Because of this documentary, I found yoga and it saved me. Thank you for posting this....I need to return to it now and again. Filming down here in Philadelphia, a walking channel to keep moving forward.
David Swenson and some other can do 6 series (the old days these was 4 series but they break the 3rd to two series and 4th in two more, that's why 6 in total now)
I bought the DVD as a kid way back when it was released - it’s still available & is called ‘Ashtanga, NY’ & is well worth watching. I wouldn’t have sought out a studio & commenced a practice that has meant so much to me had I not watched this back then. Enjoy!
Guru - 'dispenser of darkness' - touching the guru's feet means surrendering your ego. If that's Indian culture, then so is YOGA, and the Vedic foundation for "Seeking" starts by first dissolving the ME. The Asthanga yoga's 8-fold path towards the last stage of Samadhi (Advaitha) cannot be achieved with the baggage of the EGO displayed by some participants who said touching the Guru's feet and paying obeisance is not their culture. Hopefully they will realize this as they progress.
@@TonyJMX No, Sorry... Ma yoga practice is not my personal Interpretation... I just practice what Patanjali said... West Society, expecially American Society, distroyed the Essence of yoga! This is horrible...
Ashtanga Yoga comes from Guruji Pattabhi Jois, who studied with Krishnamacharya. Ashtanga means eight limbs, which is in direct correlation to Patanjali's teachings. Also I am sorry you feel this way about the American Society, I am a foreigner here and don't feel that way about them. Have a blessed day :)
It's from a documentary Ashtanga NYC. It's available for streaming on Netflix.

Can we have a list of all of the practitioners featured and seen? That would be amazing, I am recognizing many of my teachers here… ❤
