How to turn your garage into an art studio. Watch me create a dream garage to art studio conversion. This 2021 DIY garage makeover shows you how we did a budget art studio transformation for a resin artist in their home.
You can see more of Mitra’s resin art on Instragram / wavesandleavesart

We purchased all the furniture second hand and did some beautiful furniture flips / makeovers to make them all cohesive including making custom leather handles. We then painted the bricks walls of the garage to a beautiful warm white to make the space feel larger. We made an art craft desk using some legs from an old free table and added a new worktop with storage underneath to bring it up to standing counter height.

We also added a large sliding window and door panel to bring natural light to the dark garage space as it had no windows, just a roller door. For this we had to build a small wall to encase the sliding door / window frame. We clad the external wall in colourbond and plasterboard / paint on the inside.
To showcase her beautiful resin art, we made 3 giant pegboards. These have adjustable shelves that can be moved around to any position and we made a variety of different length shelves. We also added new lighting on the ceiling to enhance the artwork and give lots of light for her worktop.
We made a drying cupboard to house her resin art with the idea being that she can set up projects on the giant trays inside the cupboard and pour in place. Then add in another shelf to pour more and close the doors so no dust settles on to the resin as they dry.

I just want to update my old rickety garage to look like the "Before" garage in this video!
But thanks for the inspiration! I originally wanted to turn mine into a man cave but coincidentally, my daughter also needs space to for her resin art!
Oh how cool. Hopefully you can share the space and both make it nice together. I’m sure she would love to learn about tools if she doesn’t already.
Just saw your makeover featured in my Sunday newsfeed. What a fantastic job! The end result is beautiful. Well done for teaching yourself from RUclips videos and having a red hot go. That’s ingenuity and being a self-starter. Great work.💜
Thank you so much lovely!
So nice to see a pouring studio! My favourite part is the sliding glass doors and window, and also the drying rack was an interesting piece. I pour acrylics and do some resin work as well so I know how important it is to have a good drying rack. Mine are completely functional and kinda ugly so I liked seeing an idea for something that looks good. Great video, thanks!
What an awesome project Nicole!! Looks fabulous 👌 😍 I LOVE what you did with the peg boards they look stunning dressed with all the resin pieces 👏👏👏👏
Thanks so much Jo!
I love this conversion ahhh! I have a double garage I wanna keep one car in and do the rest a studio. I was thinking to seal the roller door because of all the crap that comes in, but I do also want lots of daylight in there hmm, lots of thinking to do.
Thank you.
I am so very impressed!! This pandemic has made me realised that we should and need to learn how to make things ourselves again! Thank you for your video!
Thank you so much. Yes I think a lot of us have been able to slow down and enjoy being creative.
Awesome space. The drying cabinet for multiple resin pieces I think was my favourite take away, such a great idea.
Thank you! It took many weekends but I’m very proud of this one.
Hi Nicole! Thank you for this informative and EXCELLENT garage conversion to a studio video. I am a painter living in Wisconsin, USA. I live in a small 720 sf home above a 2 car garage with my husband. I want to convert 1/2 of our garage into my studio. With floor heating, need windows, and a door. What are your thoughts about replacing the old garage door with a newer door that has mostly windows? Or is it best to take out the garage door, then install the glass sliding glass door similar to your video? Your opinion about which is easiest & adds better light.
Also, I noticed you have a battery powered drill that seems quite strong! Enough to drill through cement/brick. What brand do you recommend? And if you would do a video on your preferences of power tool types/brands you'd recommend for this job. I would appreciate your thoughts on that as well. Or window installation video.
I love your Happy Dances!
This was the most helpful video for converting a garage into an artist's studio by far! -Paula
Also Mitra's work is beautiful!! 😍
Ha!! It's your Brisbane twinsie, I was just looking at Garage transformations and garage art studio's (i'm looking to buy & renovate a place with a decent garage) and ooohhhh look who just happens to have done one only a month ago.....my blonde alter ego! Looks great (of course!).
I hope you got a qualified electrician to change over the light and any other works. Could be quite costly for you otherwise.
Sure did.
@@NicoleHerrickDIY might be something to mention in your vids to not give people the wrong idea :)
Good luck in your future diys. Nice chan btw.
Thanks for the great content Nicole, would be great if in the description you could link the products you use/where you got them from etc. Paint sprayer, plywood etc.
Love it, great job! Hugs from Montana

How awesome! Terrific job on the renovation, on the video and beautiful art work!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing the creation of this studio. It’s a wonderful studio.
Thank you so much
Looks great. Just wondering, does the roller door still open and close in front of the glass?
Thank you. Yes it still functions as normal. The glass door is set back approx 50cm / 1 foot from the roller door.
Thankyou. My roller door is the old style that opens/rolls to inside the garage roof. I have my art studio set up in there but will probably have to remove the roller one day and install a sliding door in with security screens.
Yes this one is a roller door too, that’s why we set the door in 50cm so the roller door still worked.
thanks Sorry I didn’t explain properly. The entire door slides/rolls back to the inside of the garage ceiling on a track. Still visible. But you’ve got me thinking about solutions for sure.
@@corrinerapley6067 oh yes along the ceiling you mean. You could just make a gap in the new wall. We had about 1 foot above the glass door frame that was wall so there should be enough space.
Great job Nicole. Looks stunning. 👍🏽
Thanks so much
Is there a video tutorial on how to install the window/door? I need to do this to my garage
I have the footage but I haven’t had time to edit it in to a full tutorial yet. Happy to answer any questions you might have if that helps?

Can I ask, why did you not insulate the walls and floor please?
Just as there was no need as it isn’t a bedroom or living room. She needs the option to return it to a garage if required with minimal effort if they want to sell.
@@NicoleHerrickDIY I understand, I wondered because in my circumstances I would have to insulate as I work a lot with paper....thank you
Well done Nicole love your work 😊
😂 Thanks Mum.
