. Nudity in the Sistine Chapel is not meant to elicit sexual arousal, and you are not supposed to use it that way either. The nudity in popular media is intended to arouse you and temp you to sin for profit.

    Many shows on Amazon, Netflix, etc. contain nudity/sexual things more frequently in their first few episodes or first season, it would appear as something of a hook to get more people (men) watching. Why would they do that? More viewers means more money.

My husband thinks it’s fine to skip over when they come up but I’d rather not watch the movie at all since it’s still likely we see some of it as we are trying to fast forward and also I don’t want to support those types of movies or shows if they choose to have that in there.

    Thank you for the great video and your ministry. My very specific question is whether or not you have thoughts about the sex scene about making a sex scene in Love Actually (and I guess comedic sex scenes in general). Many of your thoughts and points in the video apply but I can't help but think sometimes there's a cost to making art*. I could be wrong. I rewatch that movie almost every holiday season and I want to know if I should just continue to avert my eyes or avoid watching it altogether (which would be unfortunate because it's a great movie). Thanks!
    *I guess the best way to frame it formally would be to say "it is not intrinsically evil to visually simulate sex involving full or nearly full nudity" because the scene is very graphic

    Hi there, thanks for posting this. I do want to ask, if nudity is depicted in a scene when it's not sexual and no sensitive parts are shown, could that still be inappropriate? Likewise with a sex scene, if it is not gratuitous and all important parts are covered (and even characters are wed), could that also be considered inappropriate? I really would love to hear your insight🙏 God bless

Ones off the top of my head would be Europa Europa, How Tasty Was My Little Frenchmen, or a totally non-violent, non-sexual, clean movie that takes place in a nudist camp/beach what would you think?

    For myself, I have to turn any show off as soon as it dips into this stuff. I recently had to turn off the sopranos which I was hoping I would enjoy, (was recommended by many Catholics) and it’s just so awful and immoral I couldn’t get through it. It’s to the point where I am made uncomfortable at work because people will recommend shows and I basically have to ask people if what they are recommending me to watch is softcore porn, as I’m not into that. That’s a weird conversation to have to have in a work environment.
