Gryphon play the 3rd Movement of Midnight Mushrumps at The Union Chapel on Friday 29th May 2015
Meraviglia delle meraviglie ❤
I was there and it will always stay an unforgettable gig for me and many others attending
Great stuff! And still touring! 😊
First heard Gryphon in my UK university days in the 1970s. Was sad when they first broke up, but never knew they had re-formed, and certainly never expected to find this gem here in Australia so many years later. An absolute joy to see and hear. Wonderful music
Thanks for sharing !!!
Thanks for playing Dubbel Dutch. The Midnight Mushrumps album version was a bit "heavier", like a Renaissance Court dance played by Mötorhead. What's the name of the track that starts with loads of mad laughter ?
I've found the playlist. It's Ethelion. My favourite track on the album.
It’s my favorite track behind “ploughboy’s dream”
greatly medieval
Amazing
MAN I am NERDING OUT over HERE !!!
Brilliant performance!
My husband saw Gryphon live in 1974 at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Ft. Worth,Texas, US, with Yes, and we've loved their music since.❤
Absolutely extraordinary and completely unique, they are truly one of a kind.I first heard this back in 75 when I was 14 years old.Couldn't believe it then and still can't now.Where in the world do you learn how to play a krummhorn anyway? I couldn't think of anything sounding more authentically medieval.Anyone who doesn't believe in time travel has never heard these amazing gentlemen play.
I think that they (or some of them at least) are Royal College of Music graduates. I would imagine they studied Renaissance instruments and music. There was a bit of Tielman Susato influence there. I had their album ( I may still have it) Midnight Mushrumps. One of the tracks was the backing music for the Old Vic production of The Tempest with Gielgud as Prospero. It was a magical performance. I won't forget it. It was 1975. I was a fifth former.
*** Also most of them still have hair, although grayer/ whiter than they used to be circa 1974/75. 😊😁
Beautiful
que gran calidad
This is so lovely I welled up.
❤phenomenal wonderful music
so good !!!
So many happy memories. Best band ever. Got tickets for rearranged dates at Cambridge and Cromer and really can't wait.
“Why sit thou'st here along my grave and will not let me sleep?” 21:47 does anyone know why here the “thou'st” pronounced as /ðəst/ not /ðaʊst/? I'm sorry English is not my mother language and I do wanna know about this. 🙏
I thought it was Why sittest thou here?
The second part of opening number was also performed by Blackmore's Night.
Oh wow, ddi not realise they were still going 😍🥰
The juxtaposition of music so wonderfully eclectic and medieval sounding with the musicians reading their music off iPads and MacBooks. Who said young and old can’t co-exist? They should listen to Gryphon often. Great gig.
This is professionally recorded was this a fully recorded concert where could I find that or but it
Gosh, this YT discovery sends one of the biggest smiles, biggest crops in my throat and such a sheer BIG delight of joy through my musical veins. Never expected to see this by one of my alltime cult fav bands ever.
I loved Gryphon alongside David Munrow and the Consort of Musicke, who were more on the "classical" side of things. Musicianship wise, there was nothing in it. The early 70s was a great time for British folk and folk rock, Fairport, Steeleye, Lindisfarne etc. Gryphon fitted in there somewhere.
BTW Does Graeme Taylor still appear with the Albion Band, and Ashley Hutchings ? Does the Albion Band still exist ? ( I'm a bit out of touch, here in France. )
No Sir Richard Harvey?
Absolutely beautiful, sometimes they have a Gentle Giant taste or visa versa😊👍
Since I heard Red Queen to the Gryphon Tree as a teenager sold to this music. This is absolutely beautiful. Cheers!!!
All these years and you still don't get the title right...
@swiss Does it matter ?
@@AndriyValdensius-wi8gw I don't know... Does it matter to get things right? Do correctness and accuracy matter in life?
@@SwissCheese667 It matters if you're a neurosurgeon or operating a nuclear power station. It's pretty effin critical then. The name of an album from 50 years ago ? It matters if you're a sufferer of Asperger's Syndrome, I suppose.
@@AndriyValdensius-wi8gw "I only need to be strong when I lift 500 lbs. The rest of the time I can let myself go." Wouldn't wanna hand over a NPP to people with your mentality.
Superbe...Real music
i remember seeing this band at Fairfield halls with a band called refugee from switzerland and both were great
I played Red Queen to Gryphon Three so much in our 6th form common room in late 1970's that someone hid it in the roof.........
Hearing Kemp's Jig in the late 70s, I think, turned me on to medieval music. I then went on to study the lute for 10 years. It was all a joy! Thanks, guys. Do you still drink down 'the dog'!
Wow just discovered this! It sounds amazing. Feels like I’m in an english forest.. just strolling around.
Thanks for such beautiful music. - from Canada. GBG NO EDITS.
what i wouldn't give to see them live... but, this will do quite nicely ! 😊
I was hooked the first time I heard Gryphon. What a great sound.
gran banda de antaño
Thank you for sharing this! I'm a huge Gryphon fan but somehow missed this the past 2 years.
Amazing. I discovered Gryphon 2 weeks ago (Spotify recommended it to me) and I am in love with your work!
No other band will ever sound like this!
Yay, Second Spasm, my favorite!
I am just loving this performance and just want it to go on forever. So, I thought and thought and came up with the name “magenta” and so I suggest listening and hoping they will do. Tull also does a stretch to reach your heights. Love Ian Anderson and Derek Dick - too.
What an absolute pleasure to witness this concert. Loved Gryphon in the 70's, love them even more today and hoping against hope that another video sometime in the future may be possible.
This band rocks so much more than our poplist artists, whoever they are...
My true musical loves. The shadows. Moody blues. Gryphon. So judge me if you Will or want!
Susato? Fantastic. I love these guys.
Wonderful gentlemen....you brought back so many lovely memories :)
Thank you gentlemen for the lovely and masterful songs! I am thoroughly enjoying them in America, and wish I could come see you in England! Your music has been a constant companion for me while i work on editing my novel!
The Unquiet Grave. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Incredible!
