I have to disagree with your position that this charger will not maintain a battery. I tested this charger on a battery I know is bad that I'm trying to recover. I believe the mistake in your testing was that you didn't put the charger in the 2A Maintenance mode. You left it in the "Fast Charge" mode.
My testing showed the battery dropping to 12.37v and then the charger kicked in running the battery back up to 13.44v. Since I believe there is a bad cell, I'm expecting to see this cycle up and down for quite some time. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like after letting this run for the next couple weeks.

stvmoe75 thank you for the input. When I get a chance I'll have to try putting it in the 2 amp charging mode and try it again.

After playing with this charger for a week now, I'm going to side with your conclusion that this unit is best left to be used only for charging and not for maintaining a battery. I've been comparing this unit against my CTEK US7002. The CTEK will run the voltage up to 13.52 vdc for a short time then shutdown. When the battery drops down to 13.19vdc it will kick back in taking the voltage back up to 13.52vdc and the cycle continues. With the XC6, the voltage just stayed at 12.71vdc with no attempt by the charger to cycle charge the battery.
While this low cost charger can hardly compare to the likes of a CTEK, it does give the ability to charge a battery at a low current level without risk of overcharging. I'll use it when ever I need a charger to sit on a battery for a day. I've ordered (3) Viking 4A Smart Chargers that Harbor Freight has on sale for $22.95. There are a number of good reviews on this unit and if it tests out like I hope, I'll give 2 of them to my kids - otherwise I'll take them back.

How do you know if the battery is fully charged? Will it just shut off? Or will a green light come on or what?

I have one from my father. It charged my deep cycle battery fine two times. Now I can't even get it to turn on when I'm trying to charge the battery. Any idea on how to fix it? I followed the suggestions in the manual and it won't turn on. No lights, nothing.

Hi there i have this same exact model of the schumacher charger..I'm always curious how many watts does the charger take when you set it at 6amp?
Thanks in advance for the answer.

Video won't play. Tried 6 times now and always stops and tries to refresh. I watched several other videos in between and they all run fine. Going to try again on a different device and network. Might want to contact RUclips to find out why.

Intrade Motor that's what I started doing too. I just use a power supply to charge them. It's a lot easier to make sure that they actually have a full charge.

The rapid charge is a joke and waste of time only use the lowest setting to get the most out of this model.
