The inspired historian Ezra, who lived after the 70 years of Jeremiah’s prophecy were fulfilled, wrote of King Nebuchadnezzar: “He carried into exile to Babylon the remnant, who escaped from the sword, and they became servants to him and his sons until the kingdom of Persia came to power. The land enjoyed its sabbath rests; all the time of its desolation it rested, until the seventy years were completed in fulfillment of the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah.”-2 Chronicles 36:20, 21, NIV. we all agree that the captivity ended in 537 70 years earlier would be 607 regardless of what secular historians claim
@aservantofJEHOVAH7849 I don’t disagree with you here regarding Ezra alone and depending on which 70-year portion you are referring to because there is a desolation that extends from 587-517 too. There are about 20 things that’s associated with this whole theme and you can’t just zoom in on one factor.

First of all you are correct, I spent 10 years researching this subject which included a visit to the musem in London and a long conversation with Carl Olof Jonson on the telephone. This subject is what woke me up after 50 years in WT and caused me to leave in 1999. However there is a much simpler way to prove this topic to a JW they are wrong. If you care to discuss would be happy to share how with you via telephone or zoom call. If interested reply to this comment and we can make arrangements.
The year for the fall of Jerusalem is really a moot point. The reason is because of the following: 1 God never said that the tree of Daniel 4:22 represented His kingdom. 2 God never said to apply the day for a year rule on the seven times. 3 God never said to apply the seven times to what happened in Jerusalem. Additionally the expression 'appointed times of the nation's is not found in Daniel 4.
