I’ve heard that the humidity can affect this, is this true? If so, can you explain a little more to help me know what is too humid and what is good, or if any other temperature things affect it?
Spray at temperature around 18C ~ 26C. Humidity should be under 40% idealy but I did spray in humidity 50%. Humidity can cause shininess and MSC to "cloud" in some spots of the doll. Also spray outside and away from pets or people if you can. See the wind direction and spray in a way its not blowing into you. Leave to dry there. Dont bring into home until its dry if you can.
Depending on the humidity. I leave the head for around 15-20 minutes to dry after each layer, and around 40-60 min before painting to it. So If I prepare the head for the first painting layer, I spray 1 layer, wait 15-20 minutes, spray another one, wait another 15-20 minutes and if I spray again I wait 40-60 minutes before painting on the first paint layer, so around 1,5 hours. This might vary on the thickness of your spraying layer, but I recommend spraying thin layers, not a lot at once.
Is it mandatory to add a layer of Mr super clear before painting? I painted a monster High doll without using it first, will I need to restart? Thank you!
Depending on the weather, I leave 30-60 minutes of drying time (between the fixing layers after the paint). The very first 2-3 spraying layer however is a bit different. I spray those layers every 10-20 minutes and leave them drying for 1 hour/1.5hour
@@meenapreston5012 what kind of dirt do you want to clean? You need to be careful and don't get any dirt on the face. This is like cleaning sealed paintings. You never know when you ruin it🤔 sometimes I'm spraying water tobthe dolls' hair to restyle them and some water drops are landing on the face too, but I dry them up fast, so those are not hurting the face. I think that an actual "cleaning" might ruin the faceup tho.
@meenapreston5012 Oh, no, that would not hurt the face, just try to soak up fast, because the soapy water might react with the sealant if you keep it on the face longer:)
Hi, thanks for this video. i am starting on my doll repaint journey and watching as many videos and tutorials as i can. I noticed you're the only one who sands the doll face before spraying. Is this really necessary? I plan to repaint only Barbie dolls and i think they are too small for sanding. Is it okay if I not sand them? Thanks!
Blythe dolls have a different type of material, not vinyl like Barbie's head. You don't need to sand Barbie, Monster High, etc heads, but it was a great question!:) I have many videos for Monster High dolls too, I recommend those to you instead of my Blythe doll tutorials 🤗
@@unniedolls Wow, thank you so much! Coz tbh, i'm getting tired watching so many vids. And most of the time, my questions aren't really getting answered. So being able to ask an expert like you directly would be a huge help! I hope you don't mind if i shoot my first questions now. Can you blend 2 (or more) watercolor pencil colors on a particular area? Same question for the soft pastels. Can you blend 2 colors on the surface of the doll? I ask this because I don't seem to have the color I need in the sets I bought. Because I'll be doing a character that does not wear makeup and I really do not know how i'll create the color for the lips. Thanks in advance!
The mask is not that expensive and it will last you for years!! You just have to change the filters, but I usually keep them up for 1,5-2 years. That's enough for lots of dolls!
Which website? The website I recommend sells a can of Mr. Super Clear UV Cut for €13 and he is not shipping outside of the EU. So maybe you see €1000 only if you are not living in the EU, so it is discouraging you to buy.
yes, it makes to be permanent. However, I don't recommend these dolls for children, because it is permanent for adults who can take care of these dolls, but children are playing with them too much, bathing with them, etc, so in that case the spray can't hold that well, children can scratch the face easily.
Using regular sprays might be causing yellowing on the head, especially if you keep the doll in a bright/sunny room. The UV version protects the head better from yellowing. I only use the UV version and I just saw a photo of my old work from 8 years ago. Someone bought it from the first owner and the new owner sent me a photo. There is no yellowing at all!! I was amazed, the doll looked like when I sold it. I know that the UV version is a bit more expensive, but if you want that your work will be beautiful after 6-8 years too, and be quality work, you must have to use the UV version of the spray!
how fine is the sanding sponge you're using? and what store would sell them? I've been trying to find the right grit(?) if that makes sense but so far they seem to harsh for a faceplate
I recommend watching my "Tools and materials" video. There you can see everything I use. I usually use 400 grit sandpaper to sand off the first layer, then I used a sponge that has 600 grit. The last step is a white magic sponge when I smooth out everything. this is the video I mentioned to you ruclips.net/video/IE6JUnUY6To/видео.html
I'm using very fine sponges and sanding paper, so they disappear by sanding. You need to sand for hours to get a smooth result. First remove the deeper ones with 300-400grit, then use a 600grit sandpaper/sanding sponge, after that, you can use a 1000grit sandpaper/sponge or a white magic sponge, that will really smoothen the surface in the end.
Only for plastic and resin (not for vinyl like Barbie/Monster High) I can recommend Liquitex Matte Varnish or Tamiya, but Mr. Super Clear is much better than those!! Not surprised why Mr. Super Clear is the most used spray sealant, simply because it is the best. Unfortunately not everyone can get access to it, but if you can, please use that! If you have an airbrush, there are techniques to make your own sealant, some people made a video about it already.
You spray onto the clean surface, so the paint can stick to the surface after the spray has dried. Then you can repeat the spraying/painting progress if you want a better result (1 layer of paint is usually not enough for a clean and beautiful result).

MSC is safe after drying, children can play with it. However, custom dolls become a piece of art after customization, they are not meant for children to play with. Some children are a bit aggressive with dolls, so they can't be gentle with the head and faceup. If you buy a custom doll for a child, they might ruin the new face fast.

En el video dice que el brillo se debería ir cuando el sellante se seque a menos que uses uno brillante, creo que el barniz no se seca

As the name says, the UV-Cut has a UV filter, so the dolls won't get yellowy after a short period of time.
