Wow! Excelent! First time that I hear some material from "Red Queen To Gryphon Three" played live by Gryphon in the seventies. Wonderful document! Thank you for share it
I saw these guys open for Yes in 1974. And it wasn't too damn easy for (relatively) unknowns to open for a band like Yes in the arena-rock era. They kept their cool and played a nice set. I haven't listened to them since God was a corporal, and I never really realized before how much some of their stuff shares certain elements with Henry Cow. Listen to 'Nirvana for Mice' and then come back to Gryphon.
Aí está uma banda totalmente diferenciada o prog medieval instrumentistas de alto nível e muito inteligentes o que não é nenhuma surpresa quando se trata do rock progressivo gostei muito viva o Rock agora é sempre
Interviewed them post-gig at Southampton Uni in about '76, maybe a year before they split. I was much more into Gentle Giant at the time and rather embarrassingly, I told them so! Good to here this again, though; intelligent music.
Thanks John Sharp, maybe this'll get the ball rolling. When I first checked on Gryphon in RUclips there was next to nothing. Now there's the reunion and this audio only live stuff. A while back there was no Hatfield And The North, and now there 's three different live clips, including one of the original line-up, only in existence for a number of months. wordofgord
btw. wordofgod, When I spoke to Brian a few years back re. the TV footage of RQTGT he had absolutely no recollection of the performance!!! Mind you, I guess that they were rather "heady" days and part of Mr Gulland's charm is that he is delghtfully eccentric (in the nicest possible way lol).
Discovered Gryphon on a Schools' TV Programme just after release of RGTGT. It was on BBC and', I think, was called "Music Scene" - they played "Red Queen" live in a statety home. Was off school sick for a couple of days which was how I saw it at home. Also, I recall, they played on a TV show with an early "Boy Band" called Flintlock who had a TV show in the late 70's... Maybe the footage still exists?
I have the DVD of HATN Live at the Rainbow Theatre, London. Apalling quiality but interesting none the less... Thanks for the comments. The Gryphon reunion was an incredible night!!!
Me too! 1975, Southampton Gaumont on the Relayer tour - and saw them at the Crystal Palace Garden Party 1974 when Rick Wakeman topped the bill with Journey - loved them ever since!
I find this: The foreparts of the Eagle, inc. the head, torso, wings, and front talons, and the hindquarters of a Lion, incuding the rear paws, haunches, and tail. An amalgamation of the two Kings - one of Air, and one of the Jungle - which bespeaks the Far Eastern origin of the Gryphon, possibly Persia or India. By the way, today is 6 jun 2009, after 31 years today Gryphon play alive in Queen Elizabeth Hall London. Coincidencia ¿no?
thanks for this, wonderful stuff. been waiting years for this, where has it been? You guys sound like you know your stuff, surely there's tv footage from the seventies? how could there not be? gratefully, wordofgord

HugelyRound I think "esoteric" would be an understatement in seeking an appropriate term to describe their music.

6:50 and after is my favorite part of the song. Really catchy and gets stuck in your head for weeks haha

Gran agrupación de folk, medieval, rock, conceptual, progresivo y renacentista música.
Somebody knows why Gryphon is the name?
It's a good name!
It's a hybrid creature as is the music.
I don't really consider still pictures of a band "live" even if the music itself is live. Any videos of them actually performing?
