- One of my favorite girl group records. The McKinleys were two sisters, Sheila and Jeanette, from Edinburgh, Scotland. Did not chart nationally in Billboard, but charted locally in the Top 40 in Springfield, Massachusetts in June 1964, the Top 40 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Top 90 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Top 40 in Windsor, Ontario and the Top 60 in Detroit, Michigan. Written by John Carter and Ken Lewis. B-side is "A Million Miles Away".
Two pretty Scottish lassies with good voices. And songwriters don't come much better than Carter and Lewis.
Love this!! I had the pleasure of playing bass for them at the Star Club in December 1967!!
its sad when a good song by two good voices never got in the top twenty enjoyed this
This duo deserved a much better fate. Great vocals and great production. They did not know that their single had been released outside the UK until I contacted Sheila when I was writing my book about the UK's "other" recording groups of the 60's in which they are included. It also hit #40 in a couple of Canadian markets as well. Great duo.
i think these good ole songs will bring humanity back to its sences thnx for posting
still waiting, haha
I also had the pleasure of backing Sheila and Jeanette many times in the UK. Lovely ladies and beautiful harmonies.
They do say that the best harmonies come from the same family. I always hoped they would go to the top in the UK.
I think poor management didn't help. I hope Jeanette is keeping well.
I never heard this song before, nor have I heard of the singers. Was not played here in New York when I was a teen. Good song.
R.I.P. Sheila ! You had a great voicr
They were so excellent. I wish there was a CD of all of their singles.
Been a masive fan of American Girl Group records since they were popular back in the 60's. The UK didn't often capture that American Sound, and many attempts where poor copys - this - however is spot on!
Very Wall of Sound sounding. Great and thanks for posting.
Fantastic finding this on here!!
My fiancée Clare is a niece of Sheila and Jeanette so even more special for her to hear this and see that fab picture :o)
Please send my regards to Jeanette, and tell her that I love their voices on the Palace, Ashton and Lord album Malice in Wonderland. And thank you for Jeanette and Sheila's music and their voices. Most sincerily wishes from Morten Leerbech (aus) Denmark.
They sound like California girls! Great tunes!

REMEMBER SEEING THEM ON READY STEADY GO SINGING IT, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A TOP TEN HIT. I REALLY LIKED THE SONG WAS PLEASED TO BE ABLE SEE THIS ON YOU TUBE. SORRY THAT ONE OF THEM HAD RECENTLY PASSED AWAY
Great Song!!!
Great girl group sound! The flip side is different but also excellent. Thanks for this and all you post.
They performed a lot in Germany and both became very successful here in the 70s. Sheila (left) as a member of THE LES HUMPHRIES SINGERS (singing lead on many tracks) and Jeanny as part of the duo THE WINDOWS ! Their biggest hit HOW DO YOU DO ? was a cover of the dutch hit from Mouth & MacNeal. you can find video clips here on youtube and audio of Sheila's AMAZING GRACE with The Les Humphries Singers
Good one, Lime. Thanks for posting and sharing this one.
