    I do really enjoy watching you go through the same stuff I do when building and working on amps. Nice to know I'm not alone. One thing about this Sunn and similar models is that the amp is basically a Dynaco Mark III HiFi mono block power amp (same transformers and all) with a 12ax7 and tone stack added to make it have enough gain to be a guitar amp. Earlier ones used 6550's and were rated at 60 watts. If you already said this and I missed it, I apologize. Captain Blast...

      Yeah eh? No I am not familiar with the Dynaco. I suppose I'll have to look that up.
      The more I learn about tube amps the more I learn there weren't many way to skin that cat and it seems they are all copies of copies or copies. I guess that's what happens when the tech is so simple.

    The choke will do all in it's might to weld the switch when you open it, put some 100n foil cap with a 10 ohm resistor in series across it's contacts to snub the voltage spike. I personally would just eliminate the standby completely.

      Hmm, yeah a choke right on a sw. So far I've had no welding issues, but then I pretty much jsut don't use the standby.

    So, I'm glad you said that, because I just always turn my amps on without standby, because of what you mentioned(the possibility of damage by current in rush), but before I turn my amps off, I usually always put it in stand by for 10-20 seconds, but is that weird, should I just turn them straight off?
    Also, can I just ask, if having an amp in standby, and then taking it off standby can lead to an in rush, and possible damage, why is just turning the amp on without the standby better in that sense? Like what's different about the current in rush with, or without using the standby? All I know is I just resorted to not using my standby's when powering on, just because I heard the stories about standby's not being great for some amps.

      I personally don't see a reason to standby on turn off. I guess you cool them down I bit slower ? If you want to split hairs . . .
      Inrush being a problem depends on the circuit design. The correction I made makes it a non issue since the rush is going from cap to cap. I dont' worry about inrush too much, you can't really avoid in with Solid State rectos, it's more a concern here cause it'll cause the premature death of a recto tube.
      I've prob discussed this in another vid, but one of the real harms of Standby is heat cycling. Heaters Only is no where near as hot as actual operating temperature. So if you kick on standby, even with heaters, the tube cools down, then internals contract, then standby off, the tube heats up, internals expand. You might cause your tube to become micro phonic sooner. So, I jsut kind of keep my amp on, till I'm done using it, so the tube only suffers one heat cycle.

    Just curious what post processes do you use for the s-12 microphone you should make a video of your settings or preference. Also do you live stream with the s-12 microphone?

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Месяц назад

      Hmm, no I don't live stream with it.
      Well, it needs very little EQing, rool off some lows, might have a touch of mid scoop to smooth things out, but really not much. Lots of compression tho. Like brute force. I got like 0-+6db input gain on the comp depending on the recording that day. Like +12db Output, cause I have the comp set to a -15db threshold at 30:1. Then on the main mix, a Limiter set to -3db. I may or may not have de-essing. I didn't on this video.

      @DATT do you you use a expander or other plugins to reduce or almost eliminate background noise like when the ac turns on or keyboard typing?
      I've been trying to find a microphone to use for live streaming and recording gaming videos. I've been stuck on this microphone and the senheiser mkh 416 which sounds very similar but is a suoer cardioid microphone that has excellent noise rejection on the sides and behind it and like this microphone almost needs no eq it sounds excellent out the box. I know the youtube channel game grumps uses the senheiser mkh416. Actually they've used it since 2015 and they just use a compressor on it and nothing else.

      @@jaycranmer2001 Ah, no nothing like that. The mic itself has a really quiet noise floor to begin with. As for background, it's a controlled space, mostly, and I can just edit out any disturbances. Using it the way I am, it def hears anything and everything. Which is kind of the point so I can move around without dropping out. It would not be good for live like this.
      I tried a bunch of mics for live at one point, and for what I needed I just could not beat the ol SM7B. It's close address, you gotta getup on it, and you need a strong preamp or booster. Idk what you're trying to do, mkh416 sounds like you want to the mic to be off camera and out of frame. That makes things tricky, and I've not personally tried doing things that way.

      @DATT thank you so much for responding and hopping your enjoying theu new years! I bought a re20 and have a rme ucx ii audio interface which has 75db for mic pre amps. Rme pre amps are in a class of its own with that stuff. Couldn't be happier with the results I got. Sounds really clean and has really good clarity. Don't know if it's my setup but with no eq or post processing the mic sounds better with more clarity and not as nasily if that makes sence. Sounds way better than hearing people doing mic tests with it on youtube.
      Also rme comes with the software called total mix which has dsp and built in effects like reverb compressors limiters and more and with total mix you can route your audio through multiple audio channels anywheres. You should give it a look some time. They're the most stable interface for windows. If I had one thing that I didn't like about rme it would be the fact that the cheapest one which is there entry level interface is the rme. Baby face pro which sounds almost as good as the rme ucx ii it's only about 10% behind it. But is $800.00 vs the $1400.00

      @@jaycranmer2001 Oh nice, yeah the RE20 is an excellent choice to. It a dynamic with condensor like clarity. I almost got one myself, but it didn't have as good of rejection as the SM7B. Kind of still want one. Maybe one day.

    Hello would you help us to build a DIY tube tester and tube matcher step by step? thanks

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Месяц назад

      Damn, I don't even think I know how to do that. I have a basic tube tester, and old one. I use it once in a while. They aren't able to match tubes. I'm not sure how the ones that do match tubes work.
      If I really need to match up a set, I just use and amp I can read current and bias, and I just compare tubes I have. I don't sell tubes so I have no need to cull them at a larger scale.
      So, sadly, no, I cannot help you with this.
