Halsey is one of those musical artists who's so deeply entrenched in their own celebrity status that they create music that is intrinsically tied to their own personal lives and public image, in a way that makes the music inaccessible to an off-putting degree. If the only way to 'fully and truly understand this album on all the levels of its genuis' is to be familiar with the intimate details of halseys childhood, upbringing, dating and love life, pet ownership history, current family status, and medical history (and present) then perhaps this album was not made for the general public to enjoy but rather to pander to her existing fanbase that's already deeply invested in the lore of her life. It's also a very bizarre artistic choice to name an album "the great impersonator " and publically announce the direct artistic influence for each specific song only to then be like "oh no you silly fools the songs aren't supposed to actually resemble those other artists in any way haha what made you think that?!" Also A LOT of you in the comments have a concerning misunderstanding of what art is and what art critique looks like. She put an album out into the world and that means itll be held up to a certian standard of quality, and will be dissected and critiqued by other people. However vulnerable her position is- that doesnt make her immune to criticism. Just becaus someone went throug something difficult doesnt mean the song they wrote about that difficult thing is automatically good. A personal and intimate journey of healing and recovery gets processed behind the closed doors of a therapists office or is written in a notebook and put into a drawer. She made this a public piece of art and art is never exempt from scrutiny.

i love taylor but tortured poets being nominated makes it look on the same level as albums like folklore and 1989 which just isnt the case. i also think it makes it even less likely that taylors future music will return to what it used to be, if she gets into the mindset that she can make anything and it can be nominated

Yeah the general categories weren't bad. Would love to see Chappel or Charli to win and Billie, who I know has won a lot, but in my eyes she has the best stuff in there. I think what Taylor did deserve to be nominated for was best music video and best music film. Even as a huge Taylor fan I'd be shocked if she wins any other Grammys this year, particularly for Tortured Poets as an album.
