    Okay so there's a huge lie floating around that stops most people before they even start when it comes to producing music. And it pisses me off because it's NOT TRUE. The reality is, whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right. Most people believe they can't, and that's the only reason they don't make music. 99% of people are capable of creating great music, and the only thing stopping them is their belief...or lack thereof.
    Thanks for watching!!
    Cheers

    I downloaded Ableton 10 years ago and bought a DJ controller after leaving EDC feeling inspired. I learned to DJ and make mashups in Ableton pretty easily but felt discouraged when it came to making my own productions. This video inspired me to create this new RUclips account and give music production another go (at 42 years old). Thank you.

    This video is AMAZING, there is barely any of this content being spread and it is so important.
    People live their whole lives not doing what they want to do because they simplely dont believe they can.
    If anyone is still doubting themselves it is really a matter of time if you make sure you are working on your craft everyday, this literally applies to everything you want to do.
    Just do what you do and never give up just take breaks if it gets too much. Try having multiple art forms or interests so when you get burnt out you don't go to bad habits.
    If you love it and do it every day you will make it.
    I am rooting for everyone reading this; we will all make it as long as we give it our all.

    Liked and subscribed! You ARE right! I took up production after tragedy struck in my family. My spouse at the time suggested i tried with the new DAWs floating around, as production wasn’t something as easy to do from top to bottom during my college years, it just wasn’t so “lone wolf” friendly. I set my goals to something I thought felt sky high at the time, which was to somehow have my music be featured on my favorite show, the William Street Swap Shop, streamed on AdultSwim, and by golly, I freakin reached it. But I get a lot of criticism for spending so much time on it, so I’m kind of stuck with what I should aim for next. The adultswim shows that drove me all got canceled when TBS sold to AT&T and that kinda crushed me. I don’t really have any immediate friends doing this type of stuff and so I don’t have a clear picture or set goal or venue for the last stuff I’ve been working on… I’m not looking to go around the world with it… not yet, but still I am looking for a decent creative outlet to cater to / offer my works, and I’m stuck on how and where I’ll find that next endeavour.

    Brian Eno was using the painter analogy way back in 1978 when he started recording his 'ambient' albums - «Music for Airports» being the first (although the «Discreet Music» and «Another Green World» albums also played with this idea prior), and he freely admitted to not knowing what he was doing half the time... and it didn't do his career any harm! 😉 It's a great analogy and breaking down elitist barriers for beginners is totally important! 👍

    I've been making music since 2009, first on a cracked version of FL Studio, then ended up buying it and taking music production seriously. I've released music throughout the years, and although I don't have a huge fan base snd lots of listens. I still keep pressing on all these years. Now dont get me wrong, I've been through many iterations where ive came close to quittong music altogether, especially with juggling school and work. I'm just now getting back into music and DJing as I've been feeling inspired to get back into it, even though my life is even more hectic with work than before. And I probably made the best music I've made in a long time during the height of the pandemic, but have yet to release it.
    Basically what I'm trying to say is, you gotta start somewhere. Work with what you have, and try to stay as consistent as you csn with yhe practice. You may have to take breaks (I took as much as a few years' break at times), but whatever you do, don't quit! If its in your blood and you just don't feel right when you don't create, keep going. Whenever I dont work on music for awhile, I feel out of place like a puzzle piece is missing. Don't let your counterfeit ego get the best of you, listen to your real ego!

    My problem has been, instead of producing music and putting myself out there, I sit online all day looking for tuts, courses, and videos, then I watch them endlessly instead of getting anything done. Also, I have learned various programs already and alot of things involved in music production, such as reading whole 100 page threads on gearslutz, writing down all serban gehnea mixing techniques...... Maybe I need to go watch some dopamine videos or some confidence videos, power of positive thinking.... But I think I'll just waste more time on those too.
    Your channel is set up really nice though, the title got me curious, the video text made me click, the none standard entry and mentioning henry ford kept me watching. All in all it's a very well produced video designed to keep people engaged and sign up to your course. Very professionally done IMO.
    Not sure how good your course is but I admire your success as a youtuber.

    This is why there's one thing more important than anything else: Your mental health. Work on that. Then come back to music. Maybe incorporate making music INTO your work on your mental health if it soothes you, but in general it'd be a good idea to first get your head in the right space, whatever that means to you. Try therapy. Go for walks. Meditate. Try sports. Surround yourself with the people you love. Stuff like that. Great video, thanks a lot Ethan! I'm learning a lot from you. My mental health isn't in the best state ever but I'm trying on getting there. Have a good day.

    I feel like I've got all the info available to me from videos like yours, but I'm having trouble pulling the trigger on something serious. The major problem with I have with theses wishful thinking approaches is that you have to make yourself believe something.
    There is a logical fallacy in that practice because the more you try to convince yourself to believe in something, the more you know internally that you don't believe it yet, because if you did why would you try to believe it in the first place?
    It has to be passive so one can't really initiate it by oneself.
    You can certainly fool yourself for years, but you'll always have some pain that you don't understand its source (because it is willingly denied).
    It will feel forced, and deep down you'll know that you've been lying to yourself.

Look at Avicii he was one of the best on Scene even now he is , but who want Fame like that ? i would say that 80 % of Dj's and popular Artists starting to hate being famous doing shows and stuff , Avicii said "i just want to make music and enjoy life". That's the key, hope everyone of you will enjoy their life as music producer !

    • @CompleteProducer

      I have a music theory section in my course where I discuss that stuff as well as a bunch of midi chord packs so you can just drag progressions into your project, but i think basic music theory and making sure every instrument is in the same key will go a long way. C major is an easy key to start in for piano. Have all the instruments play the same chords as well, unless you're well versed in music theory and want to get fancy. keep it simple at first (:

    Great video, but I'm more interested in the aspect of "producing" in more of the older school Rick Rubin, Bob Ezrin method, taking a band with potential and helping them write/arrange better songs and improve their playing abilities. This style of producing does seem like there is no one path to success. Any thoughts or tips?

    • @CompleteProducer
      @CompleteProducer  3 месяца назад

      i think if you want to go down that route, i would read rick ruben's book, and start trying to produce bands! and if you don't want to record them, find an engineer who's willing to work with you to record those bands for you. i think if you're going to take rick's approach you can't do it alone, so building a team will probably be the most important thing to get started, I would also maybe listen to some of his podcasts and see how he got started! it also doesn't hurt to know some of the technical side and learn how to put a song together in a DAW. hope that helps!

    where "music producers" fail is in paying too much attention at mixing, mastering, sound design, etc....but then they resoundingly fail in being original. That's the key, thats where the attention should be put in. Forget about how good or bad your song sounds. If it is a good song, you will know, people will know. A good example is BX748 with "miss you all", this track is the worst mix I have ever listened to, but it is a good song.
    You could use your imagination, money to produce a quality track, maybe pay for the track to be made in a proper studio if you are not able to produce good quality, but if you are, then just focus on originality.

  • @AntiTrollable
    @AntiTrollable 10 месяцев назад

    First off luck does not exist, it is called probability. Secondly music production is not simple at all. Yea, it may be easy to make something that is extremely simple and sound terrible but to be good at it takes a lot of practice and knowledge. To be good at anything takes time, commitment and consistency, this is the most difficult thing for most human beings to produce.

    • @themanfromvolantis
      @themanfromvolantis 10 месяцев назад +1

      Luck and probability are different things.
      Probability is a calculation of the whether something will happen.
      Luck (Good or bad) is that thing actually happening.
      The probability of being killed by lightning is 1 in 20 million.
      And yet it happens to some people.
      That's bad luck.

Making music is somewhat easy yeah but making music that actually sounds nice or music that you can proudly present to others or listen for your own enjoyment is insanely hard to make. i have seen people produce for10-20 years and their productions still sound somewhat amateur when compared to the stuff you'd hear on the radio. So if you want to go this road you should expect to not like your own music for years, and you should also expect to spend at least 10k on your hobby within a few years. if we are talking about music production you should prepare to become a professional at music theory, sound engineering, sound design and pretty much a master of almost every aspect of music.
    i must have spent 10 thousand hours on my hobby over the years and i know i still wont be at "radio level" after 20 thousand hours. but now i cant stop because i have a strong will. but like i said, if i could go back, i wouldnt do it again. My best advice would be if you are still young (15 years old) pick it up but if you are older like me (23 when i started), just buy yourself a really nice instrument, learn how to play that and you'll be alot happier.

    Well, you're right about that there is no age limit to start making music, but that it's really really easy? I mean you picked up the guitar and bass within the first few minutes, but it didn't take you "just a few minutes" to master or even get good at those instruments right? C'mon man.
    I understand you're trying to encourage ppl here but to say it's a walk in the park? Nah man, that's like lying.

    Honestly, it’s true, and you will make garbage, accept that. Only way not to make garbage, practice, fail, make, repeat and most of all, learn your craft......find your style, be yourself...

      Nah even then you'll still make garbage. Forever. The best artists on earth still make garbage to this day. That's normal though, no one makes hit songs every time, and I don't think anyone ever has. Hell look at The Beatles, they are one of the most popular acts ever, they have a HUGE back catalog of unreleased, unfinished music that'll never see the light of day. Or arguably their biggest rivals the Beach Boys, Dennis Wilson literally has thousands of songs which will never get a release. Michael Jackson, tons of unreleased, unfinished music no one will ever hear. All these giants we think of who write amazing songs make it look easy because no one's showing you the weeks they spent banging their head against a wall before scrapping the song they were working on. But that's normal, everyone does it, and it never stops, best to just accept that some things just won't work out. In life, and in music.

    Power of the mind baby! Science has literally found that the human mind interacts with and changes the foundational levels of reality. All we need to do Is feel what we want, immagine that what you want is already yours. As long as you work toward your goal with this feeling in your heart, you WILL succeed!
