This GCG promo video is actually better than many Sticky Goose videos.
Bahahahaha
i don't know about that. That CGC video was hard to watch...and she came off as completely inept
You’re smoking crack, this CGC video is another attempt to at masking their internal issues and case defects.
This promo is actually better than All sticky goose videos.
You guys probably call shoes “kicks.” 😂
'Hi CGC, I'm some random kid from off the street. Can I be your chief grader?'
*YOU'RE HIRED!!*
It looks like the product of a terrible PR / advertising firm.
Someone remembered the cringe Matt Nelson interview and said, hold my beer!
“Hey, nice kicks…”
"For me it's so much about eye appeal." Horrible thing to say and it goes towards the inconsistencies in grading. Eye appeal is purely subjective.
Pretty sure everyone can agree a piece of art is attractive or appealing by consensus (Sistine Chapel). Her statement was about the same defect on two books not being equal or "1 + 1 = 2" in relation to the artwork. If a stain is blatantly more present on a white cover than another book with the same stain location, same length, but blends, obviously that is what she is referring to.
@@JerryU1101 Jerry, you again!? She is not grading the Sistene Chapel (of which there is only one.) She and all the other graders are grading comic books. And they all need to be consistent and objective as possible. A 2" tear on the back cover is graded no differently than a 2" tear on the front cover, even though the book will have much better "eye appeal" if the tear is on the back cover.
@@spinnerrackstudios then perhaps apply and work at CGC. Be the “change you want to see” rather than armchair Monday quarterback. I see nothing but negativity in literally almost all your comments. Life must be hard for you.
@@spinnerrackstudios you seem to get all “up and arms” with any rebuttals someone gives you as well. Calm down. Your grammar goes off the rails in proof of this.
@@JerryU1101you sir, are a huge 🤡. You obviously aren’t a fan and are here to hate watch. What’s more pathetic; you hate watching, or attacking someone’s grammar in an online argument….🤦♂️
CGC is the McDonalds of the hobby. Expect nothing more.
This makes me not want to send stuff for grading 😂😂
When she said it isn't something you can get professional training for (grading) I took that to mean there weren't 3rd party schools that taught how to grade comic books. The training takes place in house. I didn't take it to mean they aren't trained.
It does surprise me that CGC groups books published from 1975 to now as "Modern." I recently sent some books to CGC for grading for the first time and that stuck out to me. That's a 49-year span of time. Comics published in 1975 are vasty different than books published last year.
Now I’m glad I don’t pay ridiculous prices for 9.6’s and 9.8’s. This makes CGC look like a joke. No wonder they had employees manipulating their own books.
what a goofy company
"By Gawd!....I love this channel!"....in a WWE Jim Ross voice!❤
That was exactly the opposite of reassuring, and kind of confirmed what I suspected. Great video. I agree with ⬇⬇.
Grade your own books. Their opinion on a grade is no better than yours. The true CGC worth comes from the restoration check on high value items.
People just don't seem to care to take the time to learn how to grade. Trust me, you will get 'corrected' at times, but that's how you learn. The best way to know if your grading is decent, have a circle of collectors/friends, to help criticize you. A good LCS would have some helpful customers/employees that could initially offer a newbie some solid advice. In this day and age, I think high grade pictures are key. The more the better actually. As for restoration detection, it just takes time to learn, but for books that are 'pricey', I'd definetly want those second, third, even fourth opinions, from people that have the experience.
You don’t need Cgc to spot restoration. It is easily spotted if you’re looking through your book. Online purchases is the realm of Cgc. When you can’t look at it yourself.
Second hand embarrassment in overdrive
To play Devil's advocate, I applaud CGC for trying to humanize the company making these type of videos. They just didn't delivered properly. The female was extremely nervous, the body language was awful and the script wasn't practiced enough. Not mentioning the poor choice of words implying ''there is no professional training'' for CGC graders. Again, I dig the idea of CGC doing these type of videos, they just need to do it right. No hard feelings with the lady or CGC.
Keep doing the great content StickyGoose almost 10k subcribers
Wow...in my experience in the advertising world back in the day, you always need to know who your "focus group" is aka audience. CGC thought having a young grader was their choice?? Why not a older, seasoned grader? Yeah, terrible PR. I agree with Sticky.
Now I finally have a good reason to chime in.
1st. HEY DUDE! Bob...good to meet ya!
Now, my friend Jay, who is a collector of HIGH END KEYS and a meticulous gentleman when it comes to his books, lives right down the road from CGC in Florida.
He went in and tested to become a grader.
Everyone is given a few different books to examine and a spreadsheet that gives them a gauge for color breaking tic sizes tears tanning, dirt etc. The obvious blunted corners and color/gloss stuff is all discussed as well as everything on said spreadsheet. Jay grade 3 books and was dead on. He was given a second book as "quiz time" if you will...and aced it as well.
He said most people weren't very diligent and had absolutely zero shot at getting the job...but also that variables do indeed come into play.
Good grief this does not even come close to restoring my faith in CGC. So what was the goal of this video? To make us all feel like cgc graders are our buddies? To show us how they’re just like us they love comics and just stumbled into this fanboy job with no training?? There’s not a single thing she said that made me think oh ya I need to start sending books in to these guys.
She’s cute, articulate, personable and believable. What’s not to like??
You would think a company as large a cgc would put out something more professional looking.
Talk about half a step forward and 10,475 steps back!!
Honestly would love if slabbing wasn't a thing other than to protect books. The grading is so subjective and isn't a science.
I'm still comprehending and really don't know what to say! 😂
I think the goal of this video was to recruit more workers away from McDonald’s. The line about “if you don’t fit in anywhere, you might fit here” is for all those people with 3 weeks experience at 4 different jobs in the last year. Don’t give up! Try CGC!
CGC needs to grade accurately and make sure they aren't stealing books... wtf was that?
I'm gonna tell my broke friends to apply at CGC, no experience necessary!
She does look like she spent her late 20’s living out of her car.
I gotta agree with you. That was a horrible idea for cgc
The woman was so extremely nervous. I got secondhand embarrassment from it. Cool video, CGC!
all the self soothing hand grasping was interesting
Lost me at eye appeal 😂
Dan wants to see how the sausage is made, not a puff piece.
Imagine for a moment... there is a company where you can send your comics for grading. There, for the cost of $40-$100+, (and a 50/50 chance that they will damage, or switch your book with another from a high volume customer) someone who loves comics, but has no professional training will assign a grade based on eye appeal, and forever mark your beloved comic with a number grade. What is the difference between that and having a seasoned comic collector/dealer grading your book for free, then placing it in a secure plastic casing? Uhhhh, nothing! Everyday, CGC shows us why we should not trust them.
"Forever mark your beloved comic with a number grade", umm... you can crack the book out if you happen to disagree with said grade. Lot of hate energy coming from you.
@@JerryU1101 Your comment says more about you than me. I said nothing hateful, just my opinion, which I assume is opposite from you (So now a days, that's hateful?) I've been collecting comics for 50 years, and don't like how CGC manipulated the hobby early on, and basically brainwashed a whole generation of collectors to think that "the grade" is more important than the comic (oh no, more hate... make it stop!) A negative opinion is not "hate". I actually published a book on positive thinking and inspired living, if you'd like to pick up a copy, let me know. Amazon has 1 copy left.
I hate using this word, but there isn’t a better one:
The CGC video made me "cringe."
"shadowing my first week..." so now we know how much "training" they do.
This is pretty on point for CGC. Trust me, I've meet a lot of people who worked there. The higher ups are snakes and the rest are corporate climbers. There's a handful of people who are actually cool and not dick heads.
Shoutout trapped under ice
That caught me so off guard lol
Damn, and here I was thinking a bunch of people dressed up like 007 agents with some sort of comic book making sense… A Sommelier of comics if you will.. but here we have a modern day 18 year old grading books on which ones are prettier.
Remember kids... we're the stupid ones for still submitting and CGC knows it
This is the company that everyone holds in high regard to any other grading company 😮. Cbc fo me !
For me, i thought i was going to see a dust free chamber and workers in outbreak suits. No one even had gloves on.
First 1975 to present is modern age at cgc? C'mon with this.
So modern age covers the last 50 years??? I don't think so. Maybe it's time for another tier era for comics.
Sigh. I like to imagine CGC as being comprised of middle aged, scientist looking men and women with gloves, those eye magnifiers that jewelers and surgeons wear, with well-worn copies of the CGC grading book in plain sight on every desk. I will never be able to unsee this.
This video really makes them look like idiots.
Grading at CGC is definitely not like this. I have friends who know professional graders in comics, sports cards, pokemon, mtg, etc.. According to them, it's literally like working at fhe Pentagon. Everythinb is top secret. The grading process is very elaborate, precise, and intense. Sometimes, the books and cards go through more than 1 pair of eyes. Also, they typically will have comparisons to other books graded at a specific grade to determine the appropriate grade of your book.
It's definitely not, "Oooooh I love this book! How's it look, Billy? I LOVE IT! 9.8! Or, ewww I hate this character. The book looks meh, I'm giving this one a 9.4 cuz i hate that cover/character.... That is not what goes on there, lol.
Oh dear god , now we know where all your comics at
He seem kind of disgruntled !!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣They are ALL disgruntled!!! they hide the pain well.
It's getting old. Lay off of CGC already. No one cares. You have CGC books behind you. RUclipsrs still send their books. Let's stop already
l liked her comment that "There is a misconception that 1 plus 1 equals 2." Ooooookaaaay.
My favorite part was no professional training whatsoever. Can we launch the CGC grade-at-home program, now? We can do our own grading and print our own labels! What do you think? I feel like a senior-level grader already with the amount of comics I looked at over the years. 🤔
She said the quiet part out loud.
Grading, more subjective than we already believed.
This was one of the worst marketing moves ever
sooo for what i saw i can work on cgc
I can remember when collecting as a kid, you were happy with a decent copy. As in no tears, coloring on, names written inside, etc, just a book that presented well enough and stayed together. Then there were the 'older' kids that came along, and said, 'my book looks nicer'. From that, CGC was eventually born.
I thought they hired professionals for this 😭
This vid did not do anything to instill trust in the CGC grading process. When trust is at an all time low..the company
chooses this example as a professional grading company. I am skeptical.
Additionally, i'm still questioning the connection with CGC's third party vendors. The company should cut all ties with
anyone that sells collectibles. I get emails from dealers that have business ties to CGC. Im on a list because im a member
and yes i agreed to that.. but the appearance looks suspicious. The system could be rigged and that would ruin
this part of the hobby.
That was whack.
Cringe
Taint McRae; hottest shit in Sarasota since Waffle House started putting ketchup on hashbrowns.
I feel like this is an outtake from a larger training video.
So if she loves Turner she’s likely to give you a better grade. Until they have all automated grading I’m out.
You should probably stay out with your attitude. The printing process in itself can create defects on the onset and that's why some books are graded on a "curve" as the entire run has the SAME defect. With your logic, some books would never attain a 9.8 or above with this failed logic.
@@JerryU1101silly silly reply... jerry must be matts alt
@@horvathsogranfume658 sounds like a fun job. He is a nice person in real life though.
@@JerryU1101🤡 alert 🚨 Over here “he’s a nice person irl”. How about you take his pp out of your mouth?
This is the worst video they could ever put out. Anyone who watches it should not send them ANYTHING to grade. Look at the grader workstations - it looks like stuff piled up in an office. I guess you can get a 9.9 if it has “eye appeal”.
Sponsored by Adderall.
Sticky… it was fine. She was nervous, it was done with some humor on their end. At least now we know some people who have been grading our comics I applaud them for creating a video and giving us a little bit of insight behind the scenes.
Currently sending in my whole collection to cgc. They sold me!
"Eye Appeal"........What?
I thought you were pretty mean spirited here, TBH.
Where can I view a basic breakdown of exactly WHAT happened, how did it come to the attention of the community, who is affected and what has been the aftermath so far. I would like to know from the beginning. Even if it isn’t VERY current, I still want to see what this is all about.
Thanks guy. Good work!
I have a video about it and the updates
To be honest I watched it after this video and I feel the same way why would you say there’s no training for this
Also that part about it being all about eye appeal and two books could have the same issue in different places and the grade is different
I don’t think that’s a casual question I’d want more details about what that means and why
Dude, this video is not as cringe as what you do lately. I used to look forward to your content but lately it’s mostly bitching about what you don’t like from other YTers, comic stores and now CGC. Be more positive dude.
I mean, “professionally trained” is still a loose statement. Shadowing someone and how that person breaks down grading and their approach to grading a book is absolutely going to be different than any other person that is being shadowed. However, CGC released the Guide Book or whatever which is basically the employee handbook available to non-employees as well. I suppose what Im trying to say is that grading a book is still subjective because it comes down to a humans interpretation of what is and what isnt.
It could have been worded better, no doubt. It did seem staged. I wonder how many takes it took to release this. I truly did not expect an office vibe mentally. I have a couple pairs of nice shoes, should I apply for a job?
Dorks judging other dorks. 😂😂😂 What a time to be alive.
I don’t know SG I think it’s genius. How can u ever get mad at someone so sweet? PS you should go join their team. I think you would fit right in.
Because of the pandering, being talked to like a child, or how fake it seemed. Bad PR move, even if they might be really cool people. This was weird.
@@fuzzy8593 if I knew what pandering meant. Maybe I would understand
Jeez now I know why my comics got damaged at CGC 😮😂
What kind of camera do you use?
So Gen Z is grading my books that are like sooo some kind of kool byotches and dudes that surf on the weekends and have shitty tattoos, sweet!
Its a racket.
After that video I am more convinced PGX is better
Nothing matters
Is the video still available?? Can't seem to find it.
They deleted it wow I just looked
@@Stickygoose Of course... thanks for posting!

Hey nice kicks!
To your first comment after the video was complete, how many women need to work there?
But there *is* formal training. Borock and co formally trained their graders. Buddy Saunders and co formerly train their graders. That's how you get consistency from your graders. The apparent fact that this lady is unaware of the training CGC has/used to have is terrifying.
Maybe it's just a dumbass throwaway line by a PR firm. If so, they need a new PR firm. The video just undermined trust in modern tier grading practices at CGC.
00:00:25 Riotously beautiful!
As staged as it was I appreciate any inside look we can get. It’s a real job. It’s not as glamorous or as professionally immaculate as we all pretend it is. I agree there was some cringyiness here but I’ll take what I can get to better understand what’s happening behind the curtain.
i feel kinda bad it feels like she was forced to do this

Whaa... my book is being graded by ... No wonder they came back with extra "ticks" or being "man-handled". Beside your Matt Nelson, both the main grader describing how they will grade 9.9/10 and this girl from this video doesn't represent your typical office / white collar vibe. No offense, the vibe I get is like my part time job at Office Depot when I was a teenager. Grunge, laid back look with a "Sup" man attitude. LOL. Based on how I feel and how the book present, you get 9.8. This book has ugly eye appeal, you get 8.0. lol. Now I get why there is hardly any grader note. You can't put this down in the grader note because the art has a ugly eye appeal. Muwhahaha.
