    Asanas are only 10% of Yoga. I believe one can achieve enlightenment without practicing the asanas but its a great tool. I first started meditating and then made my way to yoga. today I'm teaching yoga to others. however meditation is in my opinion the best part of yoga. namaste to all of you!!

      i agree so much, my main practice was all about the physical but it was only when i started to practice with complete attention that i noticed the minor changes happening. Today my main focus, although practising asana as well, is about the spiritual part of yoga. What made me feel this was when i started practising more Yin yoga and actually feeling and listening to my body's invitations to go deeper, rather than to force it. namaste to all
      Yoga did actually alter my life and continues to do so, for which i am so grateful

    Loved this documentary!♥️ I would loved to have seen more men and plus sized women represented though. As a plus sized woman who never thought she could do yoga, I decided to add it to my exercise routine to help heal myself from panick attacks and to manage the pain derived from changes in my hip joints and spine. Although I'm still at the very basic level, I am blown away at how I'm able to do the poses. I had failed at the 1 or 2 past attempts because I focused more on the discomfort and believed that the practice was only for slim, small bodies. I am totally loving it and loving myself more. I look forward to growing in and completely enjoying this journey😊

    Very beautiful, but...I would love to see people interviewed who are less flexible and do more 'basic' poses to show that the 'deepness' of yoga does not have to do with flexibility or strength (or outer beauty for that matter). It can be accessed by all bodies.

      ME TOO! This is a gorgeous documentary and very inspiring and I can connect to each person profiled. That said, where are the 40-, 50-, 60-something yogis? I'll never be as advanced as those seen here, so it would be less intimidating to see a couple of practitioners more like what I CAN aspire to achieve. Yes, I know yoga isn't competitive, per say, but I am human... That said, I'm so glad I viewed this!

    • @petruspachis4856

      Yoga is foremost about exercising and expanding the mind, not the body. The body follows the mind. Unless the mind is first stilled, the body cannot be. That's the lesson of spending even lifetimes perfecting yamas and niyamas - not simply becoming an external āsana practitioner, which is the product of the modern age of consumerism.
      Also, the idea that "āsana prepares the mind for meditation" is naive at best and foolish at worst. It falls into the category of modern yoga studios: "if we can at least get them to move and do asana, MAYBE then they will go deeper." Reality check: they don't. The Cult of the āsana is the biggest scam in the history of yoga.

    Yoga or union with yourself makes you understand how complex your body is and how it should be treated, most of the time we treat it rough and yet it stays with us( fully broken). There would come a time when you'll understand how you ill-treated it and would jump for healing and that's where yoga comes in, not only as a healer but as a deeper connector. It never fails to amuse us and we should never fail to continue it!!

    • @IcefireFitness
      @IcefireFitness 3 года назад +5

      When I was on holiday in Australia, I visited a Yoga Studio in Sydney. They allowed and had residents dogs in the studio. I'm not really a dog person and I was a little apprehensive to be honest at first. But the dogs were friendly, didn't bark and were so so sweet. I went to practises everyday for a week, early in the morning. Sometimes one of the dogs would come and lay down on my mat after I had laid it out and I had to wait for it to get up and move. At other times, I would be in a headstand and it'd come and lick my face (hahaha). Other times, he's just lay down next to me when I was doing a pose or laying down after practise in Savasana. Almost everyone who came to the studio came to enjoy and love the interaction with other people's dogs or the resident dogs. It taught mke that Yoga doesn't need to be solemn and quiet and silent. It doesnt' have to be anything. Everyone's practise is personal. As many people affirm, asana is only one branch of the 8 limbs of yoga (albeit the most common and popular limb) and for me, it serves a means to an end. It means so many different things for so many different people, so it's important to remember to respect other people's views and just relax and enjoy what it has to offer us personally.

    I'm disappointed that so many people feel its OK to critique the physique of the yogi in this film.
    Yes yoga is for 'every-body' but also remember that body positivity is not exclusive to one shape or another.

    • @waevataytay
      @waevataytay Год назад +1

      I did not see people critique physique of the yogi, what I saw was people asking for inclusivity of the physical body, you cannot deny that there is only one type in this video. This is a beautiful documentary no doubt but so were many programs on the TV in the early days!!! before inclusivity was a thing so most of us did not see ourselves on the TV or could not relate coz they were pretty slim beautiful ppl and if u were any different you prolly saw them in smaller roles, just an example. There is nothin wrong in askin for inclusivity. It does not in any sense mean less of the ppl in the video or the documentary itself! Especially yoga is inclusive of gender, colour, body type, race, age which does not show here!

It was hard at first because i tought all my muscles would go away and i will never have the body i want and so on. But it did not serve my any longer so i decided to do less and do yoga. I love yoga, yin yoga. When i do yoga i don't think about anything for a full hour. I love the challenge and i feel so happy and zen after it. I am just beginning but i think i will love the progress inside and outside. Namaste!

    I do see what a lot of these comments are about. Being a true yogi does not mean you have to do lots of impressive poses and look beautiful. It can be as simple as being connected. Sitting still. Living with integrity and kindness. This video can make it seem as though without mastering lots of asanas you can't attain the highest state of consciousness and that simply is not true

    V impressive, physical yoga is the beginning, later one should make efforts to concentrate on breath,read spiritual books, keep spiritual company, then learn meditation, in meditation we should try to slow down our thought process, ultimately we should experience dead silence within and experience deep peace, from there door to samadhi is opened, which is the ultimate blessing , how do we know that we attained samadhi ?, when we are able to love and respect everyone unconditionally, when our intrinsic wisdom is awakened, natural attraction for righteousness and many more manifestations - - -

    This is so inspiring and it really hit home and hard for me emotionally..I couldn't stop but to release the ache in my heart I've held for a while and let go..I have been practicing on and off for the past 4 years or so but I was not ready mentally. I was the type that if I couldn't get it right the first time or master it the first time, I was not going to do it. Now if I knew I could do it, I had to perfect it now, at this moment, today! This hindered my practice because I did not forgive my body and I didn't allow it to give me what I needed for the day. I did not have the patience to take it to the journey. I got really serious about it about a few months ago and this time I enjoy it so more because I'm doing it for me and if I couldn't get deep in my backbend today, I am ok with that because I know I can get deeper tomorrow 😊 yoga is definitely a journey and it aligns us spiritually along side the physical, mental and emotional aspect. Yoga brings me a sense of joy and excitement different from what my husband and children give me..it is me, my true self equally yolked with the divine.😍🙏🏾

    Aline Fernandes was doing sport since her childhood, became a model, was searching for meaning of life what led her to yoga. Deepika Mehta was an active climber, had an accident, found heeling through yoga. Hayley Cutler did sports since her childhood, was very active, after University she lost herself in business and found her new path in yoga. Jessica Olie was a swimmer, she wasn't flexible at all (couldn't touch her toes) , during her studies (some difficult times) she got introduced to yoga. Kino MacGregor after she moved to NYC had some ups and downs, was fighting her depression with yoga. Laruga was always very active, interested in spirituality what led her to yoga. They all live yoga, study yoga and practice yoga every day. Not everybody can reach their level, but everybody can try. The younger, the better. It's all about your will to reach the best, for you, possible level. All the best!

    • @heathermcclean7408
      @heathermcclean7408 4 года назад +10

      EXACTLY!! Yoga is beneficial for ALL body shapes and sizes, abilities, strengths, etc. >> yoga is breath and movement according to ones' own breath cycle (ex. down regulation vs. up regulation--depending what one wants!) and ones' own physical, mental and emotional/spiritual 'edge' if you will. With consistent practice growth is inevitable:) #accessibleToEveryone

      Sure , they don't need , but will be a real challenge for them . Yoga means union - body, soul and spirit in one , so in the begining they will feel very uncomfortable in some asanas . But that's the beauty of yoga , it's a journey ! :)

    Let's begin with the obvious:
    1) The production values in this advert-mentary are absolutely gorgeous. Both the production crew and the yogis are to be commended.
    2) This is, ultimately, a promotional video for an activewear company so in a visual medium and to attract their target market, young attractive females are mostly featured.
    3) In recent years, the concept of cultural appropriation is slowly gaining traction. In years to come, this video might well be held up as exhibit A for the prosecution.
    4) The counter argument is, that if videos such as this, indirectly help to spread a discipline that brings both physical and psychological benefits to its practitioners then what right does anybody have to climb aboard their self-righteous, intellectual high-horse and tut-tut the popularity of yoga amongst white, middle-class western females?
    5) Here's what I reckon Dharma Bums should have done. This video should be imbedded in their own website - but not made publicly accessible on youtube. That way, the advertisement / documentary distinction would have been more clear and the exploitation of yoga debate might not developed to the extent it did.
    6) Another video could have been produced. An extended or alternate version to this one. The alternate video could have featured a wider demographic cross-section and could have been the one that was posted to RUclips.
