They will never forget her - while she can never remember. … But for one moment... one shining moment... she was the most important woman in the whole wide universe." Damn invisible ninjas are cutting unions again.
I'm a new Whovian and just saw this episode for the first time today, I was so sad and moved, the Ood aren't exactly gorgeous but they're so peaceful and innocent and just want to sing. Count on humans to damage creatures like that.
+Jordan Mankelow This is one of Doctor Who's best aspects to make us feel empathy towards characters that are not necessarily human, or even 'beautiful' by our human standards. The Ood have an inner beauty that makes them adorable even though they look completely different on the outside.
The song is sung in Latin: Cum tacent clament. Cum tacent clament. Serva ne, Servan tuter. Sevan servan tuter. {interlude} Dum inter homines sumus colamus humanitatem. Cum tacent clament. Dum inter homines sumus colamus humanitatem. Cum tacent clament. English: With silence, we shout. With silence, we shout. Without salvation, He provides our salvation. He provides us our salvation! As long as we are among humans, let us be humane. With silence, we shout. As long as we are among humans, let us be humane. With silence, we shout.
+DarkSTBAngel tacent is actually a verb which means "to say nothing" but silence is nearly the same so that's ok. And clament means "they shout" not "we shout".
I love the ood. I think they are such an underrated character. They have such a beautiful mind and I know they are not real but who ever created the ood has some serious talent. They are my favourite 'monster'. I always cry when I watch an episode with the ood especially when the doctor is regenerating and they sing to him 😭
"We will sing to you Doctor, all your fans on all the worlds in all of the multitudes of time and space will sing you to your final sleep amongst the stars you hold most dearly in your hearts." Vale Doctor, from the bottom of my hearts! 💕
+A Treg I don't think you've been watching the same Doctor I have. Its like you don't know him. Different face, still him. Still every doctor there ever was. Only you don't recognize him. You can see him in there.
+A Treg If Husbands of River Song didn't make you cry then you are far harder than stone. Peter Capaldi is not David Tennant or Matt Smith but he IS THE DOCTOR. He asks the question "Am I a good man?" Clara can't answer. The Doctor is never cowardly. The Doctor is never cruel. The Doctor never gives up. He ticks all the boxes for me. Whatever the face, whatever the whimsy HE IS STILL THE DOCTOR.
It's not even freezing in here. Yet I've got damn chills from this. It's getting uncomfortable, never happened with so much intensity in my life before. I adore this song and its story. I still see the sadness in Donna's eyes to this day.
I would sit with an Ood all day to hear their songs. I would sit beside them in the snow, holding their hands and staring into their eyes to hear their songs...

Still listening to it in 2021, a month before 2022. Truly a remarkably fantastic soundtrack that Murray Gold put together. I miss the good old days of Ten, Eleven, and Twelve (When Doctor Who was a thing). Hoping it comes back but highly doubting it. Nice to still have the soundtracks to remember it by. Brings that Ood quote to full fruition: "This song is ending, but the story never ends."

No, haha. The Ood are singing in the language of the Ood. But since the language is so very old, the only language that the TARDIS can translate to, is Latin. As it's the closest language to English.
iWhoProductionsHD How? Previously, when there was a language too old for the TARDIS to translate (The Impossible Planet), it simply didn't translate it - which is how it should be, given that if you don't understand a language, then you can't translate it into anything. If the TARDIS could translate the Ood's old language into Latin, then it would be a simple matter for it to translate that Latin into English (as even Google Translate can...) So, how?
According to composer Murray Gold: "Through the translation circuits, the Ood language is rendered into Latin, which is the closest in style and spirit to Classical Ood (as opposed to modern Ood) so that's how we, and Donna, hear the song. In Latin. =)
This song just brings hope Doctor who will rise again capturing the hearts of millions as it did once before and I really hope with all my heart it will do so again

Songs like this, and the meaning behind them, are one of the many, many things that make the First RTD Era the peak of the whole show. I have no doubt in my mind that RTD will bring the show to these heights again now that he is back.
What I find interesting is the whole "Cum tacent, clamant" bit- Those words are also the opening of "The Dark and Endless Dalek Night". It sounds great in both, but vastly different.
BTW: Offical lyrics- The first part of the Ood song is: Cum tacent clament. Serva me, servato te This translates as: "While we are silent, we are screaming. Save me and I will save you." I love this song. Whenever I hear it, no matter how much sad or angry i am, it always gives me hope, joy and comfort. I totally agree, Tennant was my favourite too, he seemed to put more soul into it, almost as if he were really the doctor.
