Mike!!! Wow!!! Video production, cuts, sound quality and quality of your video is amazing... props!!! Project is equally amazing. You and Jonny had great chemistry. Thanks for the video.
I had a super fun time working on this awesome project. I love the way those legs turned out, and I am really impressed with your use of available parts to make the jig. Well done!
Hey Mike! I must have been learning how to make hairpin legs the same time you were! If you're interested in a super clean look as far as welding the legs to the plates, I found it worth the time drilling holes through the plate big enough for the legs, with a bevel on the topside. I left an extra inch on each tip of the leg and fed them through the holes until they all lined up. Welding the bevel on the top side made them incredibly strong, then I was able to cut off and grind down the excess on the side that would be hidden against the wood. This was great for me because I don't have the technique down for a pretty weld but I know my way around an angle grinder.
Great project guys! I really like the custom legs. It completely changes the table to something that was actually hand made start to finish and you can tell just by looking at it. Really nice 👍🏼
Really cool video. I made a set myself a few weeks ago using an oxy-acetylene torch to heat the round stock for bending. My jig was very similar to yours. I did make my top plates of of 2 pieces of flat plate that I tig welded into right angles. The biggest difference on mine is that I drilled through holes in the plate and pushed the legs through so I could weld both sides of the legs and then ground down the welds on top. They turned out really well.
Absolutely hilarious at 5:17! Man, I really like the look of those legs at 15 degrees. Something so small can have such a huge impact. I think this is one of your best videos, Mike!
Neat video. I may have to try this as I love DIY. I was just searching hairpin legs on amazon and found some that would work great. They are 16" and support up to 250 pounds for less than $20 a set of 4. They had 5 stars too which also made me feel better. - Heidi
This might be my favorite video of yours. Plus, you're in my city (S/O from AVL!). Seriously some awesome work and I hope to get into some basic welding soon. Hope you enjoyed some great beer while you were here!
The ghost scene...oh wow lol. So good. Shspeways is great. I get my protectors that come in a bunch of colors from another company. As others have suggested, they clip on and are a bit more pliable. If you pick up the table, the protector stays connected.
Modern Builds i believe they are from The Hairpin Leg Co, usually get them on amazon for about 10 to 12$. Hope it was alright to mention them, thought sbout that after i sent the comment. I like that yours offer a differnt look, and i think Shapeways can print in different colors too. Could even hit em with that paint if someone wanted them to match
Can you add a finder washers to the bottom of the legs the holes in the washers could be useful for tack welding and put smaller round felt pads on them?
Using Plasti-dip (the original tool dipping kind not the sprayable version) would be a good solution to get the color at the ends while also making it less likely to damage hardwood floors.
Love the 3D printed protectors - maybe add a 'nub' to the opening so they 'click' onto base of the leg? But I'd buy them - if my wife would ever let me put hairpin legs on something ;P
Great collab Mike and Johnny! Table and legs look awesome! Was gonna say u should seek those on ur site.. I need to learn sketch up..and my editing software so I can get back into making vids..I miss it😕
Hey I’m trying to build a vanity with a mirror and lights around the mirror for my next door neighbor’s daughter. I’m having a lot of problems and I was wondering if you have build one already if so can you give me a link to it, but if not can you build one so I can see how it’s done. Thanks, Tim.
Glad Johnny came in to help you on that last weld...was a disaster up until that point! Where did you get the music for this vid btw - it sounds different than what you usually use but works super well!
Great video but can I make a small suggestion? I fully understand being sponsored and I'm not upset that you are at all, in fact good job on getting sponsored. But what about doing them like Bob does at I Like to Make Stuff, when he does an add he does a little window in the corner and still shows progress of the build going on. Generally with monotonous things like assembly. It doesn't kill the flow of the build and if we couldn't care less about the ad it gives us something to watch and not causing us to lose interest in the build. Just my 2 cents, you don't have to do it lol. But again good build, keep up the good work
Cant you buy a rub like tape for the legs so it won't scratch the floor? Anywhere good idea to design something and have 3d printed somewhere else and delivered to you the end result
For some reason my desk is not stable using hairpin legs. The legs are screwed in tight but there seems to be no support. The table is 36 inches long and it a slab of maple wood.
Those bars look like cold rolled steel which does not have mill scale. Mill scale is an iron oxide layer that forms when hot rolling metal. It can not be removed with mineral spirits. I wish it could be tho.
How romantic! Great video, going to watch this a few times, I just have to make some hairpin legs. P.S. my husband owns a fabrication shop. I love the protectors, silicone paint might work too, what do you think?
There are inherent problems with hairpin legs that I see nobody ever mention or even try to fix. The first problem is the angle. No matter who you buy them from, they are a set angle. That's bad because to make them fit a table you must move the mounting point in or out so that the base of the leg does not stick out past the corner and look like a baby deer. Or too far inset and look funny as well. So the solution there is a different angle for each height. Now, I actually mean any height has it's own angle. Not just a set for coffee tables or a set for desks. I mean any height in between at one inch incriments. That would mean the taller a table got the straighter the legs and the shorter a table got the more angled out. But then you need the mounting location to be the same for all legs. By that I mean you have for example a 40x20 table top. You drill the holes for the legs. You mount someones cheap China made desk legs and it looks great. But now mount some coffee table legs in the same holes and it doesn't work. So again, a different angle for each height. Once you do that you have the ability to make the perfect angle for any height. Plus the person mounting the legs can put them in the same location every time. If you are selling tables this comes in real handy because you can pre drill holes from a jig and the legs will fit no matter the height. The legs hit the floor at the corner no matter what height and all with the same hole locations. You cannot do that with any legs on any video here on RUclips. You can't do that with any Amazon legs, any legs from China. That's just a plain and simple fact. Second issue is the mount. Why the F does everyone use that big L shaped mount shape? Sheep that's why. Monkey see monkey do. Everyone else does it so it must be good.... smh. No that's the worst shape ever. TYhink about how hard it is to wrap up a set of those and ship them. Now you may be thinking like I think. The shape needs to be shipping friendly. The angle needs to be friendly for use on any top with the same holes. I am not sure why nobody has ever thought of this besides me.
Why not split clear rubbrt tube into a diy split loom that could be used with the hairpin legs. It could keep your floors scratch free, and would allow your table to not slide around.
You don't have to split it, just get tubing with the same inside size as the diameter of the leg. Slide it on before welding, slide it up to paint the bottom of the leg then slide it down to the bottom after paint dries. Just a thought.
Modern Builds I might have missed it but how much did it cost to make these? I keeping wanting to start making them instead of ordering. Another great video, might be my favourite. Thanks!!

I will probably never make 90% of what you show on your channel, but I love your energy and cheerful disposition.
The ghost scene was pretty good! Lol
Super fun hanging with you in the shop dude! You can tell we're so beat during that intro/outro, hah. Hope we can do it again next year!
Oh Yeah! Annual Collab!!

Thanks David! I appreciate it dude!
Wow, Johnny's got some good stuff lying around his shop... awesome job!
Haha! I know I definitely got a little shop envy while I was down there
Yeah, North Carolina! Really love this! I loved the white accent on the legs. Good job! Also that bit was hilarious.
I had a super fun time working on this awesome project. I love the way those legs turned out, and I am really impressed with your use of available parts to make the jig. Well done!
Thanks a lot Cressel! Thanks for the experience man, Pouring that aluminum was a TON of fun
This video rocks! I never thought to build my own hair pins, but you make it seem so easy. That coffee table, tho....wow!
Sweet!

My heart is aching the way you treated the 15/16 socket.
Haha!! It barely got scratched... surprisingly. Should've got an old crappy one from a garage sale or pawn shop
7:56 A leg is flying, nice job man.
Fun build and great to see how easy they are to bend.
No doubt, thanks Patrick!
Fantastic job guys, loved it. Looks like fun. Great meeting both of you at WBC. See you again next year, Eric
You too Dave! No doubt
Absolutely hilarious at 5:17! Man, I really like the look of those legs at 15 degrees. Something so small can have such a huge impact. I think this is one of your best videos, Mike!
No doubt! It’s the small things sometimes. Thanks Bruce
Crushed it ! good stuff dude
Dude... this might be your best video yet.
Hell yeah! Thanks man!
quick question, how much did you save in material costs doing it your self?
Neat video. I may have to try this as I love DIY. I was just searching hairpin legs on amazon and found some that would work great. They are 16" and support up to 250 pounds for less than $20 a set of 4. They had 5 stars too which also made me feel better. - Heidi
I definitely want to make a table with hairpin legs some day. This is definitely an awesome idea!
Right on! Thanks dude
I’m actually shopping for supplies for nesting tables now. This is great
Well done brother!
Very good job and easy process to follow. Thanks for sharing.

Love the idea, need to get out of my comfort zone and try out welding
Go for it dude! It's surprisingly easy!
You look great in those glasses, dude!
Nice video and awesome idea for the floor protectors!
Yes, it couldn't be simpler, I also believe that every American family has a welder.
This might be my favorite video of yours. Plus, you're in my city (S/O from AVL!). Seriously some awesome work and I hope to get into some basic welding soon. Hope you enjoyed some great beer while you were here!
Fantastic colab ya’ll!
Great and informative video...thank you!
THIS is the video I was expecting!!!!!

Right on! I’ll have to check em out. What’s the brand?

Love your glasses!
I love Ashevegas! Keep up the good work.
No Ghosting! Aaaand subscribed.
Haha!!
That Ghost moment! 😂
Btw, awesome that it can be done w/o heating! 👍🏼
Haha!!
Can you add a finder washers to the bottom of the legs the holes in the washers could be useful for tack welding and put smaller round felt pads on them?
Your videos are so informative and funny! Love this
Great job love your videos
Thanks, very informative video. What angle should the leg have?
Man, I love hairpin legs. Seems like a cool way to make your own. Also: nice glasses!
They’re the best! Thanks!!
hue hue hue - Filled in the rods
I love the Ghost reference XD
Using Plasti-dip (the original tool dipping kind not the sprayable version) would be a good solution to get the color at the ends while also making it less likely to damage hardwood floors.
looks great!!! great collaboration
Thank you, I'll do it
Bring the edge of the plastic up more and it can clip on
Love the 3D printed protectors - maybe add a 'nub' to the opening so they 'click' onto base of the leg? But I'd buy them - if my wife would ever let me put hairpin legs on something ;P
Haha! Neat idea for sure
Great collab Mike and Johnny! Table and legs look awesome! Was gonna say u should seek those on ur site..
I need to learn sketch up..and my editing software so I can get back into making vids..I miss it😕
For sure dude! Check my last video if you want to learn sketchup!
Modern Builds Awesome! Definitely will.. Missed it last week had the flu really bad🤢 but better now..

You finally did it!
Glad Johnny came in to help you on that last weld...was a disaster up until that point! Where did you get the music for this vid btw - it sounds different than what you usually use but works super well!
Mikey, that is beautiful.
Also Mikey, my welds definitely weren’t pretty. 🤣
Five stars on that edit decision lol
Subscribed for the Ghost 😁
What did you do to make the jig for cutting the legs to length
Fun video. I think your legs look awesome! ;)
Easy haha 😂😂
I was number 300 woohoo... nice work
@5:23 you simply can't unsee THAT!!!!!!🙈🙈🙈🙈

Nicely done Mike! 👍👊

It’s a cool idea. Definitely something to consider. Thanks man!
Modern Builds you’re welcome! Like I said just a suggestion, no hurt feelings if you choose to ignore it
I was literally thinking about how I'd make these yesterday
Perfect timing!
I have been looking for these!! Do you make and sell? Would love to buy!! Thanks
trying to think of ways to hang some snowboards flat on my ceiling that can be removed in my bedroom, any ideas?
Cant you buy a rub like tape for the legs so it won't scratch the floor? Anywhere good idea to design something and have 3d printed somewhere else and delivered to you the end result
Is there a reason you didn't spray clear coat on the bare steel? I'm sure the wax is good enough, but the clear coat is more permanent.
Great Video. But can you direct me to the site where I can download and print the base template please? Thank you.
shapeways is a very cool site to use.
What do you think about rubber dipping the base of your hair pin legs to protect the flooring?
Always use rubber and practice safe leg rubbing
Hey Mike, a top video! Greetings MrHandwerk :)
Is this cheaper to make them buy.. I’m all about making it myself and being more custom
For some reason my desk is not stable using hairpin legs. The legs are screwed in tight but there seems to be no support. The table is 36 inches long and it a slab of maple wood.
You gUys ae hilarious! Cool video as always.... ;)
love the glasses!!
I know this wasn't the point of the video but would you be able to but a set of legs then trimming them on an angle?
Omg! You’re located in Asheville? I live in Asheville!! Where can I locally purchase your work?
I'm not from Asheville, But Johnny is!
Yamilet Rivera at my house...of perverts 😂
😂 that edit
Whats the name of the tool to measure degree

Never clicked so fast lol
Could you achieve the same out come with 120v flux core?
It'd be tough... maybe with Epoxy or JB Weld, but no gaurantees
Very easy ;-)
I might have missed it in the video but what was the cost of making these legs?
materials were about $15 for all 4
Really nice vid! But where you have de x I made a cut in a v shape...it's more easy.
No entendí lo que explicaban ,,pero muy buena patas
Bromance level ghost
3:46 Were you on the set of SAW movie?😱
How romantic! Great video, going to watch this a few times, I just have to make some hairpin legs. P.S. my husband owns a fabrication shop. I love the protectors, silicone paint might work too, what do you think?
Right on! Yeah something like plasidip could be a cool option
nice legs. what about trying plastidip next time? can be any collour u want and its a rubber finnish. i guess it will not scratch the floor

I’ve always wanted to try to make my own hairpin legs but never had the guts...I guess I don’t have an excuse now!
Haha! I guess not
Muito bom... kkkkk
isnt it like extremely cheap to make them like that too like 5 dollars per leg or smtn like that
Awesome thanks man, but parts of it was disturbing 😂
You make good vids but dude .. ugh I’ll admit the spam gets annoying. I understand tho and I appreciate the time you guys take to make these vids
Where do I find boyfriends like you guys!?! I wish I had a bf into making tables and stuff with me!!!!
