Its not that easy in those countries. In those countries once you are are in a miserable hole you're stuck there for Life unless you get to immigrate to a different country. She knows it so she knows this is her entire life now.
When she said her child shall not be like her in the future and study well, I cried. That’s probably what her mom also wished for her future. I wish them the best.
All of you saying the interviewer is horrible for smiling at the girl, ever considered that maybe she did that to seem more comforting, reassure the girl that she can go on with her story? It's common in Asia to give a small smile when someone is sharing their personal experience with you, not to laugh at them, but to show that you are following with what they are saying and to appear friendlier. Customs aren't the same everywhere
Yea totally. In fact, when I first came to America, I was uncomfortable with the fact that I had to hug everyone I met, but I still did it cuz they were going for one and I didn’t want to be rude. Culture is different everywhere.

population control yeah bc that worked real well for China and Japan who killed millions of full term babies and are now dealing with an over population of males and an increasing aging country... 🙄 Just teach sex Ed, allow family planning and contraception, and better public health overall.
It’s only part of it. They are living in poverty they don’t have access/can’t afford to buy contraceptions. Also if someone gets pregnant in poor families they would rather keep the baby so their children can help provide for the family when they grow up
Dats Alegria In the Philippines, many children were already taught what’s good and what’s bad, most of our parents have work, or on the farm if you live in the provinces. So maybe the boyfriend was out of control
I think, its not the lack of sexual education at all but the freedom and parental negligence.. We at the education sector are following a strict curriculum which includes sex education, talking about contraceptives and the risks of teenage pregnancies. Teens and children in the philippines are very well protected (legally) that they become untouchable. Very minimal discipline towards the kids would result to criminal charges. You can't just impose punishments or sanctions (physical or oral) whenever they commit something wrong, ended up tolerating them. Its hard, really hard to discipline kids nowaday, especially here in the ph.

Talking about giving the grandson a good life and hoping her daughter achieves the bare minimum of finishing high school and getting a job to support her son was kind of sad I thought . She deserves a good life too doesn't she? And saying the son shouldn't have to pay for her mistakes ? What was the mistake ? Not having an abortion? Loving her child ? Smh
That isn't supposed to be what's been done, the mother needs to teach the kid a lesson,if you would mind, may you want your mother work double to earn more money just for your mistake of having a baby?

I saw a comment by Jocelyn Alvarez, which I completely agree with. the topic of sex is regarded as taboo by the older generation in the Philippines. I think that goes hand-in-hand with (as far as I know) why sex education in the Philippines is only being taught at college, which I think isn't early enough. as part-Filipino, I'm aware the majority of the native Filipino demographic suffers from poverty. unless we alter the teaching system to teach sex education earlier, Filipinos who can't end up paying for college won't be as educated about sexual intercourse. at this point, I see an cycle of: not being able to afford education, which leads to a lack of sex education, thus leading to the poor to become poorer as a result of having children, and ends up being a practice that goes on, and on and on.
For those wondering why the interviewer did not hug/comfort the girl when she was crying, this is Philippines. Exactly. The Catholic chirch has so much to answer for. Sex Ed is not taught here in the Philippines because of the catholic church. It is a disgrace to humanity.
Poverty is a major factor, but sex is a taboo subject here, and sex education is seen as something that would promote promiscuity, when it is in fact the opposite. The Catholic Church (as is evident in many predominantly Catholic countries) strongly opposes it, and so we end up acting like sexless, clueless perverts with a facade of prudishness. And since kids grow up not knowing what sex is and how to deal with it, like kids they just leave everything to chance. Ignorance isn't always bliss, especially when consequences are dire.

The age of sexual consent in the Phillipines is "12 years old". Yes, it's quite alarming. So, technically, an older adult can rape a 12 year old girl/boy and claim it was consensual..but I digress. Part of the blame for teenage pregnancy can be attributed to the government as well as its culture. It is very difficult to help a society that doesn't want to change or combat it's own societal issues.
Well. You really didn't do research on how that law works about consent about sex, consensual rape and etc. Go come back when you're more knowledgeable. But yeah, it's also the government's fault for not making a law about this.
T. C. yeah true, but most people don’t know about it and those who do don’t care anyways. Only 3% of our GDP goes towards education in our country, we need to raise it, build more schools for more people, have proper sexual education. Overpopulation is a problem here in phil, if we keep making babies, it only makes it worse. You see, metro Manila is over 240 miles in area, and houses 24 million people. Tokyo Metro Area is over 5000 miles in area, and houses 38 million people. Just shows how dense in population Manila is from all the shantytowns and slums :(
First off.... most teen pregnancies are from kids... not an adult and kid. Also age of consent and rape are two VERY different things. And for the majority of the world the age of consent is 12yo and under... it is only the western countries (for the most part) that have a 16yo and up age of consent. (And teen pregnancy is highest in western countries and/or from western men)
of course she is... its a failed state, you cant rely on anyone else but your family, family bonds there are incredible strong, in some ways the way the look after each other makes me feel they are richer than people in rich countries whose families could care less about each other.

Here in the Philippines, the reason why the interviewer is smiling is to comfort the girl and it's also a sign which means "it's gonna be ok, don't worry" , just because some people smile when someone's talking about their personal life doesn't mean they're heartless, especially since the girl is talking about her personal life, the interviewer just wants to have an expression that's calm and comforting . If i were that girl I wont find that offending at all. It's also the culture here in the Philippines. Some people smile, some people will have a worried look or a serious expression, it depends on what place you are born :> God Bless ❤️

@population control I never claimed it wasn't a multifaceted issue, but more wanted to encourage using priveledge to make positive change within someone's own community. As for the Philippines, I mean, actual sex education and measures to tackle poverty would be the starting place I'd suggest, rather than, honestly, whatever the hell you're suggesting.
@population control More, current sex education is certainly not superficial, I can assure you of that. You faux intellectuallism is getting... look, I'm just tired of seeing a lot of hot air on RUclips. Instead of sparring with me, insisting I'm uninformed, ridiculous, naive, why don't you go and work towards actually helping people and resolving issues like this in your community? There are thousands of projects out there that work with communities to help alliviate poverty and it's associated issues, with tried, tested and proven methods. Or did you just want to make ominous and vague statements and argue, pointlessly, self-aggrandisingly, with someone on the internet?
Does everyone forget that this is an interview? It has multiple cuts and edits, and if the girl didn’t want to do this interview she wouldn’t be sitting there and she also would reject questions. I wish someone could explain to this girl that her life isn’t over. She has a beautiful baby. I wish someone would comfort her an help her she seems so broken. So sad to watch her cry so much. Bless her
Her life was over when she was born with a few exceptions, people die there from common infections as they cant buy anti biotics to treat it, you can have a hit done on someone for 20 US dollars, life is cheap there...the country is a big prison most are doomed to repeat the cycle and never leave.... huge waste of human potential, go to cambodia, laos, burma they are even more poor but they seem to achieve more than filipinos with their meagre resources, filipinos mostly don't want to work, most the guys are unemployed, drink all day, gamble, fight and get girls pregnant, most families incomes are derived by the women...

😢
The lack of sexual education has a lot to do with this I’m sure.
And lack of parental guidance too
In the case of Philippines I think it's lack of parental control and over freedom..leads to cases like this
It’s only part of it.

I saw a comment by Jocelyn Alvarez, which I completely agree with. the topic of sex is regarded as taboo by the older generation in the Philippines. as part-Filipino, I'm aware the majority of the native Filipino demographic suffers from poverty. unless we alter the teaching system to teach sex education earlier, Filipinos who can't end up paying for college won't be as educated about sexual intercourse.
at this point, I see an cycle of: not being able to afford education, which leads to a lack of sex education, thus leading to the poor to become poorer as a result of having children, and ends up being a practice that goes on, and on and on.

@@marlapauli381 I'll just summarize things for you.
Filipinos are known for their hospitality, and that is why they are demanded in different countries for different jobs, especially in caregiving and housekeeping. There are many more good side but I don't think you want to know it. Jk.
But if you just want to know the bad side, there's plenty of them. There's poverty on the line, with poor people making non-stop production of children but can't afford to give a proper living. The government sucks every administration and brings the country in the end line. The streets are full of gossipers that could really ruin you and your self esteem. Seems like a bad combination of a lack of sex ed and living in abject poverty.

But yeah, it's also the government's fault for not making a law about this.

yeah true, but most people don’t know about it and those who do don’t care anyways. Just shows how dense in population Manila is from all the shantytowns and slums

She got pregnant by a guy her age
First off.... most teen pregnancies are from kids... not an adult and kid.
Also age of consent and rape are two VERY different things.
And for the majority of the world the age of consent is 12yo and under... it is only the western countries (for the most part) that have a 16yo and up age of consent. (And teen pregnancy is highest in western countries and/or from western men)
I'm so glad the grandmother is sticking by her daughter.
of course she is... its a failed state, you cant rely on anyone else but your family, family bonds there are incredible strong, in some ways the way the look after each other makes me feel they are richer than people in rich countries whose families could care less about each other.
I truly encourage parents to have an open discussion about sex with children as young as 10 years old because you can come upon ANYTHING on the Internet. If not from the Internet, it is from peers.
It is scary when young children have access to these information without knowing the consequences of it.

Some people smile, some people will have a worried look or a serious expression, it depends on what place you are born
