Hi Ida, your video is so helpful! Could you share the link to the product (or product at similar price tiers with on par quality) you used?
Hey love! Sorry for the late reply, I was putting the purchase list together. Here is a link to the products liketk.it/4zhgH
hi there..how much boxes of the peel n stick did you use?
@@IdaAlexis Hi, the link you sent doesn't show the item list. A bunch of black circles going down the page. Not sure if it’s broken, Is it possible to get the list elsewhere? Thanks!
@@Santoshi1071hey love! Thank you so much for letting me know. Just updated the link liketk.it/4zhgH
I wanted to do this to my living room last year but when I looked on RUclips the only ppl showing how to lay over carpet were using wood planking underneath. I wasn’t trying to spend that kind of money. I found you a couple weeks ago and your idea of using construction paper was genius!!!! My living room looks absolutely AMAZING!! I wish I could upload pics on here lol.
Oh my goodness this comment made my whole day!! So happy it turned out nicely for you
@@snn2913 so far none! It looks exactly the same as when I put it down. Just make sure you push them really close together when laying them down. You should hear them almost snapping together. If not they will shift a bit because it’s just very sticky glue that is connecting them.
@@snn2913 Anytime! Thanks for watching. Good luck with your project :)
I was thinking this exact thing... huge pieces of plywood on top of my carpet doesn't sound fun to deal with... I did think of like... moving blankets or carpet matting etc but that was the best I could come up with, and obviously they're not 'hard' or smooth... this is freaking genius and now i have a great idea in using some old laminate i managed to score for free :D
@@riaglitta Woo hoo! good luck on your project love! Also, some people mentioned to stagger the tiles instead of laying them side by side like I did.
Thank you for posting this !! My bf and I are moving soon and we have two naughty cats who love messing up carpets so I’m glad we found a way to cover the carpet and you are very knowledgeable thank you ❤❤❤
Thank you so much ❤️ and good luck with your project
Girl, if you don't stop! This is the simplest and best DYI I have ever seen. Thank you so much! I am tired of my dusty carpet and will be doing this! Thank you again!
Thank you so much Yes, let me know how it comes out! Also, some people recommended staggering them instead of laying it down the way I did in this video. I think thats a good idea and will also try it that way next time I do this.

Would this work over commercial carpet?
Can’t imagine this lasts long. I’d imagine it’s going to flex when you step on it and eventually lead to cracks/breaks. As much as I’d like to do this in my apartment(because I hate the carpet in here). I’d imagine I’d only be happy with doing this up until the inevitable cracking/breaking of the new floor
I would imagine one good run in that room for whatever reason i.e rushing ro get dressed and the floor would shift causing you to hurt yourself. creative ideal tho.
@@Master63ywhat about stapling the poster boards down first before applying the tiles
Orrrr get that plastic they use for wen u paint and put down staple that down but pull it very tightly over floor instead of getting all that poster board orrr use card board boxes (free)very flatly
I've had mixed results. I used cheap peel and stick vinyl from Walmart in one room and higher quality from Home Depot in the other. The home depot has cracked from foot traffic, the Walmart tolerates furniture being moved on it and has no cracks. The technique works, but thinner more flexible tile seems to be the best.
I've been thinking about getting that plastic mat stuff for office chairs that has the sharp teeth on the underside, then poster board then the wood vinyl stuff to avoid the carpet plush push down whenever you walk on it....gonna be expensive tho but I still wanna try it.
! My flat has the oldest looking FORREST GREEN carpet I’m so over it. This is definitely the hack I’ve been looking for! Thank you 😊
Thank you so much love🙏🏼💙 good luck on your project!
I just want to say thank you for this video🙌🏽. My carpet in my apartment is horrible from wear and tear over the 5+ yrs of living here and I’m so tired of shampooing it. This is a inexpensive and great way of getting a new look in my home. I will be purchasing my supplies soon and starting this project.❤️❤️ Thank u🙏🏽 Thank you ☺️
Thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot! Good luck with your project and let me know how your project comes out :)

You are genius. I was just sitting here trying to figure out how to cover my carpet in my rental since my landlord is taking a while to replace it. And you came up with an amazing idea and way of doing so. I have a one year old who plays on the floor a lot and drops food and spills as well. And this would make it so easy to clean up and remove when I decide to move out. I'm heading over to Amazon and Lowe's and checking prices on the flooring and poster boards. Thank you for this great way to transition my home.

Perfect & geniuse. I need to renovate my apartment old carpet , coming from the walls. Leasing manager claims it's new, he must ment in the past tense as when it was put in that apartment years ago.
I'm going to try the poster board with the tiles from Wish. Wish seems to have a nice asortment of light adhesive floor tiles that will brighten up my room.
I put the privacy film on kitchen window and inspection came and thought I replaced the windows and was amazed. 😄😁

ONE ADDED TIP - Thank you very much for posting the helpful video!
Just one tip to add - STAGGER THE PLANKS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Rather than laying the planks in a straight "square" or "rectangle", with all the planks ending in a straight line OR using the SAME random pattern throughout the installation (giving the final result a "stair step" or "H" pattern), randomize the layout (stagger the plank) as much as you can (unless you want a repeated pattern, of course). Staggering the planks will do three things: -- #1) Give the final structure of the installation more strength; #2) Give the final result a professional look; #3) Prevent the long straight-line seams that are formed in square or rectangle layouts from catching dirt over time, making them more noticeable. The labor itself won't be anymore difficult, it will just take a little more time in planning. There are many websites that give instructions on how to accomplish a totally randomized installation/layout. (Google "stagger vinyl plank flooring".)
love this! definitely will be redoing my flooring.

Very cool ! How do you go about cleaning it & are you worried about water damage getting in from like mopping or spills or something? I’ve seen some mention that in another video but I think it was for the bathroom, so it might be different.
Hey doll, thank you so much! Cleaning hasn't been an issue. I use a small vacuum and then stiffer jet to mop.

I absolutely love your method! I am looking for a solution to cover up carpet in my apartment for easy clean up.. are there issues with liquids going in between the edges of the individual pieces? In cases where you'd need to mop, if spills happen, animal accidents, etc.
hey! thank you so much 🙏🏼💙 I vacuum & use swiffer to clean. the wet pads get the job done better than mop for this set up. I would be careful and avoid too much liquid

Do you think this would work with a carpet that is a little bit thicker? Like do you think it would squish and move around even with poster boards underneath
Hey love, I wouldn't recommend doing it on a thick carpet because it will most likely squish. I saw another video where they added a layer of wood and then put flooring over a thick carpet.
Glad I found this. They put carpet all the way up to the front door. So there is no entry way persay to take off your shoes especially concerning for winter months.
This is Amazing! i was wandering if i can also do this in my living and dining room?

I hate my carpet. Your way of doing it its great. I'm gonna give a try soon
Thank you so much! Good luck with your project
@IdaAlexis what would happen if someone spilled water on the panels?? Would the carpet under the panel get wet too???
I’m gonna try this. Been living in my apt 8 years and I am SO DONE with the carpet. It’s old and ugly and I do not have time to carpet clean and constantly waiting for it to dry. OVER IT lol! Great idea!
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 YES! try it out and let me know how it comes out!
But how long does that last? What about where the butt joints meet? Do they not crinkle up over each other over time because of the poster underneath? I like it but I don’t see this lasting very long, or at least there would have to be maintenance done on it over time.
Thank you for sharing this. I’m wanting to do this in my office (I’m renting). My only question is if you accidentally drop or spill something that’s liquid on the vinyl, does it seep through the cracks leaking onto the carpet?
I will say that it probably wont matter honestly. Because if you didnt have the planks, then whatever gets spilled would have just fully spilled onto the bare carpet lol.
Hey love, not sure how I missed this comment! Definitely avoid spills, but even if you spilled a little its not the end of the world. Also for cleaning, vacuum & use swiffer wet pads instead of a mop
@@IdaAlexis thank you.
Thanks for doing this
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
I’m definitely trying this! But wait I have one question. I’m kinda concerned about spills. Like if I spill water on the floor, will it get under the tiles and make the carpet mold? Or am I just overthinking about being paranoid?😭
Hey love, thanks for watching🙏🏼💙Lol no its a good point. Definitely avoid spills, but even if you spilled a little its not the end of the world. Also for cleaning, vacuum & use swiffer wet pads instead of a mop

Is it holding up? I'm going to do this but I was going to use 1/4" plywood sheets, not foamcore... but if it works then idk maybe I'll do what you did.
Hey Sarah, if you have the option of adding plywood I say go for it! it’s holding up pretty good but there is some lifting. I wanted to avoid using plywood tho so it works for me :)
