I love Jean Jacques Machado. I almost quit jujutsu due to a serious finger injury. About 20 years ago saw a picture of his hand and I realized that it was possible to do jujutsu without relying on grips. Forever thankful. Taught me my most valuable JuJutsu lesson.
The coach/owner at my gym is close friends with Coach Jean-Jacques Machado. They roll almost identically. Not explosive or fast-paced, but smooth, calculated, and concise. It's remarkable to see such high level rolling with some of these masters
is this how their students are taught to roll as well? I live not far from Machado, but i'm torn between his gym and another good one that offers Muay Thai as well. I love Machado's slow and strategic style.
@@matthews4976 I hope you chose to learn from Machado. Probably one of the best teachers in the world. However, anything you are doing is better than nothing, so kudos to you either way.

So cool to watch a master roll!. As a complete newb, to Jiu Jitsu I’m inspired to watch this. And even more cool knowing the impact this master has had in my life indirectly. I believe Jean Jacques gave Joe Rogan his black belt, listening to JRE got me interested in Jiu Jitsu. I got my 2 stripe on my white belt two nights ago and get to go to my first reflex development class tomorrow night! Thank you for creating and sharing this content.
@@The_RUclips_Critic you could be rolling against the best practitioner in the world for the rest of your life and you’ll never be as good as Machado sorry hes a special thing. It would be like picking up a basketball training with the best for your whole life expecting to be good as Michael Jordan…
He seems to be a good purple belt. I got my Blue Belt from your brother Carlos back in 2002. Unfortunately I quit for a number excuses in 2003. Luckily for me started backup in Jan 2020. Now I’m affiliated with Travis Tookie with Team Tookie. Travis and Alvis Solis were my purple belt instructors ranked under Carlos in those days. Still only a mid level blue belt.
I too took a 15 year sabbatical. I started training w/ a group of blue belts and VHS takes in 2000. Rich Franklin was still teaching high school as he trained with us...that long ago. Started back in 2015 and now I'm a middling purple belt due to age and injury. Still progressing though.
amazing. I have questions about 2 parts. 1) around the 4:30 mark, the purple has a kimura grip and tries to pass half, but he is swept from the bottom. can you do a video on that part? 2) he holds onto the kimura grip right after. most people retain control there, but JJ is able to pin that arm and escape the kimura. I really need to know how to do that.
The purple belt had the kimura grip but ends up sitting on the ground. He's not connect to JJ's hips at all. JJ then gets a butterfly hook and hits the sweep. JJ also slowly pushes his arm that's getting kimurad down his body. Also seems like he's making an effort to scrap that hand along his body getting it extremely tight. I've never thought about defend a kimura like this.
JJ basically felt his balance was off and with 2 arms committed to the kimura went for an easy sweep. He then escaped the kimura by making his opponent lose control of the grip by separating his elbow from his body.
makes me realize how much energy I waste trying to use muscle over technique. I use to be a powerlifter and so my first response is use muscle.....turns out I'm just burning myself out on wasted effort.....this guy is like watching art in motion.

He's the reason why I wish I lived in SoCal, to train at his gym. No wasted movements, total efficiency, no forced movements. This is art and science.
Cmon Steve! I thought you had him😂. Thanks for sharing this

Have you received your Blue belt yet?
Woah, i’ve been watching this guy forever and I never noticed his other hand
It is inspiring to watch how effortless, smooth, and controlled you are. I hope to one day reach that level.
You realistically won’t, sorry.

Jean-Jacques is a beast.
you use your head to base and post so much in this roll, definitely something i should try more
Awesome to see Machado flow with his students. Truly amazing

I could watch JJM roll for hours
Please give us more!
Camera guy did a pretty good job
Purple belt has game. He did his thing against a legend.
Man JJM looks and moves like he's on his 20s and 30s wtf, that's when you see the result of not "forcing" jiu jitsu and mostly just rolling flowing
This makes me realize how much I suck at jiu-jitsu 😅
And that's how it's done.
That purple belt did exceedingly well. On the other hand, let's say Jean decided to go hard????....now that's a scary thought!
The horrible thing is he don’t stop moving …slowly …but so securely 👌🏼

Just a flow roll.

When rolling with Jean Jacques everything is calculated… if you’ve ever watched someone “go after” him; it just gets shut down.
