In 1974 I went to my first concert of my life. I was 14 and. Was going to see "YES". I didn't know that Griffon was the opening band for I never heard of them. They were promoting "Red Queen to Griffon Two. Needless to say, Griffon stole the show, yet it would take till I was Fifty before I was ever able to find their albums, or CDs on Amazon. I love Gentle Giant, and had all their albums, but the commercial music industry was horrible to Progressive Rock and eventually they broke up. So when at an old age I was able to buy all of Gryphons albums, I suffered severe face injuries from listening to them non-stop for a month straight. Smiling for that long of a time can put a permanent smile on your face. I live in the US and was never able to go to a lot of Progressive concerts, I love Progressive Rock, the perfect British Invasion. God bless the British people, progressive rock, and never forget the Queen! I am sitting in the Hospital not sure if I am going home ever again, but listening to Griffon sure can't hurt. God bless Griffon and all their fans.

But me and my friends started playing music on a piano in school which were always available to play. Then three of my closest friends picked up guitars and a drum so naturally I picked up the bass to. We submerged ourselves in rock, blues and so on, we just went deeper and deeper and also started to listen to jazz, prog, folk, all kinds of stuff. Then one day when we just had started to listen to loads of Swedish progg music, Gryphon just naturally slipped in to our listening habits and so far it’s all been a blast. I probably love the special medieval felling you get from listening to gryphon the most. Sorry if my English needs improvements, Cheers

Just to add my two cents.. I just want to say I wish I had discovered Gryphon decades ago! Now I am 65, and want these gentle men to continue making their hybrid music for decades more! Shame on Time to intervene with the glorious must-be-more. They certainly have not lost the battle yet - every note is perfect here.
Always loved this band way back in the 70's-80's. Amazing to see them still together 30+ years later and still making wonderful music. Equally astonishing (and yet not really surprising!) is the fidelity to the recorded version; no recording-studio tricks or overdubs necessary, apparently, for six musicians to make this magic together.
How wonderful to discover this magical performance nearly 46 years after seeing and being entranced by Gryphon live at the De Montfort Hall, Leicester, on Friday 25 April 1975, where they supported Yes on the Relayer Tour!
I cannot understand why parts 1 and 2 of Midnight Mushrumps were not also recorded at this concert. The video has been compiled from at least 3 separate recorders (front of stalls, back of stalls and balcony) and edited with a separate sound mix of a reasonable quality. It seems silly just to have recorded the last part. If the last movement is anything to go by, the whole of this piece would have been played brilliantly on the night. It is disappointing that the complete work has not been recorded in perpetuity. In my opinion Midnight Mushrumps is one of the best pieces of music to come out of the progressive folk rock era of the 60's/70's.
I was there when they performed this live at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester in the mid 70's. They were the 'Support' band to Steeleye Span, but were far more polished. This performance is even more polished. Brilliant. I am a Classical musician as really appreciate their musicianship and ensemble playing.
Fantastic... spellbinding... Midnight Mushrumps is one of my most-played albums, but this was the first time I'd seen them doing it live since seeing them at the Crystal Palace Garden Party in 1974. Long may they continue!
Totally awesome video and I seen them at the Robin 2 last year. But would love it if they actually filmed the whole concert like this and made a DVD. especially at this quality.
I was lucky to see them in 74 at the Crystal Palace Garden Party in support of Rick Wakeman doing Journey and again in 75 on the Yes Relayer tour - they were fantastic

My favourite bands are Yes, ELP, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Camel, Marillion (both in Fish's era and Steve Hogarth's). I also like Premiata Forneria Marconi - an italian prog rock band, as well Le Orme and Banco del Muto Soccorso. - also italian. I like Gong, a lot (french band) and of course, Tantra, the most famed portuguese prog band(in fact one of the top 100). I'm portuguese so I am very proud we've come up with such a great band. Take some time and check their albums on youtube. See their discography. One day, I was searching in the net for prog rock bands of the 70's, and one of the names was Gryphon. Curious about its name, I checked it further. Most joyfull time of my life! I discovered one of the est bands ever. The folk and medieval tones, oh God! How superb! How perfect! My soul was totally in connection with it! Then, I learnt that in fact theur first appearance in the US was as a support band to YES. It seems they overshaddowed them completelly! (Check Gryphon Ethelion recordings on youtube. It's a copy of Gryphon's recordings during YES tour). Any way, I was 50 or so, when I discovered them (I'm56). So needless to say it is nver too late to find happiness and joy in our lives!!! Like you, living in Portugal don't bring you too many chances to see prog bands live.They very seldom come to Portugal, even though had the chance to see Jethro Tuul, Camel and Yes, live in Portugal. Too sad to know, Gryphon will come to Portugal this coming weekend, but unfortunatelly, it is sold out, for the Gouveia Art Rock venue, which takes place every year in Portugal. Jethro Tull will come too, and another band which is now becoming famous will be attending too (Isildurs Bane, a swedish band formed in 1976). Like you an everlasting smile is in my face. Never got to be admited to the hospital though (LOL). God Bless America, and the English for being the mother and fatjer of prog rock! Couldn't help to notice, that you are an anti-Trump guy... Did Gryphon create the theme song for the 1970s series "A House for the Future" Granada TV, where the Grant family move into an energy saving house built during the programme. If it was a Gryphon song does anyone know what it was called?
