The guy seems really cool and down to earth. The sad part comes when he one day passes away and his family has to deal with it. Hope he leaves his family some good instructions on what to do.
"Collections" like this illustrates the glut of inventory out there hidden from sight most of the time. Obviously the dude is very proud of every fiber of paper of his "collection" and its clearly a source of joy. I understand perfectly.
Mr. Goose: while I cannot speak to the individual in the video, I take your point. The insidious nature of addiction is that we think it can’t happen to us. Addiction, hoarding and greed are more prevalent in the community than many like to talk about. I’m glad you did.
That's why there is Big difference between collectors and investors in comics. This man probably feels a lot of pride knowing and seeing what he has accomplished of the years doing this. There are too many flippers out there today.I give this man credit...a true collector.
I used to go to my LCS every week and get 10-20 new books. Now I just buy omnis/tpbs. Heck, I’m even thinking of selling my omnis after reading them but we’ll see…lol
The only way this comic game is going to survive is if the kids now start getting into it. And the way Disney has been going about it the future of comics looks a bit scarce.
One million books is pretty much absurd. Anything over 10K books in a PC is pushing the same limit. Understood a full run of ASM(700+) is a tenth of that and a good run of X-Men (up to 500), and Fantastic Four (500), Batman and Detective (1k ), Superman (1k) (around 4k books total). There should be a some limit because a million comics is 1/7 the entire printed run of XMen #1 worldwide... crazy when you think about the numbers.
If that guy had one of the big 3 or 5 books from the golden age or silver age he'd be able to pay for the whole collection... I'm addicted to the character of Lobo, I'm trying to collect his entire appearence history, I want all toys, posters, and statues too. I can't say I'm addicted to comics though. I pick up and put down the hobby periodically and I am willing to part with stuff I know I won't ever read again or care about.
But the man is happy, harms no one, his family will be rich and maybe his motives are deep and we are not able to see them. A bit critical on your part, Sticky, no pun intended😊
In my mind it only becomes an addiction when you’re spending money you can’t afford to spend, and then having to go without. Case in point when you can’t afford to feed your family or pay your heating bills because you’ve spent all your money on comics, you need to step back and think twice.
What Shelton showed was the back stock for his business, not his PC. He’s likely been buying collections for over 30 years. I’m sure his PC is incredible and a fraction of this size. I could see you saying addiction if he wasn’t a successful business owner with this many books, but he is the main guy in Charlotte and one of the biggest on the east coast.
You might be right, but around the 1:35 mark, I think the announcer calls it his comic book collection, which leads me to believe it is separate from his shop inventory. There are other statements in the video which suggest it is his PC, and not shop inventory?
I follow a popular and respected older comic book you tuber… he’s getting up there in age and his collection has gotten to the point where he is losing shortboxes in his own house and has absolutely no idea where to start looking for books…. His books are incredible but you can tell by how he talks he wishes he would have done it differently and not gotten so carried away with collecting every book… low grade isn’t always better than no grade
You can always tell how old someone is when they make an Ebert & Roeper reference instead of a Siskel & Ebert reference.

It wouldn't be sad for him, and his family should be ok. Plenty advice available, from RUclips know-it-alls.🙄
His family will be healthy as hell or could donate or create a museum in Charlotte.
I’d happily go through each book and create a spreadsheet for him.
I’m addicted to Sticky Goose content!
The best comic book youtuber ever.

Great comment! 👍
You wanna do it bro lol ha
Random Spidey comic?!? That one has Cardiac! On the COVER!!
I saw the Pez doc on Netflix. Guy called collecting a disease. I now just buy 3-5 high grade keys a year. Cutting back.
Live in charlotte and he’s pretty friendly. That collection is wild though
Used to go once a week now once a month to buy back issues. No more new ones.
I completely understand this guy though and anything can be an addiction! This one's just hard on your pocketbook!
It’s a business for him
If that 2nd mortgage is going to get you the "Keys to Life" if you will than I'm all for it!!
Almost as bad as MileHigh. If I were survive an apocalypse I think I’d head to MileHigh and read until I die.
Burgess Meridith, on The Twilight Zone. Don't break your glasses, after an apocalyptic event.
Verging on ? 😜 Keep it sticky 🤘
Anything over 960k is an addiction! 😂
Im saying Its His Comics, its upto Him, so just Let Him Be!!
They come down to Comicpalooza in Houston each year and to be honest are the main reason to go if you're a comic collector.

I use to have 9 long boxes but now, It's 7 and still pursing the ones I do not read or have doubles of.

Is Sticky Goose accidentally straight-edge?
HeroesCon is easily the best comic book convention.
What part of WV are you from? I grew up in the northern panhandle.
That ain’t even part of wv that’s above the mason dixon line
@@Stickygoose it wouldn’t be its own state if it wasn’t for the northern panhandle lol.
You showed your age by saying Ebert and Roeper. Instead of Siskel and Ebert haha.
I preferred Siskel to Roeper.
i have power over you
