As someone who's watched basically every Michigan game from start to finish over the past 3 years, this stint has been such a fun offense to watch even if a lot of the concepts are considered old school or outdated. Harbaugh and Sherrone Moore brought so many unique and refreshing updates to these classic concepts that simply put, defenses couldn't handle.

I agree, the line of scrimmage was won by Michigan. I don't think football games should be boiled down to just one play but when you watch the last play of the game, the U of M defensive line pushes back every single lineman they matched up against. That poor QB didn't have much to work with. The big boys were a major factor.

Harbaugh did what I expected him to do 5 years ago. He previously did at Stanford (and with the 49ers), he opened up the 1980s Michigan playbook. No one sees the I formation, lead back blocking or quick hit runs anymore because as this video's coach said, everybody runs the spread. 🤣🤣🤣
Everybody is a clone, so anything different is mind boggling to them.
    Go Blue!!!

    • @lee399
      @lee399 5 месяцев назад +3

Great breakdown and analysis! He may go. I'm not sure what else he has to do or motivate him at Michigan. Cabinet will be a little bare next year too. That was a senior laden team. He'll be a hot commodity in the NFL, but it will depend on the situation he goes to, and what type of team they build for him. The modern player is typically more self-centered/stat centered and less team oriented. He'd succeed in a pass happy division because that old school is more effective when it's the lesser used style.

@@lee399 Michigan has 8 seniors, it is not an old team, the defense returns probably 8 starters and they played something like 22 guys on that side a game, I think defense will be better. If jj comes back they are a top 3 team until proven otherwise, I would put them with Georgia and Texas.

Coach Harbaugh is staying in Ann Arbor for his family, and to run the football dynasty he has built at his alma mater.
He has Buckeyes crying and confused, and they know it in Columbus. That alone brings a great joy and satisfaction that only fellow Wolverines might understand.
And maybe to thumb his nose at the NCAA and other haters a little bit, because he’s human and no one likes being labeled ‘weird’ and ‘incapable.’

Alabama had two problems on their hands on that play with Edwards throwing back to McCarthy. He is also a threat to sling that ball down the field and has done it before.
As soon as he pulled up, they had some quick decisions to make and after he threw back to McCarthy a guy that’s a serious run threat, has the ball in his hands again.
I understand that Alabama defender moving back up toward McCarthy because at that point I’m sure he thought it was a designed run.

Big Michigan fan here, but I disagree. As far as I’m concerned he took a top QB & turned him into just a game manager with the result being a lot closer games than they should have been. Here’s my point until the Penn State game JJ was a legitimate Heisman candidate. He would get out their & sling the ball dead on with confidence. After that second half of the Penn State game , the Michigan coaches turned this Contest into a close game . From there on out they just changed him into a game manager instead of a great QB that he was !

@@tedszweb5268one thing that you are missing (and this has been confirmed by JJ, Sherrone and Harbaugh) is that JJ was injured for much of that time. They couldn’t rely on his deep throwing game, so they had to improvise. Also, they wanted to hide his injury so that they could open up the running game. You should listen to a couple of their interviews from around the rose bowl.

    • @HyzersGR

@@tedszweb5268 JJ wouldn't have been able to finish the game if they kept trying to throw the ball on PSU. Yeah he was 7/8 but he got sacked once or twice and was limping by the third series. Barnhart moving inside after Zinter went down worked out for the best because he was dicey at pass blocking out there on the edge. PSU's DEs were teeing off on him and being in a deafening Beaver Stadium made it even worse.

The way to defend that jet sweep is to bring a safety in closer to the LOS (if you don't have a very mobile LB) to spy the WR like you would with a QB who can beat you with his legs.

Michigan did need trickery to win. They were superior in almost every way. ESPECIALLY their defense.

Tennessee Vol fan's view here :
A./ Harbaugh runs a great program, and I don't believe a guy of his character would have working knowledge of any type cheating.
B./ UM is a class academic as well as athletic University. ( I lived in Royal Oak, Mi. and knew families with UM kids)
C./ I'm not convinced the "excessive" video could be put to good use. How the he** do you see a signal and then relay it fast enough for your side to make the proper line-up ? You would need real-time video helmets ( which we really don't have yet).
    > Alabama was inconsistent this year on both sides of the ball, and Georgia picked a terrible time to play their worst game.
    > Michigan was more consistent, even missing Harbaugh they played great.
    > Michigan strength, depth, and better team leadership ( JJ and Blake are studs !! ) outplayed Washington.

There is a Little Giants chance for a D2 win. Like the first second and third team getting covid at the same time. They might have a chance then. Or Michigan just does not take them serious, when the D2 is actually a serious team. Most important is they have a very good line. You don't run unless they are. That's the measure.
