Wow the trains had 4 cars back then, very interesting. I never knew the red line went to Greenbelt and I love that buzzing sound that the trains made. This was taken 6 years before I was born and I lived in New Jersey for all 18 years of my existence and never been to DC, but because I watch so many DC metro videos, I know the WMATA quite well... or so I thought I did. Great video.
red line did not go to greenbelt, green line had a what they called a commenter shortcut because of the split sections on the green line. they were to connect the different segments while stations in between u street and fort rotten were being built in the 90s.
At the time there were no countdown clocks so it was a surprise when the lights blinked. Also the only payment was by paper farecard and there were bus transfer dispensers. During off peak many trains were only 4 cars, none more than 6
Yea, Metro started adding the PID Boards in 2000. Before that, Station Managers would make announcements about the next train bound to arrive. I miss this era
I see the Red Line was still running to Greenbelt then. Did they have to skip Fort Totten? Because I notice there is practically no way to get to it from the Red Line ROW.
I think there is a track that connects the Red Line to the Green/Yellow Line outside of Fort Totten (coming from Brookland-CUA) so the trains must have bypassed Fort Totten to changeover to the other tracks. Now nearly 24 years later, they of course don't do that and go to Glenmont instead
@@metronova94 Red Line trains operated between Greenbelt and Farragut North between the start of service and 9:00 am, and between 4:00 pm and 7:45 pm, on Monday to Friday. Weekend service on the connector was limited to special events.
The buzzing sound they made; they still had them by the time I was a kid so I'm familiar with these. I miss em.
Cicada buzzing
That’s was the best era. Sounds of my childhood. The whine... the bing bong... so good.

Some of the Breda 4000 series cars hadn’t been converted to second generation chime, yet
@Chao Hwa Chen do you have any videos of a R42 M train from bay parkway to metropolitan Ave
Jeremy Amodeo I don’t have it. Sorry about that.
@Chao hwa chen that's ok what about a southbound R40 slant Q train from QUEENSBRIDGE to Brighton beach
@@jeremyamodeo852 he might bot have that because he recorded a full trip to 21st already
Jeremy Amodeo I have to check. I do have a southbound R40 Q train video from Roosevelt Island, but I forget the south end.
Chao-Hwa Chen I understand I'm just curious because I sadly wasn't born in those times
Then it got placed in the middle.
WHY DOES THERE HAVE TO BE A SHORTCUT FOR GREEN LINE LOL 1:28
