Thanks for giving my Bike a good review. Only difference is I have Carlinie beach bars on my bike. They are wider than normal, but give such a great grip on the road, 35 to 150. I will never sell my 2009 softail custom. It' mine.

The Softail engine is smoother because it has 2x balancer shafts (but it's solidly mounted to the frame). Whereas the Dyna engines don't have the balancer shafts, but are rubber mounted in the frame. Hence the difference in feeling. That being said, if you can get a chance to ride an Evo FXR framed bike, jump on it! The FXR was designed by Eric Buell when he was a young engineer at Harley, and is famous for how well it handles! :)

mictho100 Thanks. I explain the differences between Dynas and softails in another video. Shame about what happened to Eric Buell, but hopefully I'll get to ride one of his bikes one day.

You're the man Bennie, great review as always!

I love my 02 softail. These softails are actually longer than your road kings and Ultras and for the year have the same gear ratio and are just as smooth and sit up higher in the front.

Oh so you don't think this is me making another fake Harley video then? lol

This video looks legitimate. So did you make some fake video in the past? If you did I would catch it because I am a self taught picture crop and animation artist and I KNOW when a video is fake. Okay? Nice video above

Actually all of us that ride motorcycles are somewhat mentally ill. The more sane logical a human is the more they will decline the averages of mishap

I noticed on my custom my leg rests on the air cleaner too. But on my heritage my leg doesn't.... Both are Softail models. Same years 1999 evo motors. I'm going to change the customs air cleaner because it annoys me

You've been test riding quite a few Harleys of late, are you tempted by the dark side?

Pistolero The Gent Haha! Not yet. I definitely have a better appreciation for them though

Bennie Hitchcock I had a 1200 Nightster that I customised quite heavily but unfortunately I was involved in a collision back in May (not my fault) bike was written off along with the 1 series beemer. I'm interested in a Triumph Tiger 1050 Sport, any chance of doing a review?

Pistolero The Gent Sorry about your accident. At least you wrote off a beemer in the process! I probably won't be riding any new bikes for a while tbh. I hear good things about the Tiger tho. I used to have a 955 Daytona. That triple sounds amazing with a good pipe! You should check out the Multistrada 1200 too if that's the sort of bike you're looking at. It's a fair bit sportier , but it's really comfy ,easy to ride and has 160hp to play with! I lost the footage I had of the multistrada. Shame, probably one of my favourite bikes at the moment.

Don't think I could afford the service costs of a Ducati plus I'll be riding all year round and from the experience of people I used to ride with in the past they don't take kindly to winter, also the Duke is more expensive to buy.

    It's a Softail Standard, - not a Custom

Only issue I have with certain bikes like Harley's is they are bought by people trying to portray a type of lifestyle to other people. Like those Vespa's you see with 130 mirrors on them do people ride them because they enjoy them or because they are a fashion accessory. I ride what ever takes my fancy a CB1300 does everything I need from a bike. But if the only bike I could have was a dt125 that's what I'd have because I like riding bikes. The Harley badge seems to attract that type of guy a lot would never dream of riding anything else not because they are the best bikes in the world but because the cudos that go with the name. Trying to impress others seems to go against the individualism of motorcycling.

james grocott I think I get what you're saying. But From my experience, most Harley riders I've met have ridden and owned a large variety of bikes and have settled on Harley's for what ever reason. In contrast, so many bikers I know will only ride sportbikes and wouldn't dream of owning or riding a Harley because they don't like the image and they think they will look stupid. That sounds like being image conscious to me. For every Harley show off, there are probably just as many wannabe racers on sportbikes who like to show off with all their racing gear. Harley owners are not the only image conscious bike owners by a long shot.I wouldn't buy a Harley because It doesn't suit the type of riding that I do and I can't afford one! Just because Harley's project a certain image, doesn't mean you have to buy into it as an owner. You can just enjoy it for what it is and not give a toss what other people think.

That is true about the sports bikes as well. I didn't buy a Harley because I prefer something a little bit sporty & ended up buying a Buell XB12r Firebolt that was my dream bike it just had so many niggles or character I couldn't live with it.

    • @benniehitchcock
      @benniehitchcock  9 лет назад +2

james grocott Always fancied an xb12r. Interesting bikes. But yeah, when people say a bike has 'character ', that usually means it's a bit of a pig to live with! I need a bike for everyday use, so anything fragile and impractical is out. I ride a VFR. It's a compromise for sure, but it ticks all the boxes for the type of riding I do.

Here is my 2 cents.I ride Harley's simply because I love them. I also own a Honda cb1000 custom of which i've' owned 2 in my life as well as my first ever bike, a BSA Lightning and a couple of other Jap bikes that I bought and sold for a small profit and never missed, but although I like my good old Honda, I find myself gravitating to the Harley most of the time. You just have to ride one to get what I mean. Maybe I don't care why,I just do. Cheers!
