  • It's Friday, so it's time for this week's 'Tea Reads' episode! In this video, I'm joined by my Mum (Donna), and we share our regular Friday routine of a teatime chat about books over tea and a sweet treat. In today's episode, we bake a whisky marmalade pudding cake and share some Burns Night inspired reads.

Hey!!! Miranda and Donna, 👋🏾..,,I was so happy when I saw a new Tea Reads...I’ve never in my life had marmalade but I’ve had plenty of peach preserves and strawberry preserves living in the South in the US and I love them both but now I’m going to try marmalade..That Marmalade Pudding Cake looks delicious.🍰, I wanted you to keep reading Paddington 😂😂😂(THE BEST!!!!) I love Paddington, I have a Paddington bookmark that I purchased from Waterstones and I treat with special care 😂😂 (and it’s just a bookmark)....and the silliest part about my love for Paddington is that I’ve never read the books only seen the movies...watching your videos always sends me on a book buying adventure of books that wouldn’t otherwise be on my radar whether I’m familiar with them or not...Thank You🥰

Hello Miranda and Donna. Thank you for sharing such beautiful Scottish poems and excerpts. My maternal grandmother's family came to the USA from Scotland and I have always been drawn to all things Scottish. The marmalade pudding looks so good. I think my husband may be going out to the store later and I am definitely adding a jar of marmalade to the list. Have a wonderful weekend..... Crystal.

Hi Miranda and Donna I have been catching up with your last two videos while watching it snow this afternoon, such wonderful Dramas I think I will be watching some of these over the next few weeks if the weather stays cold and with nights still being long and dark. When I saw you were making marmalade cake I smiled remembering my father who loved to cook, he used to bake marmalade cake but he called it giggle cake the reason for this was he told me when I was a little girl if I had some it would make me giggle as it had whiskey in it. Still one of my favourite cakes in the winter. Thank you for such wonderful content and books to add to my list Janet 💕

As a Scottish viewer I really appreciate your readings of Burns and the other Scottish stories! Your Dundee marmalade jar is very pretty. Dundee was famous for producing marmalade, not sure if they still have a factory there but the reputation remains.
Love Paddington! Always a favourite. Many thanks again and I hope you are both having a lovely weekend x

Hello Donna and Miranda, I absolutely adored this episode of Tea Reads as I love all things Scottish. The pudding cake looked so tasty and the readings you chose were so enjoyable. Scotland has played such a large part in my life since I first started visiting there as a teenager pony trekking (Montgomery's grandson was in charge of us 'futile females') and I really would urge you both to explore as many parts of it as possible - you have evoked so many memories for me, how do you always seem to do that! I am so looking forward to your Scotland inspired reading choices. Take care both and enjoy your weekend and Burns Night, Teresa ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥮📚 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

Oh my gosh, my paternal grandmother was Scottish and her last name was Reid. She was born in Edinburgh and came to the US when she was only one. My paternal grandfather was also Scottish. I would love to visit there some day. I’m afraid I don’t care much for marmalade either although I would probably like the pudding cake. I also loved the readings tonight that you and your mother shared with us. Have a wonderful week❤️

I love your tartan dress, Donna. My husband and I got married at Gretna Green over the anvil! It was so romantic, our minister was wearing tartan trews, too. We have fond memories of interesting places nearby, like the Samye Ling Buddhist monastery and Tibetan centre. The Lockerbie memorial gardens was also quite a poignant place to visit. I love Alexander McCall Smith's Edinburgh books filled with lots of interesting quirky characters. Must get back to Scotland.

That cake looks scrumptious! Oranges were my favorite fruit when I was young, so I could never quite understand why I didn't (and still don't) like marmalade. Even the sound of it, so much more melodious than jam or jelly. But I do enjoy it in baked goods. "They're not used to having to queue." I laughed at the image that conjures of impatient, flustered birds. Thank you, as always, for the delightful short reads and the time by the fire.

It’s so disappointing not to like it, isn’t it?! I periodically try to make myself enjoy it on toast, but I never quite succeed 😂 Thank you, Pamela, so glad you enjoyed it, and yes those birds looked very bemused today so I’ll have to be mixing their pudding ASAP!! Xxx

Hi Miranda and Donna! Loved your cheerful faces and uplifting video today - yay! Your marmalade cake looked absolutely yummy. I made a batch of fudgy brownies yesterday, but now I want to bake a cake! lol. Were those Persephone napkins you were using? I've been dying to buy myself a set. Maybe I'll buy the napkins and the Lady Rose book at the same time. Loved that passage about Lady Rose's bedroom. So sweet! It really reminded me of the Little White Horse, too! I could read books describing bedrooms, kitchen and food every day of the week - my favorite. Many warm and cozy winter hugs from New Hampshire! xoxoxo :D

Oh Miranda! How can you not love marmalade? It's the only thing I have on toast, jams are too sweet for me. Especially a chunky peel one like the Tawny one by Wilkin & Sons on sourdough toast and a cup of tea is the dream, like eating sunshine. And is that a Keiller Dundee earthenware pot for your daffodils I can spot? Loved this, gx
