I've seen this several times but I've got tears in my eyes every time, he's brilliant and he's so funny when describing the Orient Express adventure......amazing!!!
Go on Rooty, I'm interested in your experience with Connolly. I know someone who knows the Chuckle Brothers first hand and apparently they're terrible, I can believe it.
To be fair, Kevin does speak in his very natural tongue. Usually celebs would tone it down, i.e. Ewan McGregor, but Kevin keeps it real. Gotta respect it.
I noticed Ron Howard had no trouble understanding Kevin ... And maybe if he didn't catch a word or two, he didn't point it out like the senior citizen on a day trip at the end of the couch
The Glaswegian accent is tough for Americans in general. My brother-in-law is from Glasgow, and even though his accent isn't quite as strong as Kevin's, every time he comes to the US, he gets a lot of blank looks when he's trying to order food or engage in some other transaction with the locals. I have to resist the urge to translate for him, because naturally he doesn't like that very much!
Ron Howard's genuine laughter and kind almost humble expressions made me really like him. No wonder the biggest names love Graham's how. There's no hierarchy bull shit, or if there is, they don't get invited back
I was born in St Andrews in Fife and believe me Kevin Bridges talks very clearly and articulately for a Scotsman, try listening to an Aberdeen, a Fife or a Dundee accent and you wont have a clue what is being said. The Glaswegian accent is definitely one of the easiest Scottish accents to understand.
My cousin has done well for herself and now lives in Anniesland. She has bumped into Kevin Bridges in the street round that way and says he's a good lad. As an Englishman, I have to say that his generic English accent is brilliant.
Call me crazy, but I find Scottish accent very sexy. For me, it's a combination of a brute force of nature and a jovial temper wit a touch of sarcasm in it. When i went on a tour around different parts of Scotland and heard regional accents I was enthralled. As I say, I fell in love with London, but left a piece of my heart in Scotland. And Kevin Bridges is absolutely hilarious!
I guess I had no problem understanding Kevin Bridges for the most part. I have friends of different nationalities and that helped me get used to the many different accents.
I am French-Canadian, english is my second language and I can understand about 90% of what he is saying. I don't get how some people are linguistically challenged to THAT extent. Really...
@Allington Marakan Lily Tomlin is an American comedian!!! It's not too difficult to understand comedians being witty towards, applying intelligence to their humour... ....It's a higher level than most people's Saturday night pub caveman humour.
@Allington Marakan Being American, I completely agree with you. I remember Lily Tomlin as a child and never thought her very funny. Ron Howard seems to be much more down-to-earth. And, it seems he has little problem understanding Kevin. I have no problem understanding Kevin and think he's hilarious.
I'm Scottish and to be fair Kevin's accent is fairly strong, but it's definitely understandable, even when I went to America for a trip, they couldn't understand what I was saying! I JUST WANTED WATER!! 😂
Nah, she's just an idiot. I'm easily a quarter of her age and more intelligent and able to understand his accent. It's just about making the effort to not be an ass about somebody different.
Alyssa Solis Thank you for respecting our accent and making the effort instead of acting like an ass. Dunno her name but she's a moron and if she can't be arsed to work out what we're saying I'm no looking up her name. Fucking moron🤣
The US population is very diverse with lots of different accents that vary from regions to demographics. Your opinion on the matter is very subjective and frankly quite ignorant. Perhaps you simply dislike American culture in general and use that as an excuse to hate on it given the chance.
Ireland has a different accent for each county (32 counties) and most Irish people can understand any accent of the world, so your argument that because America is diverse and has a substantial number of accents is ludicrous.
I'm Scottish. My wife is English but brought up in Inverness. I've lost count of the times she has translated for Americans. I was in Arkansas and got interviewed by a local news channel. They gave up and left. I was speaking as slowly and clearly as possible. I think the problem is that most Americans hear the accent and shut off. They don't try and listen to the words because they only hear an accent. They assume that people should change for them wherever they are in the world. I've seen it all over the world. They always come across as arrogant, ignorant and loud.
@Graeme McKay Out of interest and without giving any personal details away, were you being interviewed on local news 'cos of something you do or witnessed or was it just that they don't get a lot of Scots people in Arkansas?
As an Arkansan I'm curious what part of the state you were in. Which station interviewed you and why? I find it difficult to believe any news station would give up and leave an interview.
Lol I find it crazy that the Americans and Australian were having a hard time understanding. I’m British/West Indian and he actually hilarious and easy to understand
@Klavin. I'm Scottish, from the East coast, and I can't understand a lot of what he says. Some people just struggle with strong dialects. But it was rude how she said it. I'm apologetic when I don't understand accents. Like when I get an Indian call centre, It's often really embarrassing having to ask them to repeat everything.
Because we grow up seeing many US TV shows we learn their accents as young kids. There are not that many non US shows on their TV, particularly with Australian/Scottish accents, so they just don't learn our accents as they have seldom heard them.
He doesn't put on an English accent he just talks slower. Maybe he modifies his accent slightly but he's still pretty broad Glaswegian here, not much different from the shows he does in Scotland.
My father was from Bridgeton. After not visiting Glasgow for many years, I went up and stayed with family. Having a few drinks and relaxing when my uncle asked me a question. I kept saying 'pardon'. After his third attempt, I recognised that he was asking me if I had trouble understanding his accent :-)
I'm American, I understood Kevin just fine (he's the reason I've watched this video). Lily Tomlin has been a brilliant comedian and actress for over 50 years here, and is quite intelligent. IDK why she had trouble understanding him, She's 76 in this clip, so maybe her hearing is deteriorating? I've been a fan of hers since I was a little child, so maybe I'm not seeing what Scots or others see, but I don't think she was being rude, especially not intentionally. She's certainly not known for it; quite the opposite, in fact. Also, I don't think she brought up her lack of understanding; Graham kept asking her about it. Should she have lied?
There are accents in the US that are incomprehensible. I jumped in a taxi in New Orleans years ago and didn’t understand a single word the guy said all the way from the airport to the city centre. Had no idea where I was going to be dropped off, just hoped to survive.
All it takes is to have a bloody conversation once in your life with someone with a strong Glaswegian accent and you'll start to understand after 10 minutes. The fact this woman has never had a conversation with a Scot before blows my mind
Kevin should've told her to down 2 beers & a few shots, fast. People are fluent with any language /accent after that. 😂😂😂 I'm from South Africa, Kevin. You sound solid on this end, brother. Love your sense of humour.
I don't understand why there are so many mean comments about Lilly Tomlin. I don't think she's being rude. I think she really can't understand him, for whatever reason, and is trying to be funny about it. I have seen the entire episode. It seems to me that she really is trying to understand. Must people be so unkind?
I am Scottish, I have spoken to English speakers from all the world , there is often a language barrier to cross which I don't mind, I slow my conversation down, I have also done accents so people can understand me better.
I never quite got why people couldn't understand him. He's speaking pretty clearly. I can understand scots, yanks, aussies, kiwis, even springbocks, the only people I've struggled with are people from Barnsley.
I think Kevin was doing his best to speak as 'normal/proper' to be heard by Lily. I'm not sure if that was her attempt at comedy, because I do think she does have some comedic moments, or if it's genuine. If Ron Howard didn't fully understand it, he went with it and it wasn't awkward. Chris and Ron were the best. I mean, near the end, you could see and hear Kevin super pronouncing 90% of the words. I'm Canadian, raised with a Scottish mom - Dumbarton, Scotland. But would Lily had done this to a person from a different nation as well? Like someone from Sweden? Ukraine? India? Sudan? French speaking Canada?
I've faced a lot of problem too, most of the people can not understand what i'm talking about. So, it makes me feel bad and even let myself to silent nature; in fact, i stop talking to people as long as possible...
I actually met Kevin bridges after he came off the boat, I was at my dads boat at Cameron house marina just tying up and he and his mate walk by n I’m tryna sprint after him sayin can a have a photo
I saw a very good explanation why some Americans are poor with accents. Most English speakers outside US hear many accents including US accents (US movies, TV, etc). Americans mainly hear only their own local accents and only watch mainly US TV, movies, etc.
Ron Howard seems to have no problem understanding Kevin, in fact he really seems to like him !. Lily Tomintoul, on the other hand ................. ach, maybe it's her age ??
I'm Welsh and I couldn't understand him at first. But he told this joke about having a Chinese with his mate sleeping over his mates house and they cooked their own rice in the house. Hooose rice. I managed to understand most of that joke it is one of his best. I can understand him easily now though. He's fuckin hilarious

Gotta hand it to Ron Howard... He made a fair attempt at looking like he understood *anything*, without having to say *anything* himself.
Nah, he got it, he's mates with Billy Conolly.
@No One. Aw fuck. I liked Ron until I read that. Connolly is a real obnoxious prick - I know first hand. I'd no time for that wanker.
Go on Rooty, I'm interested in your experience with Connolly. I know someone who knows the Chuckle Brothers first hand and apparently they're terrible, I can believe it.
@P N in Scotland cunt is a term of endearment in the main
I think Ron Howard totally understood Kevin. I'm an American and I think Kevin was very clear.
Kevin´s Scottish accent RULES!!!! He is gifted...and this episode as usual was full of talent.
To be fair, Kevin does speak in his very natural tongue. Usually celebs would tone it down, i.e. Ewan McGregor, but Kevin keeps it real. Gotta respect it.
Ewan mcgregor is a legend
I noticed Ron Howard had no trouble understanding Kevin ... And maybe if he didn't catch a word or two, he didn't point it out like the senior citizen on a day trip at the end of the couch
Ron Howard is one of Billy Conolly's mates.

RockaFella Aye very good Oscar Wilde, I bet that took a while to compose.
