    I was born in Mobile AKA the port city, lived in Birmingham, and now Huntsville. This city should be proud it's totally opposite from the other major cities in the state. One year the city hit 19 homicides which was a record and it was the biggest talk in the news. You can come here and get an education, land a high paying job, raise a wholesome family, or start a business. Not much in the way of nightlife but you won't have to worry about being carjacked, robbed, or murdered nearly as much as the next big city. I'm running out of fingers and toes to count the soldiers I knew that didn't make it back home. Once again be proud Huntsville 👏

      I'm from Cincinnati, moved to Huntsville a few years back and landed a job at the Huntsville Times. Got off early one night on a saturday and began walking toward University Drive. On my mission, I had to walk through the projects off Clinton St ... I said to myself "I know these ningaz gonna jump me, fuck it, I'm too tired to walk around". I walked through them projects at like 12:30 AM ... and they paid me no attention whatsoever. If I tried to walk through any of the projects in Cincinnati at that time of night I would have been lucky if I only had gotten robbed or jumped. I moved back home, it's too slow down there ... but there's hella money down there ... and snitching and gossipping is normal to them.

    I never liked the word "hood". It has negative connotations , a suggestion that there is some kind of social problem in the area. Here in Ireland we call them "housing estates" and they are largely very respectable ! Also, I have seen references made in the USA to "Social Housing Experiments" !!!!!! With a title like that it's no surprise you get a lot of rats ! These estates in Alabama look very nice, meticulously maintained, quiet and orderly !

I love the fact that they rebuilt the swimming pool off of Drake near the boys and girls scouts building...growning up I use to go there all the time and swim...if you get a chance go visit the place it's a indoor pool and the ceiling opens up on the prettiest days...The Rocket City people have other names for Huntsville but ...I like Rocket City better because of the Space and Rocket Center...such beauty...❤....sometimes situations should be put to rest years later...I see it though smh...welp...🤷‍♀️

    Born and raised in Huntsville. The hood is definitely here in Huntsville, but it could be much, much worse. Sadly, a lot of public housing has been torn down in recent years, which sucks because people are getting vouchers from the city government to live in housing FAR away from the places they work. The Black community has been done wrong throughout the city with segregation and racist zoning in the past, but because the cost of living has historically been cheaper in HSV, many Black families that were in the hood from the 1960s-1990s have been able to get property and out of the hood. I will also mention that A LOT of white folks in the surrounding rural areas, whether in Huntsville or outside of it, are not doing well although they don't live in the "hood" - the opioid "crisis" is kicking their asses.

      Nikia O'Hearn I lived in Southern California for a few and can attest to the fact that the hood out there is much worse shape than in Huntsville, which is still sad. My family still lives in Huntsville and consistently get emails, text messages, and mailers asking if they want to sell their home. It’s not happening. With the FBI coming to Huntsville, property values will skyrocket in a few years. Now is the absolute worst time for anyone in North Huntsville to sell, as it will be prime real estate. I lived in Harvest for a couple of years of growing up and it’s all right, just even more boring than the city is. Madison is cool as well.

    I live in Huntsville. I don't think you quite understand what a "hood" is. Just because a neighborhood is predominantly black that doesn't make it bad.

    • @CharlieBo313
      @CharlieBo313  3 года назад +1

      And you're racist, because you assume I think that an area that's black makes it a hood. A hood usually means one of the older, poorer, sometimes crowded, more ran down parts of town. A hood is relative to the city your in. What is considered hood in one city might be a nice neighborhood in another.

      CharlieBo313 seriously, a real ‘hood is a place like some of the old suburbs of Detroit. Street after street of sad abandoned houses. Places where love and warmth once nurtured families are now temporarily home to the hopeless street denizen. Places where crime is literally the only economic engine. Places where you wouldn’t walk down the street in broad saylight.. Those are real ‘hoods. Not just an older, economically depressed area.

    I was born and raised in Houston, Texas but lived in Huntsville, Alabama from 2000 to 2003 elementary school years. I went back to my hometown leaving Alabama... but then in 2017 I drove from Houston to Downtown Atlanta to attend a furry con @ Marriott Marquis. Once that was over with, I decided to take the long way back home to Houston by driving through Huntsville. It was the first time I've been there in 15 years and NOTHING changed! Everything was still the same, except my former apartments looked way worse and rundown - and they added some new buildings to the school I went to. I was sad to see my neighborhood went downhill but it was interesting seeing my old childhood city that I had so many fond memories of.
