  • In today's episode of Rough Cuts we head out off grid camping towards Port Alberni and Tofino. We find a nice camping spot and try our best to survive the night by failing at making a fire and drinking instead!

Love the 1st gen. Campfire starting trick: Take that aluminum can you had, cut it in half. Fill with the gasoline and place under your Kindling tee pee. Light the gas with the torch. It will burn steady and slow. Its a lot safer and works like a charm.

Thanks for the tip! It didn't help all the wood we had was soaked.

18:20. Mountain Man quick tip. Use a few pieces of wood to build a staircase and walk the big block of wood onto the truck.

Glad you got the transfer case sorted. Pretty scary out in the middle of nowhere on a steep grade and loose your gears.

I definitely wasn't happy when it popped out of gear and I didn't know exactly why..she recovered quickly though. I think I've got my method down now with this trans and t case. T case in 4 low and then trans manually into 1 or 2 and she pulls uphill great. Pulled a steep grade on this trip in the second video and the trans heated up quite a bit..just had to keep an eye on it and give it a break at the top. She did great though.

@@OvensGarage I had a first gen for a decade and found the chassis flexes a lot and had a similar issue. The shift linkage mounts between the frame and transmission and is being pulled on when the chassis flexes under heavy load. An easy fix is switching to a shift cable.

@@Levi533 yeah I may have to do that down the road if I ever build an auto and put it in the truck

I've been on that gravel road before :) Great video! Ovens Garage I decided not to get my uncle 1997 Dodge Cummins 3/4 ton auto 4x4. Is that a common problem with the automatic trans? slips outta gear. I own a Cummins Power Belt Buckle. i think i paid 15 dollars for it. it says on the back Winters Associates Bloomington, Indiana.
