REUPLOAD: This vid is a modernization of one of my early ones that was taken down after it was threatened with a copyright claim for no apparent reason. I altered the script slightly to include information from BSG Deadlock.
WHOOPS: Just realized I said 'Port Flight Pod' when I meant Starboard. Great, that'll piss me off every time I come back to this vid lol.
I think your video just got modernization by Bot. Google recently emplement an AI which will automatically demotenized video after certain condition had been met. Problem is, it still learning, so stuff like your video happened. ( Though iirc there's more than that) :D
If I recall correctly they made the same mistake once or twice in the show about the flight pods so no worries xD
So say we all.
Oh yes please!
Love the fact Spacedock doesn't waste vid space with fluff talk, just sticking to the good stuff, keep up the good work.
Adama flying his old fighter and looking at his battlestar...one of the best closing scenes of that series
The Viper MK 2 might be my favorite sci-if fighter. I love the X-Wing, but (in the movies) they are never shown to be nearly a maneuverable as a Viper. The Vipers’ maneuvers are closer to what space fighters could/ would actually do.
You should check out Babylon 5 and how they handle space fighters, and Neutonian physics in combat. BSG did pretty good as well, but B5 nailed it.
@@briankriens5645 was about to say the same thing :) Earth Force's Starfuries are up there with the Vipers.
The X wing, The Viper, The Starfury, All of the best good guy fighters.
You know it's a genuine mark of respect when "real" F-16 pilots refer to their aircraft as Vipers. Long live the Viper!
Batou It's because us Air Force pilots are a bunch of nerds.
空軍パイロット Heh, I’ve actually heard the USAF referred to as the nerd branch of the military, the one where they play D&D and WOW in their time off. They sure enjoyed Stargate.
@@CantankerousDave That title sounds about right, although Dungeons and Dragons is a bit before my time
I thought it was the Japanese F-2 that was called the viper
CantankerouseDave Navy has a large nerd contingent of its' own, lol.
Easily one of the most Iconic Sci-fi craft.
Timothy Burning Read Exia's comment again. He says „one of the most iconic" not „the most iconic"
As a massive fan of BSG and recently playing Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, I absolutely love your content.
Bro Deadlock is good but I can't catch a breath to the point where I can stop building ships and just focus on missions.
As beautiful as they look, I've always thought their engines were too large for space, but of course it makes sense for atmospheric flight.
Even years later when I hear the entire fleet was scuttled when the colonials restart I have a internal moment of rage humanity is not good at putting its head in the sand and hoping trouble does not find them why they thought getting rid of the entire fleet would be a great idea I will never understand would have been a much better idea to hollow out a asteroid and put as many of the ships in them as you can so when humanity again regained spaceflight they would have complete records of the cylons that are still out there and the trouble they might pose as well as a template to jumpstart their technology to what the colonials had
That's because your using your LOGIC sensors, just ignore all that and it will magically make sense.
I hated the ending of the new BSG for that reason as well.
Yeah, I loved BSG, but hated the ending so much I haven’t watched the series again since it originally aired, although I just started watching it all again a few days ago and while overall I still love it, a few things drive me about it. Firstly is Apollo and his “I know better than anyone,” as well as the whole Ceylon sympathizer storyline, which is just starting in this play through.
Yes, I know people can be idiots, I mean there are still people today who think communism is good for people, but when your faced with a race of robots, whose only goal is to kill humanity off, how are any humans going to sympathize, no matter if the robots have a good or bad reason behind their plan? Especially when there was no known contact with Cylons for 50 years before they surprisingly appeared and nuked the vast majority of mankind out of existence, including attacking every vessel, be it armed or unarmed. This would be like the Jews stuck in concentration camps demanding their Jewish leaders find a way to live peacefully with the nazis.
That's my general grief with the newer BSG series. It went Full Retarded way too many times, especially with the whole religion/angels themes and cyclon symping. Hence why I prefer the OG way more than the reboot.
If they have removed all that religious crap out of it and we only had 2 seasons, then it would be a perfect SciFi series.
Imagine slaving away on the Tylium ship just to find out out your now going live out life farming and living in a hut. Thanks Apollo.
I came as soon as I saw the title

0:44 "The standard Mark II is 8.4 meters in length..."
F-15: 19.45 meters long
F-16: 14.8 m
F-18: 17.06 m
F-22: 18.9 m
more or less. No wonder the Vipers on the show always struck me as, well, petite. :-)
Spitfire: 9.12m
P-51 Mustang: 9.83m
A6M Zero: 9.06m
It’s smaller than even World War 2 fighters.
@@adamstringer7092 As technology advances, it shrinks in size
Same case with Star Wars starfighters
@@AFrickingOrange That's because we can.
They're larger to accomodate the ability to fly in atmosphere since that's their exclusive domain. The Viper was a Space-Superiority fighter with the ability to fight in atmosphere if needed, though it lost a lot of mobility compared to its abilities in space. That and miniaturization is key for a ship based fighter since the less space it and its support equipment takes up, the more you can have on board.
Love it every time you say “...Cylon war.”
Coolest fighter by far, So say we all!!
I put it as the equal to starwars xwing
3 Dislikes are from cylons living among us.
Master Kast The other 25 are probably copyright trolls.
Don't forget that the likes are all from cylons, too.
I feel like I'm repeating here but, it keeps applying, excellent work!
Hey Spacedock! Can you do your take on the Battle of Scarif but instead of Raddus you are in command of the Rebel Fleet. The Same Objectives are in place but I'll reiterate.
1. Provide Support for Rogue Squadron Ground troops on Scarif
2. Deactivate the Scarif Planetary Shield
3. Ensure the Death Star plans are acquired and make it back to Rebel Command
4. (bonus) Minimize Alliance Casualties
Your Alliance Fleet
3 Braha'tok-class gunships
3 Hammerhead corvettes
At least 6 CR90 corvettes:
- The Tantive IV Is Docked to the Profundity
At least 4 EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates
10 GR-75 medium transports
1 MC75 cruiser:
- Profundity (Flag Ship)
At least 22 BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bombers of
Gold Squadron
At least 42 T-65B X-wing starfighters split into:
- Blue Squadron
- Green Squadron
- Red Squadron
2 UT-60D U-wing support crafts
1 VCX-100 light freighter
Scarif Defense Fleet
2 Imperial I-class Star Destroyers
- Intimidator
- Persecutor
At least 100 TIE fighters
Shield Gate
Death Star will arrive later in the Battle.
Darth Vader will also arrive later via The Imp I-class SD Devastator.
Chainsaw Panda you forgot to add the Ghost
Chainsaw Panda great idea though!
the Ghost is a VCX-100.
pendraco2000 oh I didn’t know that. My bad
Just bought my Eaglemoss Mk. II ! Can't wait to put it out on display :D
Because of your videos I bought the game yesterday and already played it 10+hours
BSG Deadlock is very addictive. :)
Have you considered covering the ships from Cowboy Bebop? They have some really interesting designs and I've never seen them really explored
No liked Cowboy Bebop.
Love the BSG music. One of my favorite shows ever!
I loved the original series, and the reboot. Loved the ending of the original "BSG arrives in 1980 and reveals herself to our planet Earth". Hated the ending of the reboot "humanity reduced to hunter gatherers even though much of the Cylon forces, and all of their infrastructure were very much fully operational". That ending, along with Lee wasting the Pegasus to save an inferior ship even if it was the Galactica, were IMO terrible decisions.
That last image is amazing.
I prefer the mark 7 but when you talk about how good the mark 2 served mankind in two wars against the cylons the end made sad, they drive so much incredible ships direct into the sun... allways hated that ending.
I hated the ending of BSG .THE CYLONS WON .
Lost interest in the third season I think. Just went and read the ending. Dumb as hell. They have the whole galaxy to explore and settle, and even all of Earth...and they destroy their technology. Wow. Hope they enjoyed dying of an infected tooth in five years. Good lord.
I hated all the heavy handed Mormon Bulls hit. Like the quorum of 12? That's an LDS thing.
I actually liked the ending but that's me
@@VorpalDerringer the tragedy was that writers guild went on strike for the entire fifth season! They were barley able to tell the story it was a disaster. All the television that season was a disaster but it was heart breaking when you got to the midway point of the final season and it was incoherent garbage. The biggest let down in the history of Sci Fi
This show and WW2 show EXACTLY why you should never disarm your armed forces.
"A wise king does not seek out war, but must always be prepared for it."
Odin- Thor (2010)
"It is better to be a warrior in a garden than to be a gardener in a war."
For the dradis onboard, I think these are only repeat displays. During the first cylon war there were huge numbers of dradis equipped vessels and thus it would make sense to provide the pilots in the vipers with accurate information, without weighing down the vipers by installing the full dradis computer hardware.
I saw Star Wars when I was 7 years old, and BSG came out shortly after. Even as a child, as cool as Star Wars is, I still loved the ships and fighters of BSG more. The Viper is by far my favorite small fighter in scifi, followed by either the X-Wing, or the Star Fury and Thunderbolt from Babylon 5.
Awesome video about the Colonial Viper Mark 2 Spacedock !
So, Viper Mk 2 have the option of flying with “Flight Assist On/Off.” Well that makes me feel better of my own piloting skills.
At least the Vipers don't have unrealistic, nerfed-to-hell yaw. That always annoyed me about Elite: Dangerous. Makes flying ships in it even more difficult than it needs to be, too.
Viper Vs A wing! Both piloted by Ace's!
No contest, the Viper would win from its manoeuvrability alone. The A-wing is fast, but it can't do half the manoeuvres that the Viper can. Vipers are also fast, too. There are only two advantages the A-wing has: lasers and the ability to jump. Everything else goes to the Viper. The only way an A-wing would win would be if the Viper pilot was incompetent and the A-wing pilot was as good as Anakin. Even then it'd be a close call for the A-wing.
@@NaD-o2p what kind drugs are you smoking? An A wing has shields.
TheWorstChannelYouKnow but as far as I know it’s shields do not stop bullets
People would say A-wing since it has shields. However it's not equipped with particle shield. Star Wars had two different kinds of shields. Particle and I forget the name of the second but, it was used to stop energy weapons.
the perfect fighter space plane, all engines and guns
I'm a simple man, I see Battlestar Galactica, I upvote.
Have you done any vids featuring “Space above and beyond”
Just one little thing. The starboard flight pod was the museum.
The Colonial Viper Mark 2 is an awesome star fighter !
Vipers are my favorite space fighter.. Trying to recreate it in Duel Universe right now.
There are actually full size props for the viper and jumper for sale. Pics are pretty cool. All the displays light up. They would draw a crowd for sure, especially if they were at an airbase.
Sure, the Mk. 7's were more advanced, but, until Galactica figured out how the Cylons beat them during the Fall & 1st Exodus, their defense 'net systems were totally compromised. And probably even more restrictive than Mk. 2's.
Nice and well put together
holy wow - where do you get all this info - it's fantastic and remarkable to understand the Viper even more :)
The Colonial Viper Mark II was one kick-ass machine.
I’d love to see a dogfight between a Viper and an X Wing , I wonder which one would win the battle ? 👽💚
Viper vs an A-Wing would be a closer comparison...not that the X-Wing wouldn't be a good match. :)
They'd kill eachother way before visual range via missiles, the Viper would destroy an x-wing in a dogfight where agility and gunplay is king.
The X wing has shields and plasma weapons. I love the Viper Mark II, but unfortunately Xwing has superior tech. The Tie fighter would probably be a much fairer fight.
@@jamesxiaolong2199 The tie fighter isn’t part of this combat equation.
Could you do a video on the Mark 1/Classic Viper? That would be great to see.
I'd love to see a video on the Mark 1 Viper as well. I just don't know if that info exists as I can't recall ever seeing one.
How about a video about the ghost fleet offensive?
Great vid as always, mate. Cheers.
Hey SpaceDock, keep up the good work. Could you do a video on the Titan ship from Titan AE or maybe the Dreg Mother ship or Dreg Fighters?
Nice little ships
💚👽
I do so love the Viper MkII design from the RDM version of Battlestar Galactica. The original Viper design from the original series is a cool looking fighter, but the RDM Viper MkII just cleans it up and streamlines it, to make it *that bit* more realistic. It's just a beautiful looking fighter.
What I can't figure out, is how they made the supposedly superior Viper MkVII so damn ugly. That thing is hideous to look at. I
suppose that's the point in a way - the Viper MkII is the hero fighter of the series, so it had to look good on screen, and the Viper MkVII had to look like a soulless redesign.
Always preferred the Viper over the X-wing.
What is that piece of music in the background called? I checked Battlezone II and found nothing, but I assumed it was from RDM's BSG. Help, anyone?
Last battle of the Osiris from Battlestar Galactica blood and chrome
Watching this in jan 2020 just ordered the mk 1,2 vipers from
Eaglemoss
That was enjoyable.
my fav fighter craft
The last mark II’s were located on Galactica’s starboard flight pod not the port on the mini-series.
The Mark II Viper is iconic within the Battlestar Universe.
Ah, the wannabe X-wing...
(I'm joking of course but it's hard to deny where the inspiration of the design came from.)
Definitely prefer these over the "E-Wing"
Well, the original BSG was made to cash in on the popularity of Star Wars....
Ask a man named John Dykstra...Google it...
Will you do a video on the colonial viper mk 1 from the original battlestar Galactica series please?
I love your work but I found an error. The starboard flight pod was the museum not the port flight pod.
Question: have you ever read any novels by Ian Douglas? I have quite a few of them and find them...interesting. He seems to go out of his way to make things as 'realistic' as possible, but I'd like to know your thoughts on the various series' if you have any.
What source did you use to put the number of Mk IIs at 80 in the beginning of the Exodus?
Have you considered doing a review of the Viper Mk I (original series)...?
Can we see a review of the Viper Mk 1?
I like that vid69 painting.
How about doing the ship from Starship Troopers I liked the video from you a week or so ago but interested in the ship like the Roger Young
Id love to see you make some andromeda ascendant ship videos :)
Can you do a video on the space 1999 eagles and hawks the mark nine hawks which I’ve always loved... They were warships...
35 minute ad for a 4.5 min video. GG RUclips.
You should make one of the Mark I
I'm just excited to see the new B/SF-17 in Star Wars. It's about time they introduced more bombers other than the BTL Y-Wing
T-47 Snowspeeder or the Pergrine fighter from Star Trek please.
Where does it hold all the fuel? Or does it just run for 5 minutes and go dead?
Have you ever thought of taking the forces from one IP and battle and 'translating' them into comparable forces of another IP. Example, translating the Rebel Fleet at Scarif to a Federation Fleet from Star Trek or Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica and then analyzing the fight from there. I know you have something similar with your Versus series but it was just an idea.
can you do a episode on children of a dead earth?
I have a interesting question what if the star forge from kotor could produce stargate zpms
The Argo
Be interesting to see a compassion between a Viper MkII and a Babylon 5 SA-23 Aurora Starfury or the B5 SA-26 Thunderbolt Star Fury.
Dude, you should do the TIE Avenger.
any info on a viper mark 7
Harrower Class Dreadnought. I mran you did do the terminus so why not its bigger meaner cousin
What i found very strange about S3 was that the entire crew of the pegasus vanished with the ship even though lee explicitly said that Pegasus' fighters where guarding the fleet.
Where are they all? Why are they still bothering with the mk2's? They should have more than enough mk7's...
the oberon dread class of wh40k or a other super heavy staceship of the imperium
I'd like to see the original Jupiter 2 from lost in space .The Seaview from voyage to the bottom of the sea .
Please do the Recusant Class Light Destroyer
Could you do a video about a Wraith hiveship from Stargate?
TheRevyFilms seconded
Thirded.
Didn't think anyone would agree with me, awesome!
i'm a noob i eat dogs that are hot no not hot dogs i said dogs being burned *wink wink*
Could you do video about the battle star pegasus
Can you make a video analysis of the Destiny Ascension from Mass Effect?
Hey space ever thought of covering Hyperion corporations from borderlands massive H shaped Helios space station?
anyone else noticed how somehow they got what was suppose to be adamas viper on the galactica but in razor you see it lost when he ejects durring the last battle of the war after a collision with a raider?
Legends version
So what became of Adamas ship after it landed on Earth? is it in the lost city of Atlantis perhaps (which would have been a nice spin off lol BSG : Atlantis, but someone would probably get sued lol, better call for Romo Lampkin)
Neat.
If you think about it, humanity in the Battlestar Galactica universe could find remains of destroyed vipers when they start interstellar travel.
Panzer Dragon there should be wreckage of both vipers and Galacticas hull plating littering the moon in the BSG universe, can you imagine an alternate universe Niel Armstrong finding a slab of meter thick armour plate during the moon landing
In pretty sure Galactica had 40 mk 2 in the museum flight pod
Ever do the MK VII?
I'm Viper Captain on line
nothing like going old school as they say if it isnt broke dont fix it
What about Star Wars E-Wing?
Could you do Home One
A frakking excellent fighter. No felgercarb
What no mark 1 and what about Buck Rogers ship
I wish they'd never scuttled the remaining fleet ships, such a sad end for such magnificent machines. They could've just sent them off into deep space with the last Cylons. Oh well.
well i prefer raptor tbh. But Mark II kicks ass too
Dumb question: how do the Viper pilot see what's behind them?
Mirrors
@@Utubesuperstar I’m well aware of the mirrors on our fighters but I didn’t see any on the Viper cockpits
