Here are the best common practices for weight gain: Do a gym workout 3-4 days a week with a day off in between each (while consuming plenty of calories). This is plenty of training to promote muscle growth and weight gain. Long story short: pick up a heavy weight in the gym 3-4 days a week for an hour.👍

Hello Ronan, what can we do to grow legs (specially thin calves) while loosing weight in the rest of the body? This is a problem too common, when someone doesn't have a proportional body. But I don't see any expert addressing it.

Once a again a great video 👍🏻 *Question:* is there something I do for a natural protein shake ? My weight: 81 kg Height: 5'9 1/2 Top Bench press weight: 127 kg full range of motion ( chest touch ) Overall strong enough for an average natural bodybuilder 🙂 *want to gain at least 5 kg of muscle weight*
Hey, Ronan here. Looks like you're pretty far in the muscle building journey then :) Gaining more muscle is for sure possible but the process just takes longer now. Still, the same steps that I talk about in this video apply. What you want to keep an eye on is to bring your calories up but not too much, so that you gain about 0.5% to 1% of body weight per month (not week). This seems to be an optimal weight that maximizes muscle growth and minimizes fat gain. But again, it's a slow process. So it's easier to check whether you're going forward if you keep being able to progressively overload in your training. When you refer to a natural protein shake, what exactly do you mean?
@@theenlightenedone1283 it may be a good idea trying a whey protein if you can have dairy. If you want something with vegan ingredients only, then you can find great vegan blends as well. If you want to make your own, there are some tutorials on youtube showing how to do it with mixing seeds, although the final product will be lower in protein than a vegan blend most likely because it'll have a higher amount of fats and carbs.
I have lost all my body fat by changing my diet and changing my job to a landscape gardener. I now want to gain weight/ muscle. I am worried though about adding all the calories that you suggest as I don’t have lots of time to exercise and I end up putting weight back on as fat. If I have a high protein diet can this still become fat if I don’t burn enough calories?
Hi Nigel, Ronan here. The exercise strategy here is essential to turn extra calories into muscle and not fat. If you can’t do strength training then it’s way more likely that the weight gain will come as fat. If you can’t do strength training for now, then it may be a good idea to maintain your body weight rather than gaining - have you considered that? Otherwise, it’ll be helpful to try and make some time for strength training. Then, if you make sure you’re gaining weight slowly, around 1% or your current weight per month, and if your strength keep on going up, it’s likely that you’re gaining mostly muscle mass.
Thanks for being kind enough to take the time out to reply to my message. Just one more thing if you don’t mind. Can you tell me ( only approximately ) how much strength training per week should I expect to have to do to turn the excess calories into muscle. I haven’t increased my junk food intake but I have been eating high protein foods. I know everyone is different but I am just trying to gauge if I can dedicate the hours. Thanks for your kind assistance.
hahaha I can imagine the situation. That's a point to Marwah, she's the master behind the video editing process and she's the one who chose the song to that moment :D
Hi Shivam, good to see you here again :) I suppose that you're asking whether exercising during the fasting time of your intermittent fasting is good or bad, right? If that is the question, then the answer is that there are no problems in exercising fasted if you feel good and energized. For some people, they don't feel at their best in this state and so it's best to exercise after a meal. But if you feel you can exercise well, then by all means it's a good thing. It won't help you burn more fat overall just because you're fasted though, which is something a lot of people still believe in. And if you lift heavy weights fasted, then it's a good idea to have a meal rich in protein after that to aid in your muscle recovery. If you're doing a cardio session fasted, then there's no need to eat something right after if you don't feel like it.
Hey Ronan, looking to the video a little doubt go out for me. There are many "gurus" out there saying that snack it's not good for our health. This is real or is just what type of food we use to snack...
Hey John Mario, good to see you here as always :) there’s no rule that works for everyone when it comes to snacking. It’s good for some people and not helpful for other. It depends on whether or not it helps you get closer to your goals. For example, if someone is trying to gain weight and they see that having 3 meals feels like too much food at one sitting and because of that they can’t gain weight, then having snacks in between can help. But if the same person see snack as an opportunity to eat some foods they honestly don’t want but are tempted to, and then they feel bad or regret that, then snacking is not helping. Makes sense?
@@Mindvalley I understand! Another think that I have seen out there is that we can only absorb certain amount of protein per meal. Is this right? I thought that I see that we can only absorb like 40 effective grams of protein per meal. Is this true?

Hi Aryan, Ronan here. If you're skinny it's probably a better idea to go towards building muscle. If you're a beginner on strength training, then you'll see that you can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. If you gain weight slowly, or even gain strength while maintaining your weight you can be building muscle and accumulating no fat in the process. Then, if you get to a certain body fat percentage (around 15-18% for men and 20-23% for women) then you can steer your nutrition towards burning fat. Makes sense?
@@Mindvalley Thankyou! It was a great help, cause my focus was getting divided, now i ll put it all on gaining muscle mass, once again thankyou, you are amazing to read so many comments and answering them:)

Hey Faizan, Ronan here. Usually, what this means is that even though you have a bodyweight that is not high, your body currently has too little muscle mass in comparison to fat mass. The good news is that this is not hard to change. Your focus should be on heavy compound strength training exercises. Learn them well and start getting stronger on each over time. On the nutrition side, you can focus on having more protein and fibers (search my video about burning belly fat for more on that) and make sure that overall you're not gaining weight too fast. If you're maintaining your body weight but getting stronger in your compound lifting exercises over a few months that's a good sign that you're burning fat and building muscle at the same time.
Eat more, reduce cardio or zero cardio and get enough sleep ( 7-9hours per night). And do weights at least 4x Times a week or calisthenics. I suggest both. I hope that helps.
You bet, Harsh. Genetics say a lot about how fast, how much, and how well someone can gain weight. But it's not the only determinator, it doesn't put you in a space you can't move from. It'll be easier for some people to gain weight who have a genetic advantage for that but you can do so too even if your genetics are not optimal in this sense through your training, nutrition, and sleep. Makes sense?
