I was just watching Dan and Phil's gaming-mas video "Lethal Company" and the whole time I was like "I love Dan and Phil and PJ but I've never seen Charlie she seems really cool" so I decided to look in the description and found that YOU ARE YOU! I genuinely had no idea you were back to RUclips or had transitioned so I would've never put two and two together without looking into the description. I watched you A LOT when I was younger and you made me very happy, so it is incredibly lovely to see you back and as yourself this time! As someone who is gender fluid who also found themselves during the pandemic, it is so validating seeing other people (especially people who I look up and have been looking up to since I was younger) having a similar experience. Like I genuinely screamed of joy finding out that you're also trans, representation in any form is the most wonderful feeling. You are doing so much for not only the RUclips community but the trans community as well and I hope you know how much your existence means to other trans people who enjoy your content. I'm glad to hear you found yourself Charlie :) I remember thinking that later into your videos when you were younger that it seemed like you were putting a lot of pressure on yourself and seemed quite anxious at times. You've clearly done a lot of work to become this lovely shiny happy and fulfilled version of yourself. Both in a mental health way and a gender identity way and neither one is easy. You were honestly the only youtuber I ever checked to see if you had updated (and I loved fun science, they were my fave) so after all this time it really is like having a happy update from an old friend. It's nice to be able to meet the beautiful woman that you always were on the inside now on the outside :)

Hey, I have a question regarding how you phrased this, I'm asking out of curiosity and with the will to learn, I absolutely understand if you don't feel like answering. I have often seen people correct others for saying things like "You were a man and now you're a woman", the reason being that "a trans woman was always a woman" and that terms like "male-presenting" would be better. now I saw both of you (being trans yourselves) phrase it in the way that I was told is not okay, so I'm wondering if it's a matter of preference or if it's something that a minority is very vocal about but lots of you don't actually care that much/actually think the phrase is fine? I hope that made sense.
@@airotkiv I'm not trans, but as someone who came out as gay late in life... Both things can be true at the same time: I was always gay in the sense that my attraction was always there but repressed. But I was straight but now gay in the sense that lots of things changed in my identity, my friendships, my relationships, etc... So I use both expressions depending on the context. For example, if someone tells me that I changed from being straight to gay with the implication that I chose to be gay now for clout or because I want attention, then that is rude to me, and I would point out that I was always gay... It is a tricky topic so there are a lot of gray areas around this... Hope this helps :)
@@mooruka as a trans woman I definitely don’t agree. Almost all trans women and men I know say to NEVER refer to them as their past gender or name. I have no idea who the thread OG is okay with terminology like that. Not cool to me at all.
@@airotkiv not OP, but i am trans and know a lot of other trans people, so here's my take on it. i think it's totally fine for a trans person to say "i used to be a woman and now im a man" as it's their life, their decision. refering to other people that way is a bit iffy. I'd say always ask the person's preference before, and then go along with it. if you don't have the ability to ask (ex. you probably won't get a youtuber with millions of subs to answer), I'd say stay on the safe side and use terms like you mentioned or AFAB/AMAB (assigned female/male at birth). I'm not sure if lots of people care about it or not, but from my own experience I'd say 40% don't care and 60% do care (I'm usually in the 40%). hope this helps answer your question and i apologize for the long answer lol always love when people want to learn more :)

Same! My high school was marked by all the old early vlogging-in-bedroom folks and people like Hank and John and WheezyWaiter. It sure is a funny thing. Back then I was like "These feelings are shameful, maybe if I wait long enough they'll go away," but of course, that's not how it works. I'm about eight months into my journey and feeling extremely relieved and excited by normal day-to-day stuff I didn't used to care about. I watched you A LOT when I was younger and you made me very happy, so it is incredibly lovely to see you back and as yourself this time! I'm glad to hear you found yourself Charlie :) I remember thinking that later into your videos when you were younger that it seemed like you were putting a lot of pressure on yourself and seemed quite anxious at times. You've clearly done a lot of work to become this lovely shiny happy and fulfilled version of yourself. Both in a mental health way and a gender identity way and neither one is easy. You were honestly the only youtuber I ever checked to see if you had updated (and I loved fun science, they were my fave) so after all this time it really is like having a happy update from an old friend. It's nice to be able to meet the beautiful woman that you always were on the inside now on the outside :)

Hey, I have a question regarding how you phrased this, I'm asking out of curiosity and with the will to learn, I absolutely understand if you don't feel like answering. I have often seen people correct others for saying things like "You were a man and now you're a woman", the reason being that "a trans woman was always a woman" and that terms like "male-presenting" would be better. now I saw both of you (being trans yourselves) phrase it in the way that I was told is not okay, so I'm wondering if it's a matter of preference or if it's something that a minority is very vocal about but lots of you don't actually care that much/actually think the phrase is fine? I hope that made sense.
@@airotkiv I'm not trans, but as someone who came out as gay late in life... Both things can be true at the same time: I was always gay in the sense that my attraction was always there but repressed. But I was straight but now gay in the sense that lots of things changed in my identity, my friendships, my relationships, etc... So I use both expressions depending on the context. For example, if someone tells me that I changed from being straight to gay with the implication that I chose to be gay now for clout or because I want attention, then that is rude to me, and I would point out that I was always gay... It is a tricky topic so there are a lot of gray areas around this... Hope this helps :)

@@airotkiv not OP, but i am trans and know a lot of other trans people, so here's my take on it. i think it's totally fine for a trans person to say "i used to be a woman and now im a man" as it's their life, their decision. refering to other people that way is a bit iffy. I'd say always ask the person's preference before, and then go along with it. if you don't have the ability to ask (ex. you probably won't get a youtuber with millions of subs to answer), I'd say stay on the safe side and use terms like you mentioned or AFAB/AMAB (assigned female/male at birth). I'm not sure if lots of people care about it or not, but from my own experience I'd say 40% don't care and 60% do care (I'm usually in the 40%). hope this helps answer your question and i apologize for the long answer lol

My high school was marked by all the old early vlogging-in-bedroom folks and people like Hank and John and WheezyWaiter.

The unlisted idea may nice, because I actually don't think I would ever want to watch them, but not gonna lie, since I can't, there is a part of me that wants to. But if they were there somewhere, I wouldn't. I don't know if that makes sense haha
But as you said at the end of the day, it's your boundaries to protect, and not anyones call but yours. And as I've grown up I've learnt they can be very freeing.

The way my brain IMMEDIATELY added the Stephen Fry voice at the end! :'D It REALLY is an almost imponderable joy to see you back and watch you be so happy - you did not need to answer that last question for us to see it. I may be crying a little. I'm turning 31 in 2 months and I've just found my footing again after 7 harrowing years and it is so wonderful to see one of the creators I watched to come out of the tail end of their own struggle.

I'm in a very similar boat (32, & 8yrs on my end - but like yourself these last 6mths have gratefully managed to cut through the weeds) 🌻 - I don't think I've ever seen a comment I so closely resemble...
Just wanted to say, (this is also what I've been trying to tell myself as well), we're now different people than we were prior to that period... & thats ok... Its not good, or bad, it just is ❤ Its ok to say let go & start completely fresh, it doesn't mean failure, it just means the opportunity to create 🌻 & As as Charlie mentioned, there's real joy in that.... As hard as it sometimes feels, try not to feel shame, but instead revel in your strength for making it through the other side....
