This album has actually converted me into a full on Ethel Cain fan. I like her popular songs before but this album is so “Grouper” inspired and she has been one of my fav artists ever for a while so good on Ethel dude.
I feel like "singer songwriter princess" is immediately reductive. Outside of American Teenager, Ethel has consistently paved a way for her own art in an original way. I don't like that most people are entering this new era as "just another singer-songwriter" when her lyrics and production have suggested otherwise. When are people going to wake up and smell the roses? Thankfully, it doesn't seem like Hayden is waiting for anyone's permission.
Ethel always had potential to go in this more interesting direction, but sonically at least, she was never as original or experimental as this comment would suggest.
I knew this project wasn’t gonna be for me months ago when she started hinting it but still it’s quite impressive that she can produce an entire ambient album herself and not have it sound stale by the end.
I really love your take and open mindedness with the album!! I adore Perverts soo so much, the entire tracklist makes me think and makes me feel almost meditative? But I really do like noisy ambience. It makes me happy to hear. I got into her with Preacher's Daughter and I'm in love with that album and story as well. I just feel like she has a way with connecting her stories and her emotions to audiences, even if some sounds don't hit everyone. The scope of different stuff she's willing to try makes me excited! I think I'm tied between Punish and Onanist for favorite tracks, but I have a fondness for Pulldrone I can't put into words.
this album makes me feel the same way “the caretaker” and his music make me feel; well the ambient stuff definitely does not the more melodic stuff. Felt 100% same with what you said at the end. It took so long for a lot of the songs on PD to grow on me and I think the songwriting and lyrical context on PD is what kept bringing me back. that being said this is definitely above PD in every way. Both the ambient and melodic compliment each other so well and she perfectly balanced both atmospheres so well. While long I never felt like the more droney songs ever dragged on to me and the more melodic stuff blew a lot of the PD stuff out of the water. Will be having the album on for A GOOD WHILE
“I wasn’t as into her last project like some people were. I liked some of the singles like “American Teenager” *looks in the background and sees Taylor swift and Charli xcx* Making sense 😂 this album is definitely a departure and I was taken aback at first, but then once I let any expectation fall away and just dive into the space… it all of a sudden became my favorite project of hers. So many levels of artistry
If you enjoy this project, I really think you should look into Midwife, who did some of the guitar work on Amber Waves. She has a ton of ambient electric guitar music, which she self-describes as "Heaven metal" that I feel you'd probably vibe with.
I miss you on tiktok, it will likely return soon so that trump can live up to his greatest fantasies of being a knight in shining armour for the US but just incase it doesn’t come back I wonder what impact this will have on music. I feel like tiktok replaced radios ability to allow songs and albums and artists to blow up but no one listens to radio anymore so I wonder if this will prevent major chart successes I can’t see other social media being able to recreate that same ability but we will see
"Pervert's Son or Preacher's Daughter" LMAO
A diver is my love

Thank you!

Really? Cuz I liked Perverts way more than PD, which I feel like is the opposite of a Taylor Swift fans taste lmao
@ haha I was quoting him. I’m not into Taylor swift so much, so getting into Ethel was easier for me
@ I agree I like this more than PD
As an huge Ethel Cain fan I do know what's ambient music, thank you, I loved this project actually, can't stop listening to it
Love that you brought up Tim Hecker.

THANK YOU WILL WE ALL SAY IN UNISON
My album of the year as of 11 days in. But so beautiful.
Stay safe Will
I know it's crazy over there
Sending love and light as always 💕💕💕💕
loved this project so much, the outro of thatorchia is the most insane thing i have ever heard
Listen to alien observer by grouper!!! I can say with like 80 percent certainty ethel was taking inspo from her on that song
TECHNICALLY an Ep, a very long ep, but has that feel
It doesn’t feel like an EP, more like a…mixtape?
i mean she referred to it as an ep but by definition it would be considered an lp. i honestly would js call it a project tho
@@PARKERC99yeah i like project cause her sophomore album will be preacher’s wife
@ exactly
it's happening to everybody
2:50 I LITERALLY SAID THE SAME THING
the caretaker/robynson le tissier vibes and I'm here for itttt
just the emperors new clothes, Lucifer rising soundtrack predated this. Cindy Lee's work is far more haunting without the generic goth tropes
Whenever Will gets mad at people who say anything negative about albums he likes, I call him Spicy Willy also this is some Conjuring energy right here
WHERES THE LANA REACTION!?

closing commentary sounds nothingburger af but yasssss thanks for reacting
I kind of agree actually but it’s a hard album to digest in a first listen. I strung together everything that I could lmao
@ werk
this album confuses me
It’s about personal theology. She has a RUclips video from a year ago called the ring or smth where she delves into it
