    I love all the colors you used to create the rust on the car. I like how it looks, and yes I was still here after all the droning on lol

    Those paints look really good. I love your painting. Original with much contrast and detsils. Wait a while, go back to it and decide if you want to touch up that roof or not. Have a terrific weekend. V.

    The painting looks really nice to me. I like the looseness and color on the left side and the way it contrasts with the lines of the car. I don’t know if it helps but when I get stuck I print out a high contrast grey scale photo and trace the lines so my brain gets used to them and that helps me get unstuck. Love your videos. 😊

    If you can, look at it on the big screen. It might give you a very different perspective. I've watched several times. I got caught up in trying to see what was bothering you-it became a quest. So putting all that out of mind, I really love this painting. The dash and floor shift bring back so many fond memories.

    I love your painting; the colour combinations are pretty! Goblin Valley is such a cool name. The paints seemed to be pretty good? I really like that red oxide colour.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I had zero problems with the paint. At the most, maybe I used more than I would have with another brand? But I can't say for sure because I rarely use paint straight from the tubes. In Mexico, we used fresh paint and it felt like we went through a lot there, too, so who knows? More experimentation is needed!

      Thanks. I shouldn't have said it that way because what I meant all along was where the glass *used* to be. Oh well, lol.

    I think the issue that you have with the roof of the car is that it’s this abstract shape next to the detail of the rest of the car where you can see the form. It’s also the closest to the viewer and should be the most detailed. You painted what you saw, and it came out beautifully. Compositionally, the only solution I could see would be to alter that part of the painting to be something that would represent more form and detail then the dented roof, either add the window or cover it with plant-life. But I like what you have. You represented the rusted roof well and I like the play of colors, but it does read as an abstract shape in a more detailed image.

    I love your painting as is. I got the 36 student grade set with the palette included on Prime day for a really good price. I got halfway through swatching, and decided to re-home the paints. My swatches looked dull and dirty after a day, and the wash water was so murky after one or two swishes that it’s clear they contain a lot of fillers. Their professional grade paints are really good, I just feel these miss the mark. But I love the palette, it’s great. Also, it’s really hard on Amazon to tell that these are Paul Rubens student grade, not professional. They have so many listings, it can be really confusing.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +1

      Yes, it's confusing, isn't it? Thank you about the painting! I'll be curious about what I'll think about it when I get home Monday night. I didn't notice dullness when I left, and my water seemed about normal, so maybe I got a good batch! But I guess we'll see!

      Yes, that's exactly why I bought it originally, but then it was so big in its case that I put it aside. It's great for this, though, all on its own!

    Yeah, you did get them!! What a steal! Funny, I just started doing swatches with washi tape too and I'm wondering why I'd never thought of it before. I just ordered a bunch of rolls for the next swatches, hehe!
    Your painting turned out beautifully, I love it! The paints look lovely, although that Prussian blue looks a little pale to me.

      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +2

    You could try using some card scraps to ‘crop’ the painting and experiment with different compositions. I think if you cover the left hand side, the rest of the painting is a more coherent unit.

    I’m so glad to see you review these. They’ve been on my radar…. Except I don’t need them 😂 I think they’d be great for painting in journals since lightfastness is not really a needed quality. The colors are pretty-they seem a wee bit flat but would be fun to use for more casual art. And shoot, even at full price they’re a great deal. I also much prefer painting from my own photos! Also love that palette dish. And oh my gosh, the conversation with your husband made me giggle-yup yup I get it.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +1

      Well, I sure enjoyed them. Yes, the swatches definitely seemed a bit flat, but the painting didn't for some reason. The husband thing - yeah. Lol.

    I ordered these yesterday. I too was disappointed to realize they were student grade. They may have some fillers, but at least every color is lightfast except for the Prussian Blue. I'm looking forward to playing with them! What's interesting is the PR254 is usually more of a fire engine red than an orangey red, at least in my experience. I think your painting turned out swell! I'm really curious about what was going on on that back panel!

      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад

    I wonder if not keeping the bright whites in the background impacts the perception of light on the car? Also perhaps that car had a tiny rear window so it's just not in frame?

  • @katarinaholik

    I have few of their colors and I find them ok.

  • @thesleeplessspook
    @thesleeplessspook 3 года назад +1

    I say if it looks like there should be glass on the back of that car, see if you can lift up the paint a bit and then go in with some gouache and put some glass there! You can matrix in, based on the passenger side of the car, what should then be visible through the glass and improvise a steering wheel, dashboard, etc..The shape of the car should dictate where the glass should be and what shape it is. That's what I would do, anyhow, but I'm a little bit nutty when it comes to how I fix things in a composition.
    TBH, it looks like the roof of that car got crunched down over where the back window would have been. Either that, or it was some kind of convertible and the cover was up but time had its way with it the same as the rest of the car.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +1

      All good points, thank you. It's still bothering me, so I definitely need to take time now that I'm home again and find my other pictures of yat car too figure out what's going on. Maybe today I'll do that. :-D

    Enjoyed your review of the Paul Reubens paints. Thank you.
    Love your car. Looking at your painting, I feel like if I touched it, my hands would get full of rust. The white spaces give it a nice effect.
    I am having trouble with the left side. For some reason that area doesn't make sense to me. The photo also didn't make sense to me. I wasn't sure what I'm seeing.. The car is very realistic but the left is more abstract. I don't know if this is helpful. Sorry.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +1

    I think the roof looks weird because what's closest to you usually has the most detail, and the further away from you, the less detail it has. And here the roof is blurry, and further plans are detailed. The roof needs to be more defined (have illusion of detail).
    Have a good day and God bless you 😊

      Definitely not what I meant, and I realized that very shortly after the video was published. What I meant, which was really clear in my *brain* but didn't come out at all from my *mouth* (LOL!), was where the glass USED TO BE. Oh, this one haunted me for days, I tell ya. Thank you for watching!
