    Park on the backside of an island, particularly for those around world borders. You're a lot harder to spot behind the island than directly in front of it. It's also usually a lot easier to GTFO once you're done looting.

    Tbh I've been playing since Closed Beta and still do a few of these things.
    I just love my Firebombs, but I always use them to set ablaze enemy ships alongside the enemy players but I focus the ships first and try to catch the players only as a bonus. I'm weaker at PvP (which is why I'm here, I'm looking to get better) compared to my crewmates, so my role when engaging another ship is to sow chaos, get onto ships and lower anchors, engage enemy players to distract them from my crewmates who are better at PvP, etc. If you can get them in the right place, firebombs CAN be used effectively, and at the very least will waste the time of the enemy crews.
    Otherwise I cannon, I patch, I bail, I watch ladders... we've been playing together for a long time so we're a decently coordinated team. I'm also fond of using island cannons whenever possible to blindside an enemy ship from an angle they probably aren't expecting.
    I just need to get better at blocking, lol. xD

Galeon crews rarely move this clean, it's been a while since I've been on the sea's but this vid makes me want to hope back on my sloop and sample some of the new content. Nice video, it's dead on accurate, seriously people your ship should never be anchored ever.

    If I know I am not going to leave my ship before I engage an enemy, I like to keep a gunpowder barrel to open the fight with. I will never leave my ship alone with a gunpowder barrel though, and will always use it whether that be boarding the enemy ship or throwing it overboard before the canon balls start flying. Yeah that might be a bit risky, but I just find hitting a ship with a gunpowder barrel satisfying and worth the risk for me.

    I haven't watched the whole vid yet but my tip is if you have a sword especially on a sloop, go to that bottom level and charge your dash as soon as turn around at that barrel/stove and I guarantee you 90% of the time they will follow you and you will do 50 damage and/or have time to heal if needed because of the knockback
    Edit:I don't know how to spell garentee and fixed it

    Regarding gun barrels, I'd argue you could take them aboard (hide them below deck of on the crows nest) BUT, dont bother with regular ones. Stronghold gun barrels though, fetch a high price, so it's a risk vs reward.
    Having a lot of look onboard is always a risk, you might be attacked by a megalodon, its all about risk management, rather than mitigation.

  • @MongooseJakeGames

    I will add (this is genuinely a great video for tips btw) that quite simply there's lots of people trying this game out that have little interest in PvP, therefore they don't even try to practice it.
    Myself, I practice it pretty much only so I can defend my own ship against those pvp thirsty players that forgot about the whole rest of the game. I'm nearly level 60 on the main groups and still have yet to attack a ship, lol. I'm here to fish, chase down megs, sink skeley ships, track down captains, do forts, go on voyages, and tall tales. I'm not a pirate, lol I'm a explorer and adventurer!
    Now, all that said: Watching Phuzzybond and a few others like yourself has helped me in my two months go from brand new to at least able to fight off average players in a straight up fight. Only two things give me trouble now...
    -Vultures: Those who intentionally wait for you to be otherwise occupied (like the duo sloop that went in on me only after a meg and skeley ship were both on me) are always an issue for me when solo'ing. Even when my wife and I are sailing together, crews wait for us to go on islands and then attack our ship when they know that it's left alone. Really the simple thing to me is that the vulture type is scum. They just wait to sink a ship, not wanting a fight at all, but rather an easy sink. Most of the time they're not even after loot.
    -Full brig crews while I'm solo'ing on a sloop: Unless they're terrible, I still lose this one normally. One guy has to manage everything, while a 3 person brig can dedicate one person to repairs/bails, one to attacking with both cannon and repeat boarding, and the third can manage the navigation. Again, unless they are terrible and the solo player is very good, that's a sink (at least for me).
    I may never get amazing at PvP in Sea of Thieves, mainly because I'm not even here for that, I just want an enjoyable game with some nice adventures with friends or even while solo.

    I've gotta admit, I'm guilty of a couple of these, some previously, some currently. I got the Reaper outfit like everyone else, but I'm at least happy to say I only actively wore it for a couple days before going back to my regular Forsaken ensemble. (Though, on that note, I feel like it should be mentioned that wearing the Reaper outfit because it looks cool should not be frowned upon. Wearing it to look intimidating should, because it doesn't work. It's cosmetic, it's not a super suit. Wearing it doesn't make you a PvP God.) I also used to use anchor, but actually stopped upon watching one of your earlier videos on ship combat.
    Then there are things I didn't even know existed, like sword strafing when blocking, or FOV, which I didn't even know was editable until this video.
    Then again, it never really ends up mattering a whole lot, because whenever I get into a fight, it's usually near an island, and when I get in proximity to islands (especially outposts), my game tends to freeze and lag at the most critical times. And even when an island is already rendered, players attacking tend to reinvigorate the lag, so I don't even get a real chance to fight them.
    I probably should get a new computer, but I'm a poor boy, and though I technically have the funds to do so, it would sap them pretty hard to get a good PC.

    I don't wear a reaper costume...
    Unless I'm on a reaper emissary gallon where everyone else is wearing one, because standing out from the other three crew members usually tells your opponents "Aim for that one, their probably more experienced".
    Personally I rock the ashen curse aka "lamp shade mode" which does hinder my ability to hide, because other players will follow a glowing pirate like moths.

    What I never understood about the whole anchor discussion is: why not drop it to stop momentum and then just pull it up agains.
    I mean when you go on an island, not in combat.

    • @redgent7058
      @redgent7058 2 года назад +2

      There's nothing wrong with it. People just parrot that tactic without logic or reasoning. It is much quicker to drop the anchor and stop the ship where you want, raise sails, then raise the anchor again. Some people just hear something from someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about and then repeat it. But yeah, nitpicking at the sails just so you can slowly coast to your landing spot doesn't give you any real advantage. The real mistake is just leaving your anchor down so you can't escape quickly. As long as you don't do that you are good.

    • @ev6558
      @ev6558 9 месяцев назад

      Because you have to make the whole crew stop whatever they were doing and help raise the anchor for something that should have been a one person job. Anyone who considers themselves even "decent" at helm should be able to park the ship quickly without needing the anchor. Redgent is probably the kind of helm who sails directly at the island but thinks he's good at the game and knows better than Blurbs.

    About kegs that's just 50/50. Its high risk but also if u manage to blow up some other ship it's almost free win

    • @Lewzyd
      @Lewzyd 3 года назад +1

      Trust me, it's not worth it. If you've managed to keep kegs on your ship during a fight and not had them blown up, the players you've been up against have just been terrible at the game. Grab kegs when you know you'll be using them soon, otherwise not.

    • @kudeuszbruh9360
      @kudeuszbruh9360 3 года назад

      @@Lewzyd you get the point, but still your advise is good for new players who keep kegs without using them or doesn't know how to do it properly. Im not deny your Point of view, but my expierience show that there's some situations where kegs are very useful. Also, I hardly ever get one when I play solo. I agree in that case, it's too risky and doesn't matter how expierienced you are.

    • @Lewzyd

    • @apollofell3925
      @apollofell3925 2 года назад

      The key is *stragegy*. As an evasive maneuver, lifting the anchor as soon as it hits the bottom gives a forward sloop an advantage, unless the chasing ship can perfectly match the drop, it takes a minute to get back in range.
