    You are genius. I was just sitting here trying to figure out how to cover my carpet in my rental since my landlord is taking a while to replace it. And you came up with an amazing idea and way of doing so. I have a one year old who plays on the floor a lot and drops food and spills as well. And this would make it so easy to clean up and remove when I decide to move out. I'm heading over to Amazon and Lowe's and checking prices on the flooring and poster boards. Thank you for this great way to transition my home.

    Can’t imagine this lasts long. I’d imagine it’s going to flex when you step on it and eventually lead to cracks/breaks. As much as I’d like to do this in my apartment(because I hate the carpet in here). I’d imagine I’d only be happy with doing this up until the inevitable cracking/breaking of the new floor

      I've had mixed results. I used cheap peel and stick vinyl from Walmart in one room and higher quality from Home Depot in the other. The home depot has cracked from foot traffic, the Walmart tolerates furniture being moved on it and has no cracks. The technique works, but thinner more flexible tile seems to be the best.

      I've been thinking about getting that plastic mat stuff for office chairs that has the sharp teeth on the underside, then poster board then the wood vinyl stuff to avoid the carpet plush push down whenever you walk on it....gonna be expensive tho but I still wanna try it.

    ONE ADDED TIP - Thank you very much for posting the helpful video!
    Just one tip to add - STAGGER THE PLANKS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Rather than laying the planks in a straight "square" or "rectangle", with all the planks ending in a straight line OR using the SAME random pattern throughout the installation (giving the final result a "stair step" or "H" pattern), randomize the layout (stagger the plank) as much as you can (unless you want a repeated pattern, of course). Staggering the planks will do three things: -- #1) Give the final structure of the installation more strength; #2) Give the final result a professional look; #3) Prevent the long straight-line seams that are formed in square or rectangle layouts from catching dirt over time, making them more noticeable. The labor itself won't be anymore difficult, it will just take a little more time in planning. There are many websites that give instructions on how to accomplish a totally randomized installation/layout. (Google "stagger vinyl plank flooring".)

      @IdaAlexis  4 месяца назад +1

    • @stefanjefferson73
      @stefanjefferson73 2 года назад +5

      Do not do the project like this. Think about it. The poster board is very bendy and thin. Lay that on top of any carpet especially medium to high pile carpet. Will simply not support the weight of a person walking over it. This will create a lot of movement thick like memory foam your weight will sink into the carpet underneath. You need 5 - 10 mm thick hard plywood NOT poster board on top of the carpet.

    • @IdaAlexis
      @IdaAlexis  2 года назад +1

      @@IdaAlexis please don't take offense you've done a nice presented video showing a budget friendly way. I'm simply answering the question asked. If they do like this they will be redoing it a couple of years later. The more it's walked on the more indentations will appear much like memory foam due to the underlay (poster board) not being firm or thick enough for body weight walking on it.

    • @IdaAlexis

      Hi! I had this on for about six months before moving out and overall it held up pretty good. This DIY would only work on a very low pile carpet. If it’s too thick or high, the tile won’t sit flat and feel firm. Also, in regards to moisture, yes, you have to be careful. I vacuumed and use a swiffer with wet wipes to clean and that’s fine.
