    As a former owner of a 2020 Himalayan, this is the first bike I've been genuinely excited for, ever. I loved my Himalayan, but it just needed more OOMPH for UK motorways. I just hope they haven't taken away that sense of purpose and steadiness that the original had.

    It's a great time to be in the market for a 400-500cc dual-sport/on-off/small adv (which is imo one of the most sensible categories in the market). Apart for the Himalayan, there are also the Chinese; the Kove 450 has some reputation and here in Greece the Voge 300 Rally has been selling well. If I'm not mistaken these days at EICMA Benelli, CFMoto, Zontes, all unveiled some similar bikes. Apart from KTM which has the pricier 390ADV, the other big manufactures are kind of missing out (Kawasaki had that splendid Versys 300, shame they didn't go anywhere with that)

    I'm keeping my now 'old' Himalayan, I like simple things, that's why I bought it. But with a liquid cooled DOHC engine, ride-by-wire and a handful of ride modes the new Himalayan is no longer simple, it's just like all the rest in this category.

    • @defylifeadventure
      @defylifeadventure 11 месяцев назад +10

      I understand, yet the good news is electronics fail less in general than mechanical items. There's a good reason why bikes (in general) moved away from things like points ignition to CDI. Or mechanical fuel pumps to electric ones.

    • @olethorhermansen5696
      @olethorhermansen5696 11 месяцев назад +6

      @@defylifeadventure The new Himalayan is a departure from what has so far been a successful formula for Royal Enfield: simple, do-it-yourself-friendly motorcycles at attractive prices. We will have to see about the price, but with double overhead cams and a lot of electronics in addition to the electronic ignition and fuel injection that all modern bikes have, this one is not do-it-yourself-friendly. It will be interesting to see what the sales figures are going to be, I suspect that RE may find them to be disappointing, but we'll see. The old Himalayan didn't really have any direct competitors, the new one does.

This is going to be the best overlander with sufficient power and features. It is going to be a guaranteed hit in India and that is going to give RE the buffer to wait an year or do for this to pick up sales RoW. The only other bike that can spoil the party for RE in India is the Hero xpulse 400. You guys do not know the brand, but her builds the cheapest to run motorcycles anywhere. It seems like a capable bike but price and reliability are the key points for me. I own a 411 Himalayan and I don't think it's a coincidence you see a lot for sale at about the 5k miles mark. I have had lots of little teething issues with my bike whereby it sort of feels like you have to finish building the bike for Enfield as components come loose or fail over the first few thousand miles. Steering head bearings for example shouldn't be going at 4k miles - they were clearly not greased properly in the factory and then also over-torqued, this is a pretty common issue for the Himalayan, another is the swing arm pivot seizing up but thankfully I nipped that in the bud on my bike.

    • @billwiley7216
      @billwiley7216 11 месяцев назад

      Sounds like the common Chinese bike issues of poor assembly and lack of proper lubrication.
      You can buy a Chinese bike cheap and if you like to tinker and do not mind taking much of the bike apart to lube and adjust torque then they are fine.
      But if you want to buy and ride with a much better chance on having no issues then you need to look elsewhere in most cases.

    • @jarjarbinks3193
      @jarjarbinks3193 11 месяцев назад

      Even products from the so-called "reliable" brands have had certain parts/components prematurely go bad. There are also a lot of RE Himalayans doing just fine well after 10+k miles. Some KTM models have far more lousy/costly maintenance issues. Even Itchyboots faced more issues with other bikes than the first Himmy she had.

    The old ones will be flogged off cheaper ,to make room for these new versions . My advice ,is to grab one of the old stock , & give this new 452 engine version a few years to prove itself for reliability ,before laying any bunce out for the new model . I don’t see the point of unnecessary nerdy tech like fly by wire crap on an adventure bike ,that’s going to be ridden ,miles from civilisation . The less tech the less to go wrong & cause potential issues ,in the arse - end of nowhere & leave the rider stranded ,or waiting ages for parts to be sent to nearest civilisation . All that was needed was a few more ccs & hp for , the odd section of motorway riding at 70 odd mph if required .

Will be interesting to see what the CF MOTO 450 twin comes in at too... apparently lighter but has more stuff as standard... to 400-500 adventure bike segment is proving to be an interesting one!

      Where I live they say it will be out in a year which is ridiculous. I’ll have to go for something else. That new Triumph 400 scrambler might be it but I’d prefer the RE. They need to get it out quicker. Also, if they remove the 411 version ( which they will, apparently) then the new one will replace it ( obviously) and I think this will affect people’s perception of the value represented in the new price. It can’t be hugely more.

    Well I ride RE because of the simplicity and ease of maintenance and parts accessibility .I have been waiting and am now disappointed . I refuse to accept that a 40 h.p. bike needs rider modes.And ride by wire is so far removed from ADV requirements to be reliable that I will not even try the bike out.Instead I will put a carb and the 462 overbore kit on my 2019 thank you.I will be at 35 h.p. at a lower rpm and have more torque. 6 gears would be nice I admit but if 1st is not lower and 6th higher it is not a huge gain.I have the Hitchcocks cam freeflow air filter and exhaust that put's me at 30 h.p. and right at 30 ft.lbs. Switching to the carb now would only get me better simplicity control of tune and yes reliability.I already have EFI fueling issues which i would not have with a carb. But add the Overbore kit and then I can really tune to make use of the displacement. I have six bikes .The Yamaha with a carb comes in second with fuel delivery reliability .First goes to my 1995 Enfield Bullet 500 with a simple round slide mikcarb.And points ignition.It starts by kickstart in the snow and freezing cold .When the EFI bikes will not and I have to wear out the starter on the Yamaha.

    I wonder what the scope is for weight reduction. Doe it come with a a LiFePO4 battery? if not there's a 2.5kg weight saving. Removal of of the crash bars, which is weight hight up, would likely be another 2-3kg saved. Centre stand (some people prefer just a trail stand), would save another 2kg, though that is weight download so not as noticeable difference.

    What i hate about this bike, and other inexpensive bikes. It's not specifically this bike and it's nothing royal enfield or other brands can fix. Is buying second hand ones. I see 2022 Himalayans with 20k miles selling for £500 less than a brand new bike. This is the biker "mines is more special" mentality which ruins the used market. It's the same with the cb500x. 2 year old bikes with 20k miles selling for £500 to £1000 less than a brand new bike. This is a good thing because, the bikes hold their value. I'm torn between buying a second hand cb500x or a brand new himalayan. Because the prices are so close to a brand new bike, I don't really know what to do... £500 is a lot of money when you are spending £5k.

Bikes which are made for off road should have the capability to ride in 3rd gear at 3000rpm. I see most of them in second gear even at 30kmph. Near to 20kmph always on first gear. I feel it's bothersome to ride with such a gear ratio especially in such difficult road conditions. This is my point of view. Correct me if I am wrong.
